Settings of CPU and memory of reserve on the virtual machine running...
Hello.
I have two virtual machines in production with CPU and memory settings of reservation applied as shown below. I want to adjust these settings of reservation to "zero" for the CPU and memory on both virtual machines.
I can make these adjustments while VMS are running, or do I need to power their first?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you!
Welcome to the community,
Booking of resources being completely transparent for the customer, i.e. a host function, there is no need to turn off the virtual machines. Basically all settings in are available to be changed in the editable GUI generally without interruption of service comments.

List of Cluster and the virtual machines running on this group
Hello
I am looking for a way to discover all of the virtual machines that belong to a cluster. In other words, I want a list that maps a cluster to all virtual machines running on it.
In the documentation of the API, I find that "ClousterComputeResouce"has a managed object to "HostSystem" reference. "
And "HostSystem" is a reference to managed object to the 'VirtualMachine'.
So I can do it like this: ClusterComputeResource-> ManagedObjectRefence-> ManagedObjectRefence (VirtualMachine)-> whatever_properties_I_need_from_the_VM (HostSystem).
However, this would cause a lot of ' Vim::get_views"calls within a"foreach"loop." It would be a deterrent to performance as the vCetner in question has ~ 50 clusters and has ~ 3500 running VMs.
I think this was going to literally kill the VirtualCenter with so many API calls.
My Question: is there an effective way to find Cluster and their respective VMs in vSphere SDK Perl.
In vSphere client, we get the tab 'Virtual Machine' when we click on the Cluster and you can see all the virtual machines that belong to this cluster. So I hope that there must be an easier way.
Thank you.
Hello
You don't need the host_view for this action. Why don't you use begin_entity for views of the vm?
my $cluster = 'cluster1. "
My $cluster_view = Vim::find_entity_view (view_type-online 'ClusterComputeResource',
filter => {"name"-online qr / ^ $cluster / I});
{if ($cluster_view)}
My $vm_views = Vim::find_entity_views (view_type-online 'VirtualMachine',begin_entity => $cluster_view.
Properties-online ['name']);
foreach {$vm_ref(@$vm_views) my
print $vm_ref--> name. » \n » ;
}
}Hope that helps!

Reservations on each virtual machine
Why is it a bad idea to have reserves of CPU and memory on each virtual machine in a cluster? I'm trying to find more information. This is a good answer. I would be grateful if anyone can provide additional information on this topic.
Setting memory reservation affect the virtual machine and its surroundings. Definition of reservation by virtual computer is not recommended; It is advisable to create pools of resources instead of by M V reservations. Reservations of setting at a granular level leads to an increase in administrative costs and operational overhead. But when the situation requires to use a booking of VM, how a reservation is adjustable to ensure performance as well as possible without losing the physical memory and also less impact as possible. The answer: define a reservation equal to use memory average of VMS comments.
Pasted from <http://frankdenneman.nl/2009/12/08/impact-of-memory-reservation/>
Reservation on each machine virtual is a bad idea because you are guaranteeing resources to guest, regardless of usage.
For example. You guarantee 4 GB of RAM to a virtual computer, but using only 2 GB, 2 GB of physical RAM that could be used by other virtual machines running in this case you lose.
It's a good idea in case you know the use of the virtual machine is high and it would take resources guaranteed to continue to work effectively

Hi, I used Windows Virtual PC XP mode for awhile and I just do a fresh install, and I'm having a problem that I seem not to be able to solve.
After you enable the integration features, I got to the Windows Security login screen. I typed in the login and the password, but I accidentally made a mistake and could not connect. I clicked on cancel and was then in the XP login screen, where I entered then the right login and password and it me connected to the virtual machine XP without problem.
Now, the problem I have is every time I connect to computer virtual it asks me the login and the password on the login screen of XP and I don't have the option to connect using the login Windows Security screen, so it do not give me an option to save my password and login information. So, to make things worse is that moment every time I have to resize the virtual pc it then asks me to log in again.
Is it possible to return me to the Windows security login screen where can I put my login instead of the XP login screen when it is not an option?
Hi Richard,
The question you posted would be better suited in the TechNet Forums. I would recommend posting your query in the TechNet Forums.

script to check my current reserves of CPU and memory on the service console
Hello
I'm looking for a script to check that reserve is currently, we are running out of problems with vRanger connection, just need to make sure we have all the cpu and memory to the correct value.
found a few scripts to change, that we guys do you use?
Thank you
The script required PowerShell v2.
Try this if you use PowerShell v1.
filter Get-ConsoleResource{ param( $entity ) begin{ $result = $null } process{ if($_.Key -eq "host/vim/console"){ $_ } if($_.Child){ $_.Child | Get-ConsoleResource } } end{ } } Get-View -ViewType HostSystem | %{ $esx = $_ $_.SystemResources.Child | Get-ConsoleResource | Select @{N="Name";E={$esx.Name}}, @{N="Console Reservation CPU MHz";E={$_.Config.CpuAllocation.reservation}}, @{N="Console Reservation Memory MB";E={$_.Config.MemoryAllocation.reservation}} }

Window Media Player.exe using 100% of CPU and memory
I have a Pavilion dv4-2145-dx Windows 7 Ultimate SP1, 4 GB of memory. Windows Media Player.exe supports my CPU 100% usage and it is striking all my memory - 4 GB. It started right after I set up a homegroup.
I had to go into Admin/service and change the Startup Type to disabled for:
- Windows Media Center Receiver Service
- The window media services planning service
- Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service
I tried setting services to manual, but Windows Media Player has yet caught all the CPU and memory, he could then I disabled all the.
I do not know how to disable homegroup and Windows Media Player services work together so I wonder if everything is always operate has designed with the homegroup and sharing my music.
Hello
I think this explains the problem. The 2 entries here should be deleted, because the first will try to index all of your user profile and the second will attempt to index all of the Windows Partition.
C:\Users\Rick
C:\
To remove them, click to the left of the entrance, highlight it, and then click Remove. When these two entries have been removed, reboot the laptop and you should find that the problem has been resolved.
Kind regards

Free version of 5.5 (CPU and memory limits)
Hello
Is there a limit CPU and memory if I run the free version of 5.5? I remember that there is a limitation of a socket (CPU), but am not sure, maybe it was the old version.
Thanks in advance.
TT
If I'm mistaken, the only limitation with the free 5.5 ESXi hypervisor is the 8 vCPU maximum of VMS and the restrictions for hardware virtual version 9 (5.1 compatibility) with the vSphere Client. Previous versions had all kinds of different limitations, like carrots by socket, physical memory,..., but that all left with the current version.

Crescent of cpu and memory under windows 2003
Hello
I have a windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 virtual machine with 1 cpu and 4 GB of memory.
Can I increase cpu 1 to 4
In the past, I've increased cpu 2 to 4 on similar without any problem, but not sure machines ranging from 1 to 4 cpu
In the past, take action:
Turn off the virtual machine
Take snpshot
increase the number of cpu 2 to 4
increase of 2 to 4 GB memory
Start the virtual machine
Check Device Manager to make sure that the additional processors are visible
Check the additional memory is visible
Remove the snapshot
Instant return if the process fails
What also vmware WARNING "change the number of CPUs after the guest OS was isntalled can make your virtual machine unstable."
Thank you
Hello
I did this operation, hundreds of times, no problems at all. Problem may occur when you reduce several CPU single-processor. Going from simple to several CPU no problem at all. Of course good to have a clone\snapsot of virtual machine before you make any change :-)

Hello.
I'll try the new features of vSphere and have a double with the addition of a CPU or memory to a virtual machine while it is running.
First of all, Microsoft said that only the data center itanium editions and supports the addition of hot CPU, but I found some forums who say they did the test with other editions as standard or enterprice, is this posible?
http://www.Microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/us/R2-compare-specs.aspx
http://www.Microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/evaluation/features/comparefeatures.mspx
I tried with a windows server 2008 standard x 64 and when I added a CPU Device Manager shows me 2 CPUs, but the Task Manager doesn't show one and when I added to that memory, the Task Manager shows no change, but Device Manager shows the new memory module with an alert.
When I restart the virtual machine to the new hardware configuration worked well.
If windows does not support hot branch of CPU and memory in the data center and itanium editions, why is the option available (when we edit a virtual machine) for other editions as standard?
Thank you...
Here is a good list which has been implemented and seems to be fairly well validated. But the result is, it has windows and a restart could never hurt.

Limitation of the Virtual Machine's CPU/memory resources.
Hello
My question on the tab "resources" with VMachine settings (I hope I picked the right branch here)
In this tab I put a booking/Limit for CPU/memory for current VMachine.
I have a cluster about 6 ESX servers with resource by default and a VMachine inside pool. VMachine have 1 CPU. Each ESX have 2 plugs with 4 core per socket. Each base equal to 2, 83GHz. Def.
In this case, which by default configuration for an average CPU for this VMachine limitaion - 132582 MHz? Because in practice ESX server can give only 1 CPU for this VMachine and this CPU will have 2, 83GHz only...
Also, I put 100% of CPU - 132582 MHz booking here... But in true VMachine will never receive this resource...
Same question about limitation of memory...
When this limitation will work? For what porpose such booking/limitaion here?
Re: But, if I'm going to make a mistake and this CPU for VM value reserve, which is more physical limitation - it reduces resources processor for other VMs on a value that is more than the physical limitation of the virtual computer?
No, the reservation only guarantees that if a virtual machine wants to take a large part of the resource at a given time VMware should give him. If there is ever going to be a situation where the virtual machine is in fact to consider that much so it never gets allocated to this virtual machine and the amount of the resource remains available for other virtual machines to use. Similarly, if the virtual machine just does not use the amount of the booking to a point in time, he let this resource can be used by other virtual machines.
If a virtual computer uses only 1 GHz on a core 3 GHz system, at a given time but thereservation is 2.5 GHz, 1.5 GHz between its use and booking that is not used at this time is available for other VMS to use. That is only if there is a period of contention between VM and VM CPU wishing to use mean 2.8 GHz it would be guaranteed to get 2.5 GHz independently of the parameters of the actions on the VM from other virtual machines.
It is essentially the same thing with memory except that the memory usage is not as CPU flunctuate and VMware must also use more complex methods to reallocate the memory, but the leaders of the way in which it is shared using actions, reservations and limit is the same.
