Select new / mask locked

I just upgraded to Photoshop 2015.5 and spin on my MacBook Pro.   When I try to use the Select new & mask tool, whenever I try to make a selection with the magic wand my system hangs and I have to force quit and then restart Photoshop.  I tried to reset the tool and it does not seem to improve.  Anyone having the same problem and found how to fix this on a Mac?  I've seen a solution for Windows that indicates that you have deleted the file preferences and restart Photoshop, and the new file will be created that can solve the problem.  I tried to find a preference on my Mac file and fails.

Hi b3photo. On a mac, launch Photoshop and before that don't appear the start screen, press Option + command + shift and a window should open asking you if you want to reset, say Yes. Also check your video card drivers and make sure you have the most recent available. I'm on windows, so I can't help you there!

I don't think you're missing something really, as you say press 'shift' to activate the version "+" of the Brush tool and so you will always get an addition to your selection if SHIFT-click between two points to give a straight line. If you really want to avoid using press SHIFT-click on the button 'invert' and then shift - click, when finished press "reverse" yet once and you should have what you want.

  • Mask and select new

Now that "refine the mask" was replaced by "select and mask" I have a slight but very annoying question. In the past, I would always be out in a new layer, I check "remember settings" and I didn't need to make the selection on the following images. It seems that the select interface and mask new, updates don't remember the setting new layer (or any other choice except for the selection "default").

Does anyone have a work around for this? Thank you!

Have you tried to use it with the option "decontaminate colors"? It should stick in this way.

  • The new tool Selection and mask hatred!

Get rid of the tool refine edge is probably the largest in the history of the Socialist Party. I like this tool and use constantly to get my masks just as it should. Select new and mask the tool only works on layers pixelated. I understand that for the detection/RADIUS tool to work correctly the mask must be on a pixel layer. However, this tool is not all that refine edge offers! The smooth, feather, contrast and update tools are extremely powerful, as well as quick and easy access, when you work with masks on adjustment layers. My quick shortcut to refine the edge is no longer works. I have to drag the mask to a layer pixel or find other ways to adapt. None is as effective as a fast/command R option and typing in my settings that I tab by refinements. I am EXTREMELY frustrated and disappointed. Does anyone know of any workaround solutions to return refine edge? Help, please!

I thank everyone for your comments here, we are actively looking for the behaviors described. If you have files that you can send us where you see a significant deterioration in output using select and mask, we want these files. They will help us identify specific problems in the flow of work and with the underlying algorithm.

One of the behaviors described in this thread is that select and mask only works on a pixel layer. It is a bug (we have a difficulty, that we are working on) and in the meantime, a workaround is available by double clicking on the mask to enter the select space and no mask on layers of pixels.

We are looking for also actively to the performance of the brush edge refine subtract - please stay tuned for updates over here that we are building a case to identify exactly what might be the underlying problem.

This is the first version of Select and mask, but we have on our backlog of adding other tools in this space in order to allow a greater number of workflow. More to come here.

  • Using refine edge (or select and mask) only on a part of an existing mask

Is it possible to use refine edge (or select & mask) only on a part of a mask to avoid mess with what is already ready to go? (which to choose and mask tends to often especially when you use the brush, then the border brush refine for example).

Kinda like the gel with fluidity tool or masking of the areas you want to not use when using content aware.

    Thank you.

PS: I would like to be able to do it directly on the mask, I train without having to store selections as a channel. This is because it is not convenient when you want to do a lot of time on complex selections.

I don't know of any provision aimed at limiting (gel) edge tool refine in some and mask - sounds like a great idea to raise here:
    https://feedback.Photoshop.com/photoshop_family

However, I used workaround, to refine part of the mask, that doesn't involve not only save as channels and takes longer to describe than to do:

    1. prepare your initial mask and save with the layer.
2 click once on this mask
    3. use the lasso tool to draw around the area you want to change (refine)
    4. make a right click the mask and click "Intersect with selection".
    5. fill in the new selection with black (on the layer mask)
    6. now double-click the mask to open it, select and mask. You will notice that only the area you want to refine is indicated.
7 tools to refine this area of your mask
    8. Once done select "output to selection", and then click OK
    9. make sure that the mask is highlighted, and then fill the selection refined with White - this puts a new version of the section that you filled with black previously.

  • Refine edge in Select and mask

I am not able to use tools refine in "select and mask" correctly. Rather than refine edges, it removes even the selection. I need some advice on her please. I use Macbook pro and Photoshop cc 2015.5.1.

A conversation around to refine edge tool vs select and mask is also going on here, with a great new video of Conrad that most users of the tool Selection and mask must look to better refine their use of different brushes: Re: PS 2015.5 - tool refine edge? Missing?

Feel free to continue the conversation.

  • Select and mask

I tried to change the color of the floor, so I tried "select and mask ' to highlight only the word, I wanted to work on... and then I got lost!... can someone tell me the procedure how to change the color of something after using select and mask?

    Any help would be great.

When you are finished with the selection just click on the OK button in the properties panel on the right side of your screen. Selection will be loaded and you can create new settings such as Hue/Saturation layer using the selection for the adjustment layer mask.

  • Select and mask is not an option

Hello everyone. I have a problem with the new ' select and mask ", it basically does not appear in my Photoshop. I have only the option "refine edge". Someone who can help?

And Yes, I have the latest version of Photoshop, which should include the tool 'Selection and mask '.

    Hello

I know you think that you have the latest version, but I don't think you do. Could you go to the Help menu and call information system. In the dialog box, the top line is your installed version. It should read

    Adobe Photoshop Version: 2015.5.0 20160603.r.88 2016/06 / 03:23:00:00 CL 1078833 x 64

If your copy is the same so you have a corrupt installation, but I suspect it will say 2015.2.1 or an earlier version. Irronically if you managed to get 2015.5.0 to improve the contour rather than select and mask, then a lot of people here would like to know how you did it S & M is not universally popular

  • SELECT and mask of pixelation/staircasing

When I refine a mask using smart RADIUS, close the window "select and mask" then return to refine once again, at the point where I use the brush refine edge it tool rasterizes the edges of the mask where it was previously smooth. Why is this happening?

In addition, while I am using the Brush tool refine edge, the whole picture becomes blurred and pixelated makes it difficult to see where I paint.

The old edge tool refine had no these problems, well that simplest, it was more robust than that.

Show original Brigitte as this seems to be a new problem and it will help if we can reproduce it. You get a progression model sometimes with JPEG files as the tool resumes the compression checkerboard pattern, but you seem to use psd? Your Mac and you can't trust the drivers of graphics cards unfortunately more, but I do not conclude that, right now, with this tool, they are certainly has problems with that affects other people.

  • Select and mask | Problems with the selection in the process of disappearance - CC 2015.5

    Hi all!

I've just updated Photoshop 2015.5 CC version.

I am currently working on a design that needs cutting contours.

So I picked all the areas belonging to the background of the image and then click on the "select and mask" to refine the edges and then clear my selection as I usually did.

    But instead, my selection disappeared...

    My steps were:

    1. Selection of the areas to clear with "themagic wand tool.
    2. Click on 'select and mask' (output parameters: output to the selection).
    3. Click on 'OK'.
    4. Selection has disappeared!

I have provided all the tools to their default settings, but nothing has changed.

I tried to close and reopen the case, repeat the steps to delete the background, but I always feel the question.

It is a big problem for me!

I hope that there is someone who could help me/us with this!

    Best,

    Joanna

I actually asked the new workspace me first thing after update, because I wasn't getting.  It's different enough that you need to learn everywhere, I'm afraid, but it is definitely an improvement when you become familiar with it.  See Julianne Kost guide below, but I suspect that you may need to adjust the sliders that control the opacity of the background.  Or simply click on the transparent part to start the selection.

It is possible to select several masks by double-clicking on them? I can do it with a mask but I'm not sure how to combine the selection with other masks.
I should just do it manually by selecting each layer masks in the layers panel?

    Thank you

    1. Place the pen tool
    2. Select a single vertex on one of your masks
    3. Press and hold the key Cmnd/Ctrl - cursor turns into a white arrow
    4. With the key Cmnd/Dtrl maintained key click and drag around all the points of all masks
    5. Holding the key Cmnd/Ctrl double-click on any vertex

You can also hold down shift to select several points, or you can select a point on a mask and another on a double then other innovations cliick and transform these two points. You can also reveal your masks in the timeline panel and drag a selection around each of them, and then double-click.

I'm sick and tired of having to drag the vertices of their former position (i.e. the previous image).      I want to place the point still ONCE in each image without him create a new mask.

Is there a plugin for that?

Alternatively, someone I would be written?

If I understand the problem, you want to be able to redefine the vertex of a mask points by clicking directly on a new location, rather than dragging the existing vertex point...?

Unfortunately, they don't work that way.  But you can work around it by creating a new mask on each image (which allows you to click on the new vertex points each time) and then cut and paste the mask shape keyframe of a mask in the other.  But it's potentially much slower than just move the points.
