Smart insights

By mistake I have intelligent views enabled in the downloads. How do I turn it off? How do I turn it on (so I won't

"It's once again).

"Downloads"?

Do you mean when you import pictures? There is a box on the right that says: 'Building smart surveys', simply uncheck him.

Or "downloads" mean something else? (Please specify)

  • Lost all my smart insights.  How can I restore and prevent it happening again.

Last week, I built a few thousand smart insights and original moved off computer.  I had edited many of intelligent previews through Sunday, February 7.  The next morning, not one of these thousands of intelligent previews I created could be seen one of my many files.  The only file of intelligent Preview in my Lightroom backups is from 2014, no help.

How restore them without having to rebuild them?  How can I prevent this happening again?  Thank you.

    Hi LarryJohnson,

Previews Smart never get pulled out and they are always stored in the same place exactly like your Lightroom Catalog.

Work in the same catalog for which you have created smart insights?

Go to file > open recent item > check for any other catalog which is the most recent.

What was the purpose of moving the originals out of your computer?
Even if you have intelligent insights and you left your originals, you would not be able to export images from Lightroom that the originals are disconnected.

  • Lightroom on multiple computers, external hard drive + smart insights

    Hello

I use a desktop pc and laptop (both with windows 7 and LR 5.6). I decided that the best way to work between the two was to use a disk 2 TB with all my photos and my LR catalog on that external drive. Have the catalog on the drive makes sense to me because the process to keep catalogs up-to-date on both computers seems somewhat discouraging and leaves plenty of room for operator error.

I was looking for in my import operations and 'intelligent Preview' seemed to be an interesting effort for me because there might be a time when my external drive could be left at home or inconvenient to access and I would like to have the ability to work on my photos in offline mode. However, my understanding of the smart insights is that they need to be on a local catalog on the computer. If I try to run LR without my external HDD attached it wants me to locate or choose a different catalog, which is an obvious problem, if I don't have it with me.

My question is, is it possible to use smart insights into the way that I am currently using LR? and if not, how do I remove the smart clips that I have already created?

    Thank you

    Scott

If your images and the catalog and associated files are all on the external hard drive, then you have found smart. Smart insights are nice, if you want to take a subset of size reduced with you on your laptop and you do not have the available originals. The problem with intelligent insights, is that you can not turn to Photoshop or other external editors if necessary. This work was smart insights could in some cases limit what you'd be able to do.

  • Smart insights allow me to change the keywords?

I work in the LR5.  I would like to create a catalog of previews smart to use on my laptop when traveling. (my originals is on a desktop PC in the studio)

I want to work on adding of keywords, organizing files etc. with Smart previews this trip and apply to the main (on the PC in the studio) catalog when I get back. I can do that with Smart previews... or are they useful only for working in the develop module?

Thanks in advance for any help on this

Generate intelligent insights and take their as well as your entire catalog (lrcat file just). Just copy them on a hard disk, then copy the catalog back thereafter. It's that simple.

  • Smart insights is no longer

I use Lightroom 5. I have a catalog of about 9000 images that I keep the backup up on external hard drives, I save my LR catalog after each use.  Tonight after making some changes and disconnect my hard drive, I opened to the top of LR.  Normally when I eject my HD I can view all my images through intelligent previews.  Now I have 9000 small gray boxes with exclamation points by telling them "missing file".  When I plug in my HD in all my pictures back and it looks perfectly normal.  When I look at my backup folder, I see this:Screen Shot 2015-09-08 at 11.48.31 PM.png

My smart preview file has somehow been disconnected from my catalog?  Any ideas on why this might have started?  I'm not very tech savvy, so this could very well be user error, but I been using LR since 3 edition and very comfortable with it and have never done anything like this before.

    Thank you very much!

    Hi Funke,

You can create files of intelligent Preview on request. Select the files you want intelligent insights and then click library > Previews > build intelligent Previews.

  • How to copy a catalog of external hard drive to the hard drive of the computer to use smart insights not connected to the external hard drive?

I am very new to LR5. I put LR5 in place so that my catalog and photos are on an external hard drive. I discovered that when not connected to the hard drive, LR5 can't find my catalog, therefore, I can't do any editing in intelligent insights, unless it is connected to an external hard drive. How can I fix this so that I can edit photos without being connected to an external hard drive. Is it possible to copy the catalog out of the hard disk on the computer's hard drive or I have to re-establish a new catalog using LR5? Must the catalog always be loaded onto the hard drive? Thank you in advance.

Yes that's correct. The LR catalog must be on the computer's internal drive. Then when you have smart previews activated you can change the image without going through the reader that they are connected. When you connect this drive images will be updated.

Simply COPY these 4 folders on your internal drive in a folder called Lightroom catalog that you create. Then open LR and go on the file menu point and select open catalog. Navigate to the folder you created called catalog in Lightroom and select the Lightroom Catalog.lrcat 5 file and click Open. Once restart Lightroom open change preferences, > preferences, and under the general tab, in the catalog default section make sure that "when starting to use this catalogue:" listings in the area where you copied the files. Something like Macintosh HD/Wherever, have created it this folder/that folder name/Lightroom catalog.lrcat 5.

  • LR 5 does not create smart insights

I've got together to create intelligent previews when I imported my images... nothing appear.

I have selected a few files (with available originals) and went to library > previews > create smart found... bar tast zipped in the upper left, but no previews have been created.

No idea what setting may be wrong that make this happen (or not)

    Thank you

I if a new file cat LR with some files on my laptop, then changed the name of the folder, the import worked perfectly, including the creation of intelligent insights

    Hi Tom,

Presumably, import with smart preview would have worked perfectly even if you had not changed the name of the folder (smart preview) - in the new catalog, I mean.

that is the smart-preview folder name change (or delete) is something to revive the existing catalog mechanism smart preview, if this is problem is rooted in data wonked in the said folder.

    Correct me if I'm wrong.

  • Smart insights into 2015.2.1 are useless

    Absolutely useless.

I have loaded 150 images, created intelligent previews so I could leaf through quickly through them in the module library screening and even after that, he always tries to make each file 50mp.

Smart previews is to allow basic editing when the original files are not available, for example, on an external drive disconnected. As long as the original files are available, intelligent previews will not be used.

  • Random photos build previews smart.

Says that "some smart insights were not built." When I go and try to build previews for a specific photo which has been missed gives me the same exact message. It happens to every import for a week. No model in the order of photos that it fails on that I can tell.

    Screen Shot 2016-06-11 at 4.12.11 PM.png

So basically I added to each drive even though I should have been there already. I right click on the drives I was using and click "get info". Unlocked access by clicking on the padlock at the bottom right and then added with read & write by clicking on the gear. I then applied this at all for the rest of the hard drive.

I don't understand how permissions work exactly if I can't describe why he was doing this. Let me know if this helps.

  • How should I start using smart displays a preview when I previosly did not use them?

I have used lightroom for some time now, but I've never used smart insights, so naturally I have a lot of photos on my PC. I think that I have enough space on my drives of computers to get. I would however like to get peace of mind: all my pictures are only in one place (my computer). If something were to happen to my computer and I couldn't recover photos they could be gone for good.

This is why I bought an external hard drive. I tried to learn as much as possible through tutorials on intelligent preview. I like the fact that it automatically saves the changes everywhere. But then I got to thinking: if I use smart previews the planned way is there is always only one place (external hard drive) where the pictures would be in? So if I lost the hard drive, I have the same problem. And then I could have a copy on the hard drive and original in the computer, but it would take a lot of space wouldn't it? Space isin can't issue right now, but I think that I should think about coming.

    So, to summarize:

    • I would like to have my photos on two separate computers
    • I wish that they would be automatically synchronized
    • I would use disk minimum capasity so that I won't have any space issues in the future
    • I have a PC

    Sorry for the long question.

    Hi Hekko,

Previews Smart come into use when you have your original images stored on external hard drive and the catalogue on your local computer and external hard drive is not connected to your computer at this time.

You want to have the Lightroom catalog on two different machines, as well as the original images as well?

Automatic synchronization of the images is not possible in Lightroom.

You can save a copy of the images on your local hard disks and one copy on your external drive as you did.

Or, you can keep a backup copy of your original on an online service images if you like.

  • Speed up the Lightroom like a madman to rename the files in your catalog and forcing LR to use Smart Previews

I saw this tip posted at http://www.slrlounge.com/speed-adobe-lightrooms-performance/ , and I can't believe the performance gain.

I also can't believe, that's why LR not swtch to the use of smart insights once that you have made instead of working directly with the raw file. WHY should I have to manually rename a file to LR thing in their use?

    Hi VidNoob,

Lightroom was designed in this way he would read previews smart in scenarios where the Raw files are not available.

The main advantage of having smart insights is to allow editing while travel when you don't have access to raw images or if your raw images are stored on the external hard drive and you do not want your external hard drive connected to your machine always.

For this reason, you will need to rename manually or somehow tip Lightroom for not to use raw if files you want to access the intelligent insights.

    Kind regards

  • Delete "Lightroom 5 catalog Previews.lrdata Smart?

My Lightroom folder has a 2.28 GB "Lightroom 5 catalog Previews.lrdata" file and a 10.01 GB file called "Lightroom 5 catalog Smart Previews.lrdata."

"Lightroom 5 catalog Previews.lrdata" file was created on 09/02/13 and amended on 20-11-14.

"5 Smart Previews.lrdata Lightroom Catalog" file was created on 09/03/13 and has never been amended since this date.

The last time that I imported the photos 11/14/14. I did no changes what whether from 20/11/14.

Given that the "5 Lightroom Catalog Previews.lrdata Smart" file has not changed since its inception, I wonder what, if any, it is in service. Delete would free up much of the space, so I want to do if I wouldn't lose something important.

I use PL 5.7 for Mac, in the case where that matters.

Thanks in advance for your answers.

... Previews.lrdata files (not files), are required by Lightroom and should not be deleted. I mean, they peuvent be removed if they cause problems (or they are associated with a catalog obsolete..) and they can or will be recreated, but management is to minimize the storage:

    remove the 1:1 previews, and/or

    remove smart insights

    (using the Lr menu functions)

In addition, if you reduce the size and/or quality of the standard previews (using Lr preferences), then it will be not so great...

That said, some of us just delete these records as a quick dirty way to 'start over' preview-wise...

  • Can I use my file of smart noticed lrdata on another Mac and then takes over the changes to the original?

LR5 CC user. I tried to use Smart saw for the first time. I followed what appeared to be the best advice but now not sure since most of the functionality of guides working with a single computer and offline files. I'm travelling away from more than a month. I have a Mac Pro with thousands of images. I exported my 'best' 5000 smart insights in a lrdata file to use with my macbook pro laptop on a trip. I took the file lrdata with me on a hard drive. Not the file catalog. Now it seems that I can import these files (by double-clicking the lrdata file) but I'm afraid that if I change them editing will be lost when I return to the original. They have different file names. I'm basically losing the chance to do a touch up? Or is it possible to edit and send them to the original catalogue?

    10greenmen wrote:

We should not import & edit the preview files smart (the DNG with loss with names like 7/7FB5/7FB580F4-00BB-4C39-8DE5-C09490BA6CB8.dng), instead of the photos they "represent."

But if you do, here's how to transfer settings and/or metadata to preview files smart imported/released to the original photos which you have edited in the first place:

o NOTE: you must import smart previews published directly in your main catalog when you get home (travel catalog import, or save first and just import files xmp - two works in a way).

    * Download and install RelativeAntics (free by me) plugin.

To choose "Any Smart Previews" pre-set (in the plugin Manager).

    * Select the imported smart preview files.

    * Run 'Relative Antics"(menu file-> Plugin Extras).

    * Unselect all items of ' Define 'Related' section, * except * "Custom Relative."

    * Select whether you want to transfer cause adjustment or metadata...

    * and do - this will copy the metadata and settings of the selected imported/edition-smart-preview to the photo that should be edited in the first place (the "related" photo).

  • Can I change someone of another LR Smart previews remotely?

I live overseas right now and I have a potential customer who wants to start farming on editing for my wedding photography. As I watched tutorials on smart insights, it seems to me that it should be possible for me to open and edit their smart glimpses of my computer in Norway. Is this true? And if so, would I need their catalog, but also smart folder preview LR? What is the best and most effective way to do this? Thank you!

It is not really a matter of 'Can I change someone of another chip LR previews remotely?' but more like this: "if my customer sent me a catalog with intelligent insights, can I use them to make adjustments and return the book to him?

What she or he will have to do is select the images and do file > export as catalog. Verification of intelligent insights, but not of negatives (original) will generate a folder containing any work accomplished and intelligent previews. It will be a lot smaller that send you the original (assuming they are large shooting raw files).

You can then make your adjustments in the catalog and return. They then use file > import from another catalog to put your work in their catalog. This would be it.

It is interesting to try (and you can try the workflow preceding yourself before you unleash the it on the client). You will find that you can make good enough adjustments with intelligent previews, but it is also possible that in some cases you will find them inadequate - for example if you have cropped a high ISO shot and want to be sure the reduction of noise.
