Slow MacBook

I'm running the late capitan on my macbook 2008 aliminuim, it is very slow and before every action, I get the little wheel until appears normal, I tried to reboot in safe mode and repair disks in disk utility, but it takes forever, ideally, I would like to reinstall, but don't know if I'm confident enough to do , I read on here for years ago when capitan come out first of all that you can do something else on which solved start the issuebut do not remember

How can I do to speed up my mac and what is causing these processes use so much CPU?

Also - it says on the bottom right of my activity monitor "process: 192" Wow is not much?

  • Slow MacBook Pro

Hi, I have an Early 2011 MacBook Pro that has been very slow in the past two years. The computer is still usable and I use it every day, but I want to fix the problem.

I thought that this could be a RAM problem, so I bought new Rams from different brands, but none of them worked (I read online that Apple computers can be a little picky when it comes to brands of RAM).

I am currently based in the Dominican Republic, where it is very difficult to find an Apple Retail Store or a person capable and authorized to perform a repair on my MacBook Pro. I'll be back in Italy in October, and I'll get assistance here. My question is: I think that my computer needs new RAM (I currently have installed 2x2gb and I would install 2 x 4 GB), but it is possible that there is something else I need to know? Maybe the problem somewhere else? I scanned the computer several times and nothing came. I would like to know if there is a way for me to make sure that the RAM is the real problem and not something else. I know that I am the owner of an old computer, but it never gave me any problems in addition to be very slow in the past two years. Sometimes it works perfectly, and sometimes it's almost impossible to do anything.

I enclose the screenshots that can be useful. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you

  • More slow Macbook Air?

    Hey all,.

Thought I would get outside help. Recently, my Macbook Air has taken a long time to load things. Loading pages in Google Chrome sometimes takes awhile, and other applications may be slower. The beach ball has been appearing more frequently. I used Etrecheck to see if you can help me. Let me know if I need to provide more information. I have already uninstalled and reinstalled Chrome. I also uninstalled Adobe Reader as I recently installed. I've just updated for the last OS system as well.

  • Unbelivably slow MacBook Pro - help very appreciated.

    Hello!

First of all, I want to thank you all for the amount of time you have helped me sort my MacBook Pro in the past. As a lurker for a long time, I really appreciate the solutions that you have posted on this forum.

Unfortunately, my current problem has forced me to create an account to ask directly for your help!

I currently hold a * 13 inch MacBook Pro (Non-retine) mid-2012 (MacBook Pro9, 2), 16 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD * that runs OSX 10.11.5. It runs incredibly slow - it took me 20 seconds to open chrome and it shifted 10 seconds when I typed "Apple." I have no background applications running and the CPU usage is about 10%, RAM usage is only 2-3 GB.

There are several things I've tried:

    • Back-Up my SSD and erase it entirely
    • Reinstall the OSX. Because it is a MBP 2012, he has returned to the Mountain Lion, which was still slow.
    • Updated to Yosemite OSX. Still slow.
    • Upgrade to OSX El Capitan 10.11.3, then OSX 10.11.4 and currently OSX 10.11.5.
    • I ran a complete test of material (in D now after starting MBP) - came out with "No problems Found".
    • Reset PRAM and SRAM
    • Thought it might be the star of indexing time so just let it sit on for 24 hours
    • Tried to restore from a backup Time Machine when the laptop works well
    • Erased from the new laptop and repeated OSX upgrade steps
    • It was Safari that could be the cause, so I deleted the files in Safari from the folder "Cache" and "Preferences".

I apologize in advance if I have a few obvious things, please let me know. Thank you in advance for your help!

  • Slow MacBook, doc Pages opens on the black window, other weird stuff...

I don't know if my hard drive crashes, or if the path that serves as my MacBook is due to newly installed El Capitan.

Computer is very slow. Restarted mode without failure. Windows always strange popping up and slow. Restarted regularly, always slow. A lot of beach balls.

Very slow to open pages. Screen turned white completely for a few seconds - not office, nothing. Office returns. Then the message saying creative cloud is damaged or missing. Several beach balls. Then the black boxes appear; do not even have red, yellow, green points in top left and Pages menu appears. Opens a new window without title Pages (but I select new menu). Clicked on file Pages - it opens on a white box, but the content is missing.

Please advise as to what is happening and what I have to do.  Thank you

Run EtreCheck and post the report here.

  • Slow MacBook - new processors? El Capitan? Recycling?

    Hello

My 2009 MacBook is running on Mavericks 10.9.5. Last year, he got slower and slower. Multitasking is more one of its strong! I talked to three different people in 3 different Apple stores over the past 18 months, and it's recommendations:

    (1) store UK: "buy and install more RAM. Apple can do it, but it's half the price to get it online and install it yourself' (not really something I want to do).

    (2) store UK: "Apple will install more RAM and it is risky to do it yourself. Best to run some things of diagnosis. Has shown how to do this on my MacBook - then took home and followed the instructions but it does not work properly. Error message. Waste of time.

    (3) store in New York: "Apple moved no more RAM, but there is a Manhattan Apple authorized repair shop down on X - Street which will be".

Now to return to the United Kingdom. Not had time when in New York. And everyone (Apple staff) has a different opinion on whether or not I should go to El Capitan. It seems that Apple updates alone my MacBook seems to be able to review is now an upgrade to El Capitan (and iTunes). No security updates etc. showed in several months. (Meanwhile iTunes just gets worse! "It's really horrible, horrible software now!)

So, my MacBook is simply too old and too tired? Any suggestion would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

    4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 memory

'Your Mac contains 2 memory slots, which each accept a DDR3 1067 MHz memory bar' (illustration shows two boxes; each says "2 GB"].)

    Apparently "4 GB" installed.

Hard drive 320 Go - 92 GB still available.

For your information, additional RAM installation in a 2009 MBP, it's easy.  The instructions are in your user manual.

  • Very slow Macbook Pro 13 inch Mid 2012

Hello world! I'm not savvy at all, so my apologies if something is not clear in my message below.

    Data sheet:

    MacBook Pro 13 inch (mid-2012)

    OS X Yosemite: Version 10.10.5

Processor: Intel Core i5 2.5 GHz

    Memory: 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Storage: 139.3/499.25 GB in use; 359,95 GB free

For the last two weeks, my Macbook Pro 13 inch (mid-2012) has been extremely slow. The colorful beachball (aka the wheel of death) often shows up, even when I'm just trying to type something, such as now (I'll have to type really slowly, so it can track). This slowness came very suddenly.

I tried resetting SMC/NVRAM, repair disk permissions, then by restarting in safe mode, but the problem persists (I also tried to upgrade to El Capitan, but was met with a loop of reboot delicious and recovered my time machine backup again to the recovery mode). I think I can also try to reindex spotlight, but I may or may not succeed.

I was not able to create a Time Machine backup successfully for the last month, because it gets stuck on "preparing for backup...". "(not sure if this could be related). I also wanted to point out that Dropbox is one of my startup items, but I got it for centuries, and it has never been my Macbook it ridiculously slow. Before this slowness, I would leave it and my Macbook would be back up to speed. I also tried to remove the list of startup items and slowness persists even after rebooting.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is particularly bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.

These must be run as administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.

Run the Console application in one of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first letters of his name in a Spotlight search. Select from the results (it should be at the top).

☞ In the Finder, select go utilities ▹ of menu bar or press the combination of keys shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

The title of the Console window should be all Messages. If it isn't, select

SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ all Messages

in the list of logs on the left. If you don't see this list, select

List of newspapers seen ▹ display

in the menu at the top of the screen bar.

Each message in the journal begins with the date and time when it was entered. Highlight date back to the time you noted above.

Select the messages entered since then until the end of the episode, or until they begin to repeat, whichever comes first.

Copy messages to the Clipboard by pressing Control-C key combination. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command + V.

The journal contains a large amount of information, almost all this is useless to solve any particular problem. When you post a journal excerpt, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

Please don't dump blindly thousands of lines in the journal in this discussion.

Please do not post screenshots of log messages - text poster.

Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • Unusually slow MacBook pro, as well as problems with power.

I'm looking for help on setting my Mac, any help from anyone would be great!

Recently, my MacBook Pro (running El Capitan) at the end of 2013 model started running really slow unawares (before that it was perfect). No hardware or software, changes began to really randomly goes slowly. My mac has always very well maintained, regular clean ups of junk, utility to check disk done often, no useless apps or data.

Other questions, I'll have with power up the mac off is when I press the power button to turn off it starts then a few turns (don't not even to Apple to loading off-screen, shines the screen but then powers), I have to hold the power button for 10 seconds approximately to get power properly, when I close the lid without turning off then open it I went to the login screen instantly but then close the book Mac downs completely.

I ran the Apple Diagnostics, no problem. I also ran repair disk utility, no change. I even did a clean install of the operating system and there was a very minor change, but always far make the level it's at.

    Thank you

A slow Mac may be due to not enough available storage space.

Click on your Apple  menu at the top left of your screen.

In the menu drop down click on about this Mac , and then select the storage tab.

Your Mac is the bare minimum needs 8 GB of storage available just for the operating system not to mention all your personal data.

  • All of a sudden c. slow Macbook Pro mid 2012

    Hello

A few days ago, my MacBook Pro (13-inch, mid 2012) began to slow all of a sudden, often due to frequent beachballing of the cursor. I've had it three years now, and he never ran so slow. Basic functions same as open a web browser or the Finder be slow and difficult, with the municipality of beachballing. After running an EtreCheck on the laptop, he identified the performance than the poor and who have been having problems with the RAM. I could really do with some expert advice on how to solve this problem, and any help will be received with joy.

    Problem: Beachballing

    Description:

Very suddenly, my Macbook Pro (mid-2012, 13 inches) has begun to slow down, with the beachball cursor popping up whenever I try to do the same basic functions, access to a web browser, at the opening of a program. I do not understand why this has happened so suddenly and what is the cause.

So it seems that you need to develop your ram on this model because your running a lot of things at once, or the system is spent as you have used. Its pretty easy to install new ram on your template as well.

Your computer can be upgraded to 16 GB of ram on this model. There are several kits out there to buy for this as well with. Let me know if you need help.

  • EtreCheck on slow macbook pro pls HELP!

Hi - I made a clean of El Capitan installation after that I erased everything on my macbook, because of the amount of waste for 3 years. But now he runs even slower that before I erased everything. And he constantly beachballing and freezer a lot since the clean install. PS. I also got El Capitan 10.11.2 before but now its 10.11.3 if it has something to say.

Someone from the community suggested that an EtreCheck was a good idea to tell if there is a problem. If anyone can help me with what's going on?

MDworker is the job that creates the Spotlight index.

I wondered if the part of the question with Yosemite and El Capitan is slow after upgrade is all that reindexing.

Menu utilities - activity monitory - check the MDS and the MDworker to see if they show great use of CPU.

  • So slow MacBook for about 10-15 minutes then better

    I have a late 2008 Macbook, CPU Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 Ghz, memory 2 GB 1067 MHz DDR3, NVIDIA GeForce 9400 M 256 MB graphics card

Recently updated to the Version OS X El Capitan 10.11.2 - but was the problem before, so I don't think its caused by the latest operating system.

It's so slow whenever he wakes up first, and I try to do things, mail, surfing etc - rotation beach ball again and again.  Then after that I'm down for awhile it seems free without all them hang up and gal - any ideas on what I can do to fix this?

The first thing that strikes me is that you have need of more memory. 2 GB is not enough for El Capitan. When waking from sleep, you reload any launch officers you have installed. And if you have a hard drive to sleep in system preferences energy, which will also slow things down initially.

  • Very slow MacBook with el capitan

given that I've upgraded to el capitan my macbook is very slow.

For example, in the calendar: passage from one day to the other takes about 4 seconds and the spinning wheel is displayed before jumping on the selected date

    etrecheck seems OK to me

I planned to return to the Mavericks already

I don't have any idea more

PS my Macbook is mid-2010, 8 GB of RAM and I often work with virtualbox using about 3 GB of 8 GB of RAM

You say EtreCheck looks right to you, but maybe someone else can see something you overlooked.  Could you copy the status report and paste it here please?

  • Slow MacBook after updating to mac os sierra

Mac book is very slow after updating to mac os sierra. I try to open an app and its very slow, or finder

    How can I fix it?

I already rebooted it but no luck

I have a mac book pro end 2011 version 10.12

Back up your Mac if you have not already done so. Read https://www.apple.com/support/backup/to learn how to do this please. To learn how to use Time Machine read to use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac.

Then, shut down your Mac and restart in 'Safe Mode '. To learn how to do it please read: try safe mode if your Mac does not start-up. Compare works your Mac in Mode for how safe it was.

Then restart normally. If the same problem comes back, please read the section If a problem does not occur in safe mode for actions recommended to Apple.

Finally, you can temporarily create a new user account and log into this account to determine if the problem also exists when connected to this account. To learn how to do read how test a question in another account on your Mac - Apple Support. When you are finished troubleshooting, you can remove the temporary user account by following these instructions: OS X El Capitan: remove a user. Before you delete, confirm that you have not need of all the files that you have possibly set in this account.

Let me know what you decide.
