Satellite L40 13 G randomly stall/gel

http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=33665&TSTART=0

According to the thread above.

I tried to update the BIOS on my Satellite, but it will not.

I use the default Vista Home Premium it is dated, with Service pack 1.

I changed the suites antivirus because I thought that this may be the cause, and I updated my Atheros Wireless drivers as well.

Some thing I noticed, that could be a coincidence, but the laptop crashes only if I am connected to our wireless router. If I'm mobile somewhere and do not use the Wifi, then the laptop does not freeze either.

I don't know where start narrow the problem. I installed the latest drivers Wireless just this past weekend in the hope that it would improve, but he didn't.

I don't have a lot of programs that start with Windows, because I am very picky, I have install.

This problem has happened since I started using the laptop via Wifi at home.

Thanks for any help.

;)

I have a Satellite L40 13 G and the latest Bios update refuse to update.

There are no instructions, not in the exe and certainly not on the screen. If I didn't know how Flash a BIOS I would certainly not choose the .bin BIOS file in the directory between all DLL files.

  • Sleep on my Satellite L40 problem

    Hi all

I tried to post a more detailed version of this description of the problem, but was prevented by a caveat that my message contained profanity or that it was not appropriate. It didn't, of course, but here's the summary - if more details are required, I will be happy if possible poster.

    (1) satellite L40 equipped Windows Vista goes into sleep mode randomly while the user types. The hard drive spins down, the screen goes blank and the power LED flashes orange. It arrives a few seconds / minutes.

    (4) this does not happen in Mode safe mode of Windows, or when the computer starts from a Memtest86 CD or Ubuntu 9.04 Live CD.

    (5) I reinstalled Windows from the recovery CD Toshiba but the machine came into fashion 'sleep', as soon as he had painted the Office for the first time after installation.

    Any suggestion would be appreciated.

    Rob.

    Hello

    This strange s
Have you checked the energy saving settings? I mean you can try to disable the mode 'sleep' (uncheck the brand)
But to be honest the laptop should not go to the mode standby when the material is used
This would mean that there is something wrong with a part on the motherboard

I think that this issue doesn't happen in Safe Mode because that not all material resources are enabled and available in Mode safe and that's why this error would not be detected.

  • Satellite L40 - proceedings of BIOS rewrite

    Toshiba Satellite L40-14B (catalogue number: PSL4CE - 004005G 3)

I got my laptop for Windows XP (from Vista) and I wanted to update BIOS version for XP Toshiba (5.50). I did everything right but still 2 seconds after you click the .bat file to start the process, Windows has interfered with a critical message and restart my computer.

It restarted, (*) entered 'Recovery of the ROM BIOS utility V1.16 crisis', a progress bar indicates that old bios was erased; After that an another progress bar indicating the flash process stopped after 2 seconds (1 cm); flash error message appeared; the utility tried to erase the BIOS (first step bar once again); clear the error message appeared. The post OFFICE will continue or something like that is displayed, and all is blocked and disabled. After a long time of prayer useless, I removed the battery of my laptop and moving forward again (voltage). And everything is identical (new) brand above (*).

It was a bit strange, especially since, after the reboot, I could access BIOS. No hard drive, the laptop closed in 3 seconds.

I analyzed the contents of the hard drive and found a new file, called T20. BIN (1 M - no doubt with the BIOS image) in C:\.

I think that when the laptop is turned on, it does not find the BIOS, it looks for image file of the BIOS in the root of the active partition on the hard drive, load it (T20. (BIN), begins 'The BIOS utility ROM V1.16 crisis recovery' and you know the rest

After loading the BIOS from the HARD drive and start rewriting, all frozen and I can't do anything: "Recovering the BIOS utility ROM V1.16 crisis" occurs during the POST and POST gel before closing, so I can't get to the point where I can start.

Meanwhile, I've changed the T20. BIN file with other bios (given by the Toshiba Site for Vista) and everything goes the same thing (with the difference that the BIOS for hard drive shows another version number).

I know that some laptops have a service procedure so that you can rewrite the BIOS after the crash. I tried different methods indicated on the forums for other L series, but nothing works.
I could t find the service manual for L40.
I found even when Maintenance manuals for other Toshiba models where are presented procedures for maintenance for the rewriting of the BIOS (usually using a diskette).
Didn t work for L40, floppy USB drive died before entering the BIOS and after that it's too late for me.

Any idea? (Not ASP. I hear good ideas).
Is someone a L40 manual or single BIOS rewrite maintenance procedures?

    Hi lonutS,

That s a pretty long story, but I think the case is clear: something was wrong because the BIOS update and now the ROM module has to be reflashed. Normally the BIOS will be updated in Windows and not after a reboot or something else so probably the ROM module is deleted now but no new version has been flashed.

    > Any idea? (Not ASP. I hear good ideas).
Is someone a L40 manual or single BIOS rewrite maintenance procedures?
Why not ASP? That's the best idea and may ask you what kind of response you expect? Here he s in only a forum from user to user, so no one here can give you the technical manual or a special BIOS recovery tool for this laptop. These utilities only have an ASP and Toshiba itself.

Here in the forum are similar topics on recovering the BIOS then perhaps you should read, but don t forget that everything happens on your own risk! If you have n t successful, I think that the only option is in contact with a ;) ASP.

  • Problem with Windows XP on Satellite L40-139

    Hello Toshiba user community!

I'm new here but I'll cut right to the chase with my problem.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L40 - 139 (PSL40E) model that was included with Windows Vista Home Premium installed and all perfectly installed software. I recently got a Windows XP Professional SP2 through MSDNA of my college (a Microsoft service for universities) and has installed because Windows Vista, although very looking shifted the laptop as hell.

The installation went smoothly. I installed all the drivers that showed the question mark (as the display driver, audio, modem, etc.). I experienced a few problems. They are presented below as well as a few questions:

    1. I can't use the Fn function more. While Fn + F8 works, I can't turn the volume upwards or downwards using Fn + arrow up / Fn + arrow key or any other combination.

    2. the display driver although it shows that it is perfectly installed it seems that it is not.
    a. I do not have the optino of display properties when I right click on the desktop.
    b. I recently installed Gothic I, who had previously worked on my L40 and now after playing the intro, I do not see the menu. It's dark, but the sound can be heard as the navigation menu. If I manage to press new surprise of game, it's always black and sometimes it shows a random graphic error.
I tried to install the Toshiba page display driver. And after that he has not changed a thing I downloaded one from the Intel site. Same thing!

    Do you know a sollution?

3 another problem, although as unrelated to the laptop is the for my laptop model Toshiba download page only shows the "how to install Windows XP.pdf" file. " This is for the Windows XP operating system. If you change to Vista you get a lot of pilots. It would almost seem Toshiba would force me to HAVE Vista so that my Satellite wo works properly. Any ideas?

    4. do you know a good tutorial on how to install Windows XP for Toshiba L40 laptop? Especially for the L40 - 139 (PSL40E)?

    5. If Windows XP succeeded withought problem to see my hard drive is necessary to install the driver Toshiba mentions in his XP installation tutorial? I mean he should improve performance or not?

    Thank you in advance,
I will adjust your answers tomorrow!

    Best regards!

    Robert Mocanu

    Hi Robert,.

I think that there is no such thing as a tutorial for installing Windows XP on your machine. But you can count the installation instructions provided on the page to Toshiba, because WinXP installation is all about good pilot order.

Have you tried to select as model number short "all"? You can find many drivers and I am sure that these will work very well for your laptop.
I'd say reinstall with the Toshiba page display drivers and try again. And install the latest version of direct X 9.

OK, Gothic I is not a new game, but worth a try anyway.
Ditto for the FN keys. Just follow the installation instructions and download and run driver configurations.

I found some details on this error notification ERR_CERT_DATE_INVALID
The reason has been discussed in the Microsoft forum.

It seems that Avast antivirus somehow involved in this error.
Try disabling all the parameters that may affect the https sites.

Of course, you can also try to uninstall Avast Antivir and could test other software like Avira Antivir.

  • Need to drive original pilot and OS for my Satellite L40

    Hello

is there anyway to get another copy of the original disc supplied with my Satellite L40 - 18Z driver and OS? apparently the last time I used it, it has not installed properly and I have problems trying to install .net or windows update

    Please visit https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx
On this page, you should be able to order the original recovery media. Your laptop is quite old so I really hope that your phone model will be on the list. Check it out.

Otherway, you can install your own version of the OS. All the necessary drivers, tolls and the utilities that you can download from the Toshiba support page - http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp

  • Satellite L40 - changing RAID SATA to IDE SATA

    Hello

I tried to change the option on my SATA RAID bios (that I think I have by default) to SATA IDE, but when I go into my bios, I find no option to change this aspect.
I have a Toshiba Satellite L40 and only Linux UBUNTU 8.10 installed on my computer. I saw messages in the other Foruns where I told me to update my bios but I don't know how to do it under Ubuntu.

Can someone help me with this solution OR give me better to change that?
    Thank you

As far as I know, this option does not exist and update of the BIOS will not help at all. The BIOS update does not any additional installation.
BIOS update is only possible under Windows.

Can you please tell me why you want to change this option?

If someone has done this, would appreciate an idiots guide to doing the same thing.

Of course you can do it.
The DVD of Vista recovery Toshiba help you install Vista, all the drivers Toshiba and tools, and it automatically creates all the partitions.

So what you have to do is to boot from the recovery DVD and follow the instructions on-screen ;)
