  I know this is an old thread, but I came across it looking for a solution to the same problem. It turns out that my problem has a cause simple and simple solution.   I had the same problem with my Asus EeePC Netbook. The highest resolution was 1024 x 600. I was able to change it by changing the settings of register of Display1_DownScalingSupported in 1152 x 864 (two entries) from 0 to 1. Proceed at your own risk.

  You will not be able to use Windows applications if you can not get a resolution of at least 1024 x 768. This requirement will not be changed. Many netbooks do not have a resolution of 1024 x 768.
