  I think you should check the sound volume using the headphones.
  If the headphones work correctly the problem might be related to internal speakers.

  Did you check if the speakers are standard audio output device? You can check in Control Panel > hardware and sound > sound. In a new window, you see the playback devices and make sure that the speakers are set by default.
