Satellite Pro 4600 the compatibility issue with the LG GCE8080n CD player?

Hello

got a used LG gce-8080n-engraver of cd for my 4600 to replace a cd-rom drive with my laptop has been delivered. After reading startup an error message: "Please press F2 to select the boot device. Then 'IDE #1 failure. Of course, the cd burner was not recognized correctly. Even though the cd burner may default, I want to rule out any problem to incompatibity. Thus information on a successful installation of a gce8080n Lounge on a 4600 would be greatly appreciated. Wolfgang

Hi Wolfgang,.

This error indicates that you LG burner are incorrectly configured as Master or Cable Select rather than Slave.

Normally, the configuration is performed by riders on the disc itself, but in the case of the portable 'slim' readers, it is usually preset by the manufacturer in the firmware. This means that it is generally not possible to change the setting. : ()

I intend to get 2 sticks and replace the stick of 128 MB with them, so there are 512 in the machine altogether - which should make windows xp run a little faster!

    Hello

It seems that the module must be compatible.
According to the description she s a 144-Pin PC133 SODIMM.

    I visited this site useful:
    http://www.orcalogic.co.UK/ASP/ProdType.asp?ProdType=5778&ft=m&St=3

You will also find the compatible module for Satellite Pro 4600
The site recommends the use of the PC133 SODIMM 144 pin and you could improve it to max 512 MB (2x256MB)

  • Satellite Pro 4600: WinXP - no hardware acceleration for dvd?

I have a satellite pro 4600 pentium 3 800 with 128 MB of ram and graphics Trident CyberBlade XP card. The device is perfectly able to reproduce DVDs with the software alone by using PowerDVD 6. However due to the fact that my battery is almost dead, I would be able to play the DVD the most optimized battery settings.

Setting of the unit (approximately 350 mhz) low processor should be able to play DVDs if backed up by hardware acceleration, since cyberblade claims to be a card directX 7 with motion compensation and idct. However 4 PowerDVD 6 PowerDVD and windvd 7 do not recognize hardware acceleration under windows XP.

In the past, I had a similar problem with a laptop computer with a graphics card than cyberblade i7. I was then able to activate hardware acceleration using just powerdvd 4 and windows 98, but I don't want to resort to that.

Can someone help me? Do you know any software reading with the support of cyberblade XP Windows? Do I need any other drivers? I have the drivers on the toshiba site, and they date back to 2001.

    Hello

Unfortunately, I n t have any experience in hardware acceleration of the cyberblade card but mobile graphics cards are not similar with Office PC cards.
As far as I know the unit has a support of the Trident Cyber BLADE XP video controller 16 MB VRAM external video and DVD material.
However, you will find the Toshiba drivers on the Toshiba site but if you need one on so I would say to ask the support of Trident.
But if you use no drivers Toshiba you can do at your own risk!

  • Satellite Pro 4600: Win2k with SP4 - cooler run all the time

    Hello

last week, I bought a used Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600 PIII, 1 GHz, 512 GB of Ram, WIFI and DVD burner. Great machine so far.

After that I changed the FAT32 file system to NTFS and reinstalled Win2K/SP4 cooler runs all the time.

TaskManager says that "THOT_KEY.exe" uses up 99% of the CPU power. Disabling this service reduces the power of the processor and the cooler was quite, BUT didn't really helped - lots of keys does not work.

I ran a few utilities to disinfect as Kaspersky, NOD32 etc. to ensure that Ia´ve not taken some malware.
Should I try a bios update or change some settings?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks for help

    Hello

AFAIK the THOT_KEY.exe belongs to the Toshiba Hotkey utility that controls the various key functions.
If you disable this service, you will not be able to use the FN keys more.
I m not 100% sure why this service uses 99% of CPU performance, but perhaps that it s not completely compatible with the W2K service packs. Where did you download this utility? I found it on the page of Toshiba Europe!

In my opinion, you should try to reinstall the system again. This is probably the key!

    Good luck

  • Satellite Pro 4600: sometimes applications stop running with the new RAM

    Hi all

I was wondering if anyone out there can shed some light on my problem. I've recently upgraded for an extra 256 MB on my Satellite Pro 4600. The laptop showed the increase in RAM. Since the installation, for some reason any after running for awhile applications (this varies between 10 minutes to a few hours like laptop start up), applications stop running. I can not open new applications. When I restart, I can run the applications in my laptop as usual again.

I received my offtek RAM. Manufacturer part number is the same as specified in the manual of my laptop.

    Please someone has an idea?

    Compatibility just in fact know.

    Hello

I put t found any information if this drive is compatible with the Satellite Pro 4600, but you should be careful to replace the drive.
You should check the dimensions of the car. Very important is the drive (master, slave, csel) settings because it is not possible to change this settings as on the usual desktop drive.
I'm not sure about the settings on the Satellite Pro 4600 but the ASP Toshiba should know that.
You can also order the caught player supported by the Toshiba service partner in your country.

  • Satellite Pro 4600: beep when the headphones are connected

    Greetings to everyone.

I feel a strange audio problem with my Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600 headphone output port. Whenever headphones are used, bursts of low beep occur regularly every 3 seconds or so superimposed on what playing right now. Each burst lasts about one second and consists of about 8 fast beeps. The beeps occur after Windows starts and end once the system off. I thought that it was a driver issue, but I use the latest driver for my card, downloaded from the site Web of Toshiba (package name: s5105sndx.exe).

    Can anyone help?

    Thank you for your attention.

This problem doesn't appear if the headphone is plugged or also with the speakers if the headphones are disconnected?

If this happens only if the headphone is connected if there is something wrong with the headphone jack.

  • Satellite Pro 4600 - what is the maximum size of HARD drive?

My age Satellite Pro 4600 has a 20 GB HARD drive. These are now very difficult to obtain, does anyone know if superior capacy HDDs can be used and, if so, what is the maximum size of the HARD drive.

(Despite his age that I always use the Satellite Pro for some jobs).

    Hello John

Satellite Pro 4600 is old enough for laptop and it is not easy to find the exact info. The fact is that this laptop comes with 10 and 20 GB hard drives.
My opinion is that you can use 30 or even 40 GB HDD. I think that 30 GB new HARD drive should be enough for your some jobs.

    What do you think?

  • Satellite Pro 4600: I want to upgarde the RAM

I want to upgarde the RAM on my satellite pro 4600. It currently has 128 MB of RAM.
Anyone know what kind of memory card should I buy and how to install it?
    Should what size I go?
I've been in the PC World and they weren't much help.
Any ideas / information gratefully received.
    See you soon,.
    Bob.

    Hi Bob,

The following link will take you to a page containing all relevant information on memeory upgrades for your 4600 (including part numbers.

    http://www.orcalogic.co.UK/ASP/ProdType.asp?ProdType=5778&ft=m&St=3

I think that your device has two memory slots, and I assume that you currently have a home in use with 128 MB of RAM installed (the 4600 had 64 MB or 128 MB).

RAM modules are available in sizes 64 MB, 128 MB and 256 MB.

The maximum that you can install is 512 MB (i.e. 2 X 256 MB modules. The amount that you need will depend greatly on what applications run you as well as what operating system, but the usual recommendation is a minimum of 512 MB for windows XP (at least for the earlier OS).

The RAM modules are normally accessed from the bottom of the unit. Normally, there is a cover with 2 or more screws. Check you manual for the exact location on your device.

    Kind regards

  • Record stereo sound on the Satellite Pro 4600

    Hello everyone and happy NYE!

I am trying to record a stereo sound from an external source on my Satellite Pro 4600.
I read in the manual of the only way to enter the stereo signal from other sources (e.g., external CD player) is through card Station IV as the laptop itself has only monaural audio input jack.
Is it possible to record stereo sound from external source without having to invest in the Station IV card?
Or if not, is there any software that can convert the stereo, mono signal?

Thanks for any help on this matter.

    Matthew.

    Hello

In my opinion you can do this only if you use an external device to the audio transfer stereo. In combination with the right software, you can save, for example, old records and put music in digital format.

    Good bye

  • Satellite Pro 4600 - unable to connect to the wireless network

Hello, I have a problem with my Satellite pro 4600 model # Ps460C-04NVX
The problem is with the PA3070U-1MPC wireless adapter
I see my network in a wireless network with excellent signal, but it does not connect

I have a fresh install of win xp sp3. I don't have original driver cd.

Can someone help me please? Thank you

    Hello

As Akuma suggested you should ensure that you are using the latest driver WLAN on Toshiba website for your laptop.
I founded your model on Toshiba Canada website: http://support.toshiba.ca

Your network configuration is not kwon to me, but you should check the TCP/IP settings. If you have DHCP do you get an IP address from the router? You can check this in the start menu > run > cmd > ipconfig/all

If you use a 3rd party firewall, you must disable.

    Good bye

  • How to access the BIOS on Satellite Pro 4600 settings?

    Guys,

I received a Satellite Pro 4600, unfortunately this laptop has 2 and a half proceeding on this issue. The first is MS2000, then XP then an incomplete installation of XP. When I start the laptop, it asks which OS I want to use. I have a legal copy of XP that I bought and I want to reformat the computer laptop and put on a new install of XP, the problem is how to enter the BIOS to change the settings to boot to a CD?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Steve

    Hello

First of all you n t need to access the BIOS to boot from the CD.
You can simply press the F12 key immediately after the laptop has been powered.
It would show the available boot options.

Alternatively, you can press the C button that would automatically allow the CD/DVD drive as the boot source.

Try to remove the AC adapter and the battery and wait an hour. Connect the AC adapter and the battery. Now try again.

Does this happen if with battery or AC adapter?
