Satellite C50D-- Changed mode of function keys - can't change it back

I have a Toshiba Satellite C50D-A, with Windows 8.1 who bought earlier this year.

Recently, my function keys mode changed somehow and I can't seem to restore. When I bought the computer that the Fn button should NOT be pressed to use the special function keys (brightness, volume, etc.), however, now I have to press the Fn button to use all the special functions and since I have yet to use the F1 - F12 keys on a regular basis, it is quite unrealistic and all simply boring.

I've already stepped into the Toshiba system settings set the keyboard special purpose and gone back and forth between the two functions several times still nothing helps.

I return all system settings by default (as special function keys were my fault) and that didn't work either.

I'm sorry is very long, but I'm at my home and I would like to solve this problem as soon as possible.

Thank you in advance for all replies :)

> now, I have to press the Fn button to use all the special functions

This means that the special function mode is disabled.
You can enable it in the BIOS or in the Toshiba System (HWSetup) settings

To access the BIOS, you will need to press F2 when starting the unit.

  • Satellite C70D - A - 11 d function key turn off after use

    Hi all

I have a Satellite C70D-A - 11 d... When I use once key FN to do a print screen or use the Zoom screen on the space key...

I am not able to use the 1 to 4 Keynumbers or space to enter a space between two words... it always changes between the larger screen solution or the normal solution...

I can only change the FN key after changing the settings in the settings of display and after a reboot...
So I can't use FN without a reset with the F1 to the use of the F12 key and a reboot...

Normally the FN key works only if it is pressed... If this is the normal operation of the keys 1 to 4 or F1 to F12 will work if configured in the settings, or not?

    What should do?

    Kind regards
    Jürgen

First of all, you can change between the special function key mode (without pressing the FN key) or normal (standard) mode (Fn hold first of all use the standard functions of F1 - F12).

This function can be changed in the BIOS.
In BIOS go to Advanced-> system configuration

    Check this option.

  • Satellite A135-S4527 - drivers needed & function keys do not work

    Hello

I have a Satellite A135-S4527. But when I got this computer it was without a recovery disk / disk to reinstall Vista and the Vista operating system that was installed was a bloated mess - it has been widely used by a person of lesser intelligence. In any case, I decided to get out the hard drive and put it in my SSD with Windows XP Professional SP3.

That's when the problems started to flow. It turns out that Toshiba doesn't support Windows XP operating system - I checked the site and was surprised to see a total lack of support for Windows XP (even though Windows XP is the dominant OS and a fortiori when this laptop has been done).

I managed to get the drivers installed, for everything except the modem. Easier to find drivers were Intel for Chipset / Motherboard and graphic processing of legacy unit. The thing is, I don't know if these are the official drivers and I'm completely lost on the drivers for the modem. Any idea where I can gain more - late and the biggest drivers of all my components?

    There are also some problems,
    -Brightness function keys do nothing
-Laptop computer sometimes comes out no mode 'sleep'

What can I do on the brightness keys? The monitor is sometimes a bit too bright to be comfortable to use. Yet, I'll have a chance to make those keys actually do something.

    Any help appreciated.

    Hello

To my knowledge, this must be a series of Toshiba laptops we.
Therefore, I visited the Toshiba driver page us to check the availability of driver.
And guess what? I found this, but unfortunately there is not a lot of drivers Win XP.

There are Vista and Win 7 but not Win XP drivers.
I guess that's all that's available for Win XP.
    So what to do?

I think you should try to install the missing tools which are released for other series of laptop; for example, A105-Sxxxxxx
Maybe you will get the driver works

Let's hope. Otherwise, you will need to use the laptop without these functions

  • Satellite P870-335 - no visible function key actions

    Hello

I have a 335 P870 in which I placed a SSD drive and installed Windows 8 Pro (now 8.1) and was able to get most of the devices working with the drivers I found by the program of automatic detection of Toshiba.

However, one of the items still missing is that I can't see/control functions that are on the function keys (like installing without wireless/Bluetooth). I know from my previous laptop Toshiba that, at the time when I press the button Fn, I see an OSD that show me the options and condition of their.

I can't find which software I need to install in order to restore this feature. Someone got a hint/link for me?
Assume that this software is also available for Windows 8 (.1) Pro?

    Thanks in advance, Herbiek.

Created for Win7 Toshiba Toshiba Value added Package. This package includes several tools and utilities and one of them was important for the feature keys FN + Fx.
Toshiba uses now two other tools:
Driver of Toshiba and Toshiba function Key Utility system.

I ve checked the Toshiba download page - http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp
    You can find them here.

    Check it out please.

  • Satellite P100 PSPA3A - Touchpad and function keys not working not

    Hello
I'm new to the forum so please excuse my lack of computer skills.

Where my problems began, is that I deleted the driver of my computer keyboard.
I reinstalled and now works with the exception of the function keys.

I tried to install Hotkeys out of the Toshiba web site without success. It will not be loaded on the computer for me.
I also reinstalled "utilities" and in doing so the touch pad mouse has stopped working.

Is someone able to offer, for me, what should I do to fix this?

Thank you very much in advance for your help.
    Sam

I never heard of a keyboard driver deleting, but if some of your buttons work so I think the software is very good. It may be a loose keyboard connector is loose, which is located under your keyboard around the buttons 'Fred '.

I return the phone to the place of purchase and get them to fix it. Less pain for you and an easy solution. Keep it simple, everyone!

    Good luck.

  • Satellite A660 - 1 H 7 function keys and Logo lights went out

It may seem a little ridiculous to the experience of users of Toshiba laptops, BUT I have my laptop recently and there are a few days, I've lost the lights on my (next to the power switch) function buttons and the 'objective' logo in the lower left corner.

I don't know if I've done something to turn them off?
Unfortunately I don't know how to get the lights back on.

Can someone please help and tell me how (step by step if poss) to get back them.

    Thank you in advance.

    > I don't know if I've done something to turn them off?
    > Unfortunately I don't know how to get the lights back on.

As far as I know this feature is controlled by Backlight.exe and you can find it in
    Program Files\Toshiba\TBS\Backlight.exe

It is usually part of the VAP (value added package) to reinstall this package should help you get it working again.

You can also assign this file exe button again with the Support of TOSHIBA Button tool

    Someone wrote in the forum:
+ When I go into "TOSHIBA button Support", I only have empty fields with the choice in the background to set "TOSHIBA Assist" or "Presentation". Empty fields are 'Description', 'Option' and 'path of the target. There is a button 'Browse' to select a program manually, but I have no idea where the exe "backlight on / off" is, when one exists. +

    Hello

You must disable the special key mode

How to change the Mode of function keys

Usually you can do in the BIOS, as well as in the utility of HWSETUP

Dell Dimension 1400, model XP SK8110 keyboard.   Yes, I know there are 7 years old, but running like a champ.

    Hello

You can use various function keys to activate certain features and commands only. The following list details the current functions keys, what they do, and when you can use them.

Three keys can be used when Setup is loading and when you are prompted to press the F6 function key to install some third-party small computer system interface () SCSI and host controller drivers:

    • F5 - for computer type or hardware abstraction layer (HAL) selection
    • F6 - to install the SCSI controller drivers and third-party host
    • F7 - to run Setup without Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI)

When the "Welcome" screen is displayed, the following function keys can be used:

    • F2 - to automatically start the process (ASR, Automated System Recovery).
    • F10 - to bypass the menu screens and to load the Recovery Console

During the GUI (GUI) - Mode Setup, the following function keys can be used:

    • SHIFT + F10 - to enable access to a prompt during the installation in graphical Mode
    • SHIFT + F11 - to display "old" wizards that give more detail.

Thus, it is not possible to configure the function keys to perform this task. However, you can use your favorite search engine to perform this task.

Warning: Using third-party software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. • Satellite U840W/001 W8 Fn + Z does not not in special function key Mode

    Hello

I realized that the Fn + Z does not work when my special function keys mode is on IE: when I can control the volume by pressing F9 without pressing the Fn key.

However, the special function keys Mode is turned off (& I have to press Fn with the F # for keys control the volume), then only the Fn + Z active the backlight for the keyboard on & off the power.

When I open my program function key, the only available option is to either change notification power settings. There is no timer control or something useful in this regard.

My BIOS is not any keyboard backlight setting, only the option use the Fn + F # normal or to use special function key mode.

    Please help me.
    Thank you

I U940 and I ve checked its operation. Everything looks OK and I can use FN + Z when I choose special function mode.
In the BIOS under power management, I've seen control option keyboard backlight mode. The same option is available in the BIOS on your machine?
