Or could I just go out and buy window 7 upgarde and pop in the laptop and install well work?

Thank you
Lily

Hi Lily,

You have used the disk to upgrade to Windows 7 in Toshiba or was it a normal disc of Windows 7 from Microsoft?

In my opinion, this error message means that the file on the disc can t be read properly. Maybe the disc is scratched or your CD/DVD drive doesn't work properly. Have you tried other discs?

  • Just impossible to go from Vista to Windows 7 Pro home

After reading a lot of posts, tried for hours, the call from Microsoft, I just can not upgrade Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Pro with my legal key.

My hard drive in my HP Pavilion laptop is dead.  I've restored my Vista Home Premium 32 bit DVD.  At some point in the past, I've upgraded to Windows 7 pro.

    I can't get there.

I called Microsoft, my Win 7 Pro key is legal and acceptable.

If I try to upgrade to Win 7 Home Premium, it does not accept my key and install my only option is to clean up the States.

If I install win 7 at this point, my key will not activate, even with telephone calls to MS.

I don't remember when I install only clean or when I have to install regular kicks windows, but I can't upgrade when it is started on the Win 7 Home DVD.

If I make a new install of Win 7 pro, the error message indicating that my key is upgraded only.

I tried some scripts on SevenForums to reset the flag of registry, did not work.

MS technical support told me to switch to Win 7 home, then win pro, it does not work.

I'm out of options, I hate MS with a passion.  Why is it so difficult and complicated.

I have my copy of Windows.

When I try to download an ISO from Windows recovery software, none of my legal keys work.  I have just errors of the webiste of recovery Ms.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

Windows 7 Professional ever taken in charge in modernization of the place of Windows Vista Home Premium in any case. You should have done a custom installation:

Boot from the Windows 7 DVD

To learn how to change your BIOS options to boot from the DVD drive, the following tutorial:

    http://notebooks.com/2011/05/05/How-to-load-BIOS-and-change-boot-configuration/

    Click Install now
    Accept the license agreement
When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)

Select the disk partition where you want to install Windows 7 click Next.

You will receive the following warning:

The partition you have selected may contain files from a previous Installation of Windows. If so, these files and folders will be moved to a folder named Windows.old. You will be able to access the information in Windows.old, but you will be able to use your previous version of Windows.

(At all costs, do NOT click on anything in Format, deletion or Partition name.) So even do a custom installation, your personal files are still kept. Click OK

The installation program will now begin installation. During installation, your computer will be restarted several times.

Once the installation is complete, you can complete the Out of Box experience as the choice of your laptop, create a username, password, your time zone. You can then proceed to download the latest updates for Windows and reinstall your applications and drivers.

You can then retrieve your personal files from the Windows.old folder and reinstall all of your applications and drivers.

You can try to revive by phone:

    1) click Start and in the search for box type: slui.exe 4

    (2) press the ENTER"" key.

    (3) select your "country" in the list.

    (4) choose the option "activate phone".

    (5) stay on the phone (do not select/press all options) and wait for a person to help you with the activation.

    (6) explain your problem clearly to the support person.

    Hello

The problem is that you must install the SATA driver (among others) in the XP operating system!
You will use the FDD USB external (floppy) drive or you will create a new Win XP CD using the freeware tool called nLite (google for nLite get details).

In addition, after the installation of the SATA driver you shouldn't t format the HARD drive because it would wipe out the SATA driver and the HARD drive will not be recognized!

    Best regards

  • After the OS from Vista to Windows 7 upgrade, lost bookmarks. Could they be somewhere in "windows.old"?

    Hello

I upgraded my OS from Vista to Windows 7 and lost bookmarks, I had in Firefox. Back up my documents files and they are OK. Unfortunately, I don't think to back up my Firefox bookmarks.html file.

However, I did the upgrade of the operating system from the disk and a "windows.old" folder has been created which seems to have a lot of my old files, applications, and others, but I can't find "bookmarks.html" in the firefox folder or in my user folder.

Is there another place in windows.old where bookmarks could be, or a different file name, it may be under?

Please help, there are a few important bookmarks that I lost and which were accumulated over several years.

    Thank you!

Firefox has not used the file bookmarks.html for storage of bookmark since the release of Firefox 2. You need a JSON bookmark backup file or the file places.sqlite. See this:

    http://support.Mozilla.com/en-us/KB/recovering+important+data+from+an+old+profile

Your old profile is located here in Windows Vista and Win7:

    drive: \Users\Windows login user name\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\profile_name

You may need to display 'files and hidden folders' in Win7 to be able to access the Firefox profile in windows.old files and the new installation of the OS.

  • Move from vista to windows 7 on the same computer. Is it necessary to make a "transfer"?

I'm doing an upgrade on my computer from vista to windows 7.

Am a little confused about the need to "transfer" of data to an external source.

What is a precautionary measure, used to retrieve the data if something terrible happens?

Or is it that, after the upgrade to windows 7, the data is then "transferred", back on the computer newly improved?
