When you start the installation of (F8 at startup) HARD disk recovery partition recovery image D will be installed on the C partition. In this case the D partition is not deleted. C just partition will be formatted before installation of recovery image begins.

  After installing another OS, you can retrieve only Vista if you start from the Toshiba Recovery disk and install the content. There is no disk HARD recovery option more, it means that the HARD drive recovery partition will not help you.
