Several icons of folders are empty

My Windows 7 computer was recently fried by a storm, so when I bought a new computer, I had Windows 8 and installed my backup. Now, many of the icons of folders and files have gone. I can still access the files, but file of 'outside' icons just software shows empty rectangles. ((specify "outside" because I read lots of questions here and it's not Windows icons that are not - this is another software.) Would be very happy to help.

Thank you!

I found the answer. The icons that were missing were external software. I had to open the properties of the individual files and assign them to the software, and the icons appeared for all similar files on my computer. One application was only on the Windows application screen, so I had to re - download this software as a software Windows 7 so it would directly save on my desktop (rather than the Windows screen) and then these icons appeared too.

I'm not a fan of Windows 8 at this stage.
Thank you for your help. Perhaps at the moment where I get it all realized a new version will be released. Laughing out loud!!

I had shared a few albums that have since been cancelled.  I don't know that I've screwed something when I deleted the files.

The original always show with pictures in it, but not on my phone. On my phone, the name of the album is there, but it is empty.  On the Photos, they have pictures in them, but the name of these albums look like this: set MBR (1), etc.  I noticed that on iCloud, everything is OK.  I tried to remove the (1), but it just POPs back.  Also leave Photos, cache cleared on Safari (quit it), made soft reset on iPhone and synced from iTunes. I have attached 2 photos: App Photos and iPhone.  I'm running the latest versions of IOS and El Capitan.  Thanks for your help

Try to rename albums on iCloud.com. Name changes must flow down to your devices.

  • How can I recover the files and programs before a system restore? my document folders are all empty and my programs will not open!

How can I recover the files and programs before a system restore?  my document folders are all empty and my programs will not open!

I know they are there and hidden somewhere, but this restoration took my settings of the computer to 2004! We lost all our data, our software that we use to operate our company at home, our quickbooks that has all our financial data, family photos, videos, Outlook will work not so no e-mail, all turned in time and 6 years ' worth of documents have disappeared.

What happeneded was that I was trying to upgrade to quickbooks software when I got an error, I cancelled out of the facility, then restarted and that's when I got an error hal.dll something? I thought about a system restore would allow me to go back in time to just before when the error occurred, but he basically took my computer back to factory settings, so all the programs that I installed and paid hundreds of dollars for the past six years has disappeared, Microsoft Office and very expensive construction estimating software that we wil have to pay once AGAIN for If I can't get this program working properly.

    I am a fool! I can't believe what's happening.

Someone at - it instructions on how I can retrieve either the programs and data that I need specifically or how to go and seek shade from the files I read online on and restore my computer for about 12 hours ago?

    Thank you all!

    Sally in Georgia

Looks like you did a system rather than a system restore recovery.  If you have inserted a disc supplied with your machine and booted from it, you probably erased the disc and installed the original operating system provided with your computer.  Usually, a step in this recovery is to do a full format or quick of your drive.  If you did a full format, your data is permanently lost.  With a quick format, your data may still be there, somewhere but inaccessible by normal means.  Applications must generally be installed, in order to recover the files probably will not help unless you have the original installation media.  Your other data files (images, videos, financial data) may be salvageable, but at this point, it would be advisable to take your computer or your disk to a business/professional who is experienced with data disc recovery.  It will be cheap and there is no guarantee.

Impatient, remember investigate you a backup strategy for your computer and critical data.  Hard drives can go wrong with little or no warning.

  • I have numerious files on my drive 'C' which are empty. These folders can be deleted safely?

I have many files on my drive 'C' which are empty and I want if I can delete these folders without harming my computer?

For example, in C, I have an empty folder called Config.Msi.

Another folder called perflogs folder with empty named Admin.
Also under perflogs folder a subfolder called Diagnostics with you I have subfolders under him and one of the files is empty.  each subfolder begins with a date, then a-0002, 0003, 0004 (it is empty).
Under Program Files, I have a folder called MSXML 4.0 and it is empty.

There are a few empty folders and subfolders.  If they are not needed I see no point in keeping it in particular it it slows down my computer.

Any help or insight will be appreciated.  I'm not very computer savy, but have a bit of knowledge.

    Hi Louise,.

The files you mentioned are used by system files and processes for various reasons. These folders are hidden by default.

CONFIG. MSI folder is a folder hidden on the drive root Windows, usually C drive. The folder is used by the Windows Installer process during the installation of the software.

Essentially the CONFIG. MSI file contains backups of files that are installed or updated during a program installation. A success, this folder and files are deleted automatically. However, sometimes the installation program is unable to delete these files. In this case, you can safely remove the CONFIG. MSI file and the files on your hard drive.

All of these folders you see are file system created and I would leave him alone.

You can run Disk Cleanup to delete temporary files on the computer.

  • Kensington Trackballworks sometimes has several icons in the tray system, exposed behavior, it is as if one or more mouse buttons are kept pressed when they are in fact not to be affected

Original title: Kensington Trackballworks sometimes has several icons in the system tray

Every so often from the start (no apparent reason) multiple Kensington TrackallWorks icons appear in the system tray and the unit behaves erratically until all but one of them are closed. Behavior exhibited, it is as if one or more mouse buttons are kept pressed when they are in fact not to be affected. I use a Kensington Expert Mouse and TrackballWorks 1.04 K64325 model number. Uninstall and reinstall the driver didn't help, or does uninstalling and reinstalling Windows.

I checked with MSCONFIG, Autoruns and even when several copies work they show only one entry for the application. Any ideas /.

    Hello

Since you've already tried to uninstall and reinstall the driver/windows, this could be a hardware problem. Please try to contact the manufacturer of the mouse for assistance on this issue.

    too many of them?

    Thank you

    Hello

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Community.
The folder is empty, but in fact, it contains the hidden files and folders. Files and folders are created and used by various applications. But, if you are sure that there are no file or folder even if you enable the display of the hidden files and folders, with the files and system files, (it's very unlikely, but it is likely), you can delete the folder, but pointed out that the folder will be created again.
Folder names you mentioned are created by various applications. As mentioned above, their removal will prevent dependent applications to work properly.

  • 35.0.1 updated and now my tabs are empty and I can't customize toolbars. Help, please and thank you.

After the update, at the launch of Firefox, I can see the tabs, but the tabs are empty. I tried to remove preferences, uninstalling and do a fresh install and get the same result. I even tried to install the nightly build to see if it was a problem with 35 - problem was still there. I can also access the function 'customize' for the toolbars. I have several add ons, so one of them could be the problem?

    Thanks in advance.

Yes, an add-on could cause that.
