Size of the file - best practices

I am putting together my first iPad app DPS and looking for a few tips to keep the manageable file size.

I did a quick project about 6 pages and it came as a huge 28 MB. My document end will be about 100 pages (x 2 for directions)

I really did nothing to try to reduce the size of the files in the project, I used PSD images with layers and not a not resize to 1024 x 768. Same thing with any jpg I used. I should do? Also, I did not bother to check if the image was CMYK or RGB. Basicially, I was working on the assumption that the images would be optimized in the process.

I created the files using JPG because I wanted to use the content viewer Desktop and I get PDF's will help with the size of the file. But that will make a big difference?

Is the largest part of this DPS overload just 28Mo or will it increase proportionally I've added pages?

You are looking for just best practices.

Thank you

Brian

A few tips:

(1) we will be re-sample images to the right size, so don't worry if your sourc eimages are bigger they must do.

2) publish as PDF. This will make a big difference if you have a lot of text content.

(3) not to publish two orientations. While we do support the feature, this means you have to do twice the work of layout and the size of the file is quite a bit larger. Choose an orientation that works best for your content, and stick with that. The vast majority of our publishers only portrait or landscape, not both.

  • the size of the file to view & share

    Hi all.

We have a SnS system version 5.2. When trying to load a video over 2 Gig we get the file is big to download. But in the documentation, I read that there is no limit to the size of the file, but obviously this is not correct. The question is if there are some settings that you can modify to change the maximum size of uploaded files?

    Hello

It is a known limit referenced in the release notes for DMS 5.2.1.

    Description:

Using the local file option to add a multimedia resource that is greater than 2G causes the download

    menu to remain open indefinitely.

    Work around:

None. This is a limitation of browser. We recommend that you download a file that is less than 2G

and you are using an external server for large files.

    On a side note:

For a video file 2 GB or higher, depending on how the video was encoded, it

organizations have implemented a best practice segment videos down to a large part

little longer.  Cisco recommends video durations of no more than 20 minutes

due to the attention span of the end user.

  • Try to reduce the size of the file of my opening a flash site page

I use the Flash CS4 IDE, and the first page of my site takes more time to load I want that there.  So I tried to go through the various images / symbols / movie clips / sounds and so on to see where all the memory is be chewed.

When I go into my library, however, I can see the name, the binding, the usecound and the Type of my items, but no mention of the size of the file and I can't seem to find that a right-click menu that allows me to add the size of the file to the list of the details shown.

Is there a way to see the size of the file?  Or a workaround?

And are there best practices to reduce the size of the file except using symbols for everything that is used more than once and reduce the image and sound quality?

    Thank you

Click file/publish/flash settings and check the box generate size report.  publish.  you will get a debug report in your publish directory that you can check.

My pdf file is too large to email.  How can I reduce the size of the file once the PDF file is saved?

Emailing is not the best way to share PDF files, especially if they are large. Transfer to one of the free services such as Dropbox and send the URL of the file.

  • How can I reduce the size of the file when you save a psd in pdf format

I have a psd with graphics and text, it is 8.5 x 11, 300 dpi

I flatten the image and go to save as .pdf file I uncheck all options in general.

Compression, I tried a dozen different combinations and the way I found to get a document that is not pixelated or blurred is to use JPEG 2000 > lossless or jpeg > maximum.

So I have a document of high quality but the file sizes are approximately 900 KB.

I downloaded the documents of others of the exact same type and size (8.5 x 11, 300 dpi) that I have seen in Photoshop, they aren't pixelated or blurred and their file sizes are 300 KB or even less than 200 KB

    How do do that?

    Delete all layers used, invisible.

Zip compression is sometimes better than the jpg compression (in the pdf output settings). Zip is lossless and it works best with a color not degraded or not images.

Flatten the image before saving it to pdf format can reduce the size of the file, if you use the jpg compression.

See a preview of your pdf file and we can comment further on how to reduce the size of the file.

Combine files and now it is too large to send. Is there a way to reduce the size of the file converted into Adobe?

    Hi yodonna,

Adobe Reader does not reduce the size of a PDF file, such as Acrobat. But, you can download this file to your Acrobat.com account and create an anonymous link using Adobe send. Then you can send this link by e-mail. You can access Adobe send to https://cloud.acrobat.com/send. Create an anonymous link function does not require that you have an Adobe membership send.

  • Download timer estimate not updated until the file is made of 7/8, size of the file not considered and corrupt downloads!

Sometimes when I download a file of the estimator download will not update until that file is downloaded about and made. It didn't happen in the previous versions, I think somewhere around v15? or whenever the new download manager has been implemented.

Another problem is that the size of the file is unknown until mainly downloaded.
    (a.k.a. "calculation of the remaining time - x MB 103 MB (132 KB/s)")
didn't matter what Internet connection I use, can not repeat on a local network download.
Sometimes, I don't get on the servers really really really really really fast.

Oh, and don't forget corrupt downloads!
file will download as usual, but smaller than the total size who said that the Web site or the list dialog confirmation boxing. Download complete report manager!
Ending up with a zip file or other file that will not open or run.

No antivirus software, I run clean, safe and vigilant.

I managed to get photos, take a look.

I use an extension to go back the look, feel and function of the old Download Manager, but it still isn't correct in new download manager.

but as has been said elsewhere, I'm probably going to create a new profile so I hope that this will disappear when I finally get around to that?

  • How can I stop the automatic downloading of exe files before you see the size of the file?

When I click on a link of file (for example "setup.exe" or "Setup.zip") of a Web site, on what it asks you where I save the file and indicates the size of the file, but the download has already started in the background before I clicked Save. I have a fast enough connection but limited download allowance if the file is large, I'll cancel it, but a few MB can be downloaded until I can stop it. If I use just click on - > "save link as...» ' then he does not start downloading until I click Save but it don't tell me the file size, I also changed settings of early reading, which did not solve the problem.

You will need to use an external Download Manager that supports this feature.

You can use the FlashGot extension to integrate an external Download Manager in Firefox.

  • I want to view the properties of folders of files and the size of the files used on the right by clicking on them and the properties of the workstation to see the disk space used. __

I have trouble finding the disk space used by files and folders individually and when I try to know how much is consumed and free by right click on my computer.  This was easy in XP, but I can't get the answers I need to analyze which uses space, where and how.  What is happening with this?

    Hi NativeLegal Eagle,

Usually, right-click on the file or folder and clicking the properties option will give the details of the file or folder. The details include, type, size, location, size of the file on the disc etc.

Make a right click on my computer will not give the details of available disk space on the computer.

If you want to know the amount of space consumed by a program, then it can be found in the Add/Remove Programs window.
    a. Click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl, and then click ok.
    b. in the list, we can find the total space used by individual program running on the computer.

  • How to reduce the size of the file

I am trying to efax a file and it says the file is too large.  is there a way to reduce the size of the file?

Depending on the type of file, it may be possible to compress but I don't know if it will work with an efax (but I guess it's worth a try).  Here's how: http://maximumpcguides.com/windows-vista/compress-and-uncompress-a-folder-or-file-in-windows-vista/.

Another option also according to the type of file is to convert the file to a different file type which takes less space (such as the conversion of a TIFF file in a JPG file).  It isn't exactly the same thing (the image quality is not quite as good, but rarely can anyone tell the difference.

Another option is to split the file into several separate files that are small enough to work and send them separately and ask the recipient to back move or treat the separate transmissions if it's just a matter of sending a few pages at a time instead of all of them at once.

These are really the only ways to resolve the problem (other than to find another e-fax provider that accepts larger files).

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!
