• Why does VSSVC.exe run every day?

  Out & about once every few days VSSVC.exe & TrustedInstaller.exe will start running. It usually takes only 30-50% of my CPU unless I'm doing something else at the same time. As a result, I find generally that, under 'System Restore', a new restore point has been created. I also found what is VSSVC.exe & that this probably meant that my computer had a 'system' update & so was do a restore point for that. I'm assuming that "System updates" are different from "Windows Updates" since I was those value only notify & never automatically download or install. In addition, I did have a "Windows Update" in a few days which also proves that it is something different. A few minutes ago VSSVC.exe started running again with TrustedInstaller.exe & took a few minutes to finish as usual. However, while they inspected "System Restore" I found that the last created restore point was about 3 days ago, even though these two process turned a few minutes ago. So now, I have a few questions I need to answer.

  1: What are the "system updates"?

  2: If in fact they are the same that "Windows Updates" that are normally downloaded & installed, why am I not notified of them in advance?

  3: can I plan "system updates"?

  4: can I plan when the System Restore Points that are created from VSSVC.exe?

  5: If all my current assumptions are bad, what in fact is happening really?

  On a final note, I should mention that I have indeed update my Microsoft Security Essentials every day. Although VSSVC.exe is not following this model is why this whole situation left me speechless. I perform analyses of viruses once a week who are always clean, apart from the question I mentioned that my computer runs great.

  As mentioned it is part of the snapshot service that is used by restoring the system as well as protection of system files and the "previous file" feature.

  Restore points are created automatically when changes to the system.

• Automated bookmark backups do not run every day - maybe all 3-4 days. No reason that I can detect. Browser.Bookmarks.MAX_BACKUPS has the value 10.

  Creating a profile has not fixed the problem.

  I'm working on the database to Oracle 10 g. I am trying to run one every day of the procedure in the annex to be run at 18:45. I used the anonymous block below as suggested in one of the responses to my earlier thread. He runs the script first time about 18:45, and the next day, he runs at midnight. This translates records duplicate being inserted. How can I run every day exactly at 6:45? The code needs to go to production soon and appreciate an early response.

  AFAIK, except if you have a few programming specifialised run SW, Windows Scheduler did a good job.

• Add-on AVG in Internet Explorer... Every day I stop and every day it does it again...

  You can try to reset the browser to its default values remove all addins "toolbar" etc. which could cause problems... U did not mention what version of Internet Explorer, you use so I hope you can get the gist by using the link above.

  In addition, you can disable the option that allows to disable USB ports in order to save power. This can be done in-USB Controllers-> properties > Device Manager - > last tab (power management)

  Since neither updates Jan - 10 have installed, I'm going to hand you Support MS in the hope that they can resolve the problem. See below.

  That being said, is an interpretation of the 80070017 - cyclic redundancy check error "a device attached to the system does not work," which suggests that a hardware problem might be the cause of the error (although I must say that it is a very low possibility in this case).

  Vincent,

  We often use this methodology. You just need to run this package once. Since looping sound, it will continue to operate and run the task every 30 minutes and then refresh the variable. The variable will take care of the idle behavior of 22:00 to 10:00.

  Are you sure of the definition of work? The DBMS_JOB. Call to SUBMIT, you have validated, for example, is incorrect, because the INTERVAL parameter takes a string, not a date.

  If your script is

    ,interval => 'TRUNC(sysdate+1)+6/24'
  

  who would ever resolve at 06:00. I would tend to believe that the actual definition of the specified simply task

    ,interval => 'sysdate+1'
  

  If it took 2 minutes to run, that would solve at 06:02.

• Update fails and KB955759 installs every day

  Every day when I turn my computer off it wants to install the update above.  Every day when I turn it on the yellow shield are on and tells me to install the KB055759 update.  I have run the fix it program and it breaks down, I tried to make a fix auto and he says back up the registry I did so I can't figure out the next step.  Microsoft Web site is like a dog chasing its tail, it never quite gets to the solution.  I was looking for the help of Visual Basic 500 times and never found files.  For the money you people are doing, you might make this a bit simpler or better yet do to make it work.
