SE host HA status

, We strive to use PowerCLI to get the host State HA.  We found some old posts from blog ( http://www.virtu-al.net/2009/10/28/powercli-listing-cluster-primary-ha-nodes/ and https://boerlowie.wordpress.com/2011/09/16/list-ha-runtime-states-with-powercli/ ) this reference by using Get-View and RetrieveDasAdvancedRuntimeInfo. From this, we should be able to obtain the status of host with the DasHostInfo.HostDasState property.  However, that is not filled for our clusters. We have a vCenter 5.1 and a vCenter 5.5, but we have no vCenters 4.x to check that we call the RetrieveDasAdvancedRuntimeInfo correctly.  Is it discouraged? Moved to a different location? We use only the fault of the API?

PowerCLI C:\script > $view = get-views $cluster

PowerCLI C:\script > $view.retrieveDasAdvancedruntimeInfo)

You can now query the status of each host in the cluster, something like this

  • ESX 3.5 - host connection status error

    I am running 3 ESX 3.5 servers in a cluster, run by VC 2.5.

    I followed my environment with IPmonitor. I was randomly to the alerts below on one of my hosts.

    Current value:

    State of the connection - home (State = no response)

    Alarm: State of home connection

    ()

    Description:

    State of the host connection on esx01.company.com from green to red to alarm

    When I check Virtual Center, the host shows "not responding" and therefore make the virtual machines. This happens only briefly and the virtual machine never loses connectivity to the network. They don't even migrate to another host. The service console has 2 NICs (1 active, 1 standby). I don't know why this is happening. I don't get any other errors on the network.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    Scott

    This day you run for ESX 3.5?  This happens every now and then on my systems as well and I think that vCenter Update 5 is supposed to solve a problem similar to this one, but that includes a firewall between your ESX and vCenter.

  • Network host adapter and the status of the connection

    Does anyone know the property of the object to get the host 'Link Status' network adapter?

    I can get the name of the NETWORK adapter and the speed duplex but nothig on the status of the connection

    Thank you

    You can not get the status of link directly (as far as I know).

    You can detect the status of "link down" through the linkSpeed in PhysicalNic object property.

    You can use something like this

    (Get-VmHost  | Get-View).Config.Network.Pnic | %{
         if($_.LinkSpeed -eq $null){
              Write-Host $_.Device "Link down"
         }
    }

  • Mavericks of hp photosmart b110

    I'm sure you can help. I try to get my Photosmart B110a connected wireless to my Macbook Pro in Mavericks 10.9.2

    The printer is connected is the network that I can connect via my browser using IP inside address and I see everything about the printer and I have a choice of menu, it gives me the ink level, confirms the connection, Hello is allowed including host name, status appears as loan. This lead me to the conclusion that the computer is in talks with the printer, the Mavericks just doesn't seem to know that.

    When I select system preferences, click the plus sign + nothing comes up under the default section.

    If I use IP option and I get the IP address of the printer and I have to manually enter the IP address it comes back and tells me that it is HP Photosmart B110 series; Then when I click on Add it comes back and tells me "failed to verify the printer on your network. Unable to connect to? ??. ?. ? reason and error ".

    If I add the printer it shows it is available but I can't print on it. Nevertheless, I can open the printer and I have not even enter the HP printer utilities, it gives me the correct device information, I CAAN print test page, check the levels all that makes the utility. I print quality diagnostic page as I type (and it seems good).

    Then, when I try to print a document, nothing happens and I get the error unable to connect to the printer.

    I am really at my wits end with this.

    Concerning

    Hello

    Try to add the printer using its IP address, however, change the Type of HP Jetdirect and check if that might cause a difference and to allow the addition of the printer for printing.

    In addition, don't forget to specify your router brand and model to better understand its Multicast capabilities, which can affect the performance of Hello.

    < ident > go < / ident >

    < logHeaderFile > /var/run/vmware/hostdLogHeader.txt < / logHeaderFile >

    < / syslog >

    < / log >

    For the record, I changed < level > (was verbose)

    2. changes to the advanced settings:

    Verbose for info Config.HostAgent.log.level

    Vpx.Vpxa.config.log.level verbose for info.

    No results even after reboot of the host.

    I missed something?

    This ESXi is Lenovo custom image.

    Hello

    I met exactly same problem with our brand new Lenovo x 3650 M5 machines. Unfortunately, VMware was not able to say where these newspapers come as there is not a hardware problem.

    If you feel comfortable, you can decrease vmkernel loging level by:

    core of the system settings set - setting = acpiDbgLevel - value = 1 esxcli

    Then, you will need to reboot your host.

    I hope it helps.

  • Using 'or' in a loop

    Get stumped on this one and looking for any help.  This snippet of a script basically comes right after adding hosts again in a cluster.  It checks to make sure that guests are connected before proceeding.  It has been working fine until we hit a cluster with a host in maintenance mode .  Come in white on how to add maybe one or a statement that would allow me to include as a State maintenance mode.  Any contribution is appreciated.

    #Importing host information collected earlier csv

    $CSVhosts = import-Csv.\VMHost.csv

    #Checking that the hosts are connected before proceeding

    {foreach ($vmhost to $CSVhosts)

    {}

    [string] $status = (get-vmhost-name $vmhost.name | select ConnectionState)

    Write-Host "connection status of" $vmhost.name "="$status"'-process will run when the status of the host is connected" "

    Start-Sleep - seconds 1

    }

    While ($status - don't ' @{ConnectionState = connected} ")

    }

    With the help of one or one in all in State would work, but you also use a table of the status of the target and use the operator of notcontains.

    Something like this for example

    $waitForThese = 'Connected', 'Maintenance '.

    #Imporing host information collected earlier csv

    $CSVhosts = import-Csv.\VMHost.csv

    #Checking that the hosts are connected before proceeding

    {foreach ($vmhost to $CSVhosts)

    {}

    $status = get-VMHost-name $vmhost.name | Select the ConnectionState - ExpandProperty

    Write-Output "connection status of the $($vmhost.name) = $status - process will run when the status of the host is connected.

    Start-Sleep - seconds 1

    }

    While ($waitForThese - notcontains $status)

    }

  • A script for the e-mail notifications to all detectors of vCenter device 54 default works as expected, however it ends with an error.

    Hello

    We test the automatic configuration of alerts by email of all the alarms of 54 by default since version 5.0 of the device of vCenter.

    Since this is something that we intend to do on all the installations/upgrades, it can be a time-consuming task having to manually set each alarm set on each vCenter so I indicated to an article in the blog of VMpros which appears to address a similar task and who suggests using PowerCLI script to take care of this:

    http://blog.vmpros.nl/2011/07/04/VMware-change-alarm-actions-with-PowerCLI/

    I fixed the script from its original version because it shouldn't change certain actions of alarm to send alarm notifications at a different e-mail once a week. Instead, we will propose a one-time activity.

    After configuring vCenter server connection information and change the e-mail addresses, I have successfully tested the custom script to add notifications by e-mail to a test alarm (named "Test alarm") to a simple action, that I had created earlier (turn on/off a virtual computer in our laboratory). The added script notifications by e-mail to our alarm test as expected without error.

    Before you change the script to add e-mail notifications to all 54 defect detectors as needed, I decided to test the custom script against one of the predefined alarms (named 'Host the status of material power'). While the script added notifications by e-mail to the alarm 'Material receiving power status' as expected, he finished with errors.

    I just want to make sure that our custom script contains no script errors before using it on all the installations/upgrades (any suggestion or criticism is welcome).

    I pasted the error resulting from the prompt of Windows PowerShell commands below.

    Thank you and best regards,

    Massimiliano

    Okay, I think I found the problem.

    You set 3 actions on this alarm (3 x Email).

    This means that it

    Get-AlarmDefinition -Name "$actAlarm1" | Get-AlarmAction

    Returns 3 objects (one for each action).

    Unfortunately, the New-AlarmActionTrigger cmdlet wants 1 as input Action, not a table object.

    The solution is to select the Action of explictely for which you want to change the trigger.

    Something like that

    Get-AlarmDefinition -Name "$actAlarm1" | Get-AlarmAction | Select -Index 0 | New-AlarmActionTrigger -StartStatus "Green" -EndStatus "Yellow" Get-AlarmDefinition -Name "$actAlarm1" | Get-AlarmAction | Select -Index 1 | New-AlarmActionTrigger -StartStatus "Red" -EndStatus "Yellow" Get-AlarmDefinition -Name "$actAlarm1" | Get-AlarmAction | Select -Index 2 | New-AlarmActionTrigger -StartStatus "Yellow" -EndStatus "Green"

    Beware, the script does not remove the old triggers, so you will end up having several triggers for actions.

    First use the remove-AlarmActionTrigger to remove any existing triggers.

  • Managed Exchange of comments (static vs 'Windows') file

    Anyone know of any article talks about the advantages and disadvantages of creating a static in a pagefile guest OS (or if it's at all different that he put on a bare metal OS)? I have 4 Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 Ultimate 1 on a host of memory of 8GB, running off a WD Raptor single 300 GB hard drive. I am committed specifically on memory (granted 9FR) to test balloning. Although the performance was surprisingly good, I wondered recently if a static file (good'ole 1.5 x RAM) should improve performance at all. So far, he seems to have improved performance a little, especially when I'm features intensive disk through multiple clients. Of course, this could just be a little illusory, the placebo effect, that's why I want to see the white papers on the issue.

    I know the 1.5 x RAM is old school and should not really be applied to the most recent operating system (especially 64-bit) but even if they exchange 2010, RRAS and web/FTP servers, they literally nothing 95% of the time.

    TIA.

    I really think it's the old school as you say. The 1.5 x RAM always comes to a number which was 'stuck' as something good and useful, but which is really just arbitrarily number that doesn't say. You would no doubt minimum performance by static gain this setting.

    Modern Windows operating systems is not heavy on the use of the swap file in any case and with a small approval like this, they won't have to do much all internal Exchange. Keep an eye on the host balloon status, if it is high the VMs, pourrait be forced to do paging.
