  So, I recorded about 40 slides of movie without realizing account than the speed needed adjustment on the projector. Then the audio sounds fast enough. I was wondering how can I slow down a bit without making a sound too slowly? I tried to adapt it to the FCP with the c case, but it make it too slow and makes it still the audio sound like chipmunks. I want to set the audio where it seems normal. I could get out of the video and adjust it in audacity, but I won't do that because then it will take me an eternity to align to the clip in FCP and even then it may not work right. I have attached a small clip for you all to see what I need assistance.

  I just bought a new MacBook Pro and a new crush LaCie 2big 2 series of RAID hard drive to use for Time Machine backup.

  An hour or there (that's how long it took me to get these forums to work under OS 10.4.11) I opened a 13 MB PDF in preview, did a search for a particular word... and everything froze.   Fill my boot drive (there was about 1 GB free before that) included writing thousands of files, of which many were stored on a temporary 300 MB RAMdisk. Why... ? BECAUSE I DIDN'T DEVELOP THOUSANDS OF SMALL FILES ON A PHYSICAL HARD DRIVE!  Use of the RAM (in Activity Monitor) went from 302 MB to about 4 MB, and a free space on my boot drive went from 900 MB 0 MB. It is ZERO. That's why Preview himself used somehow 600 MB.

  At this point I * could * have answered my own question - opening a small PDF in preview and search for the letter 'e' has seized about 30 MB (5813 occurrences of 'e').   Mac OS X, like all modern operating systems, has a virtual memory system that uses space on the startup disk.  The amount of storage space used for this virtual machine "pagefile" depends on whether the system is.

  1 GB of free space on your startup disk is MUCH too low.  You must have at least 10% free space (or more).  In addition, as the available free space goes down lower and lower, which is always available free space becomes more fragmented.  This can severely affect performance because the system tries to write to its VM file spread (into small pieces) all over your hard drive media.  It can even speed up hard drive failure.

  Thus, it is unlikely that the Preview (the application) used up to 600 MB of disk space by opening a PDF file.  The overall operating system was what she does and allocated more space for virtual memory, according to the needs.  When you start up the Mac, the amount originally used by the virtual memory is low.  But it can reach several GBs in size that you use your Mac for different tasks.  If your Mac has low physical RAM, still more disk space gets used by virtual memory.

  You need to free more space on your startup disk, to allow the BONE function effectively.  Get an external drive, to unload rarely used files.

  Hardware configuration is important, but also the pre-installed software can affect performance.
  So if you want to compare laptop s / s performance computer you must ensure that both machines use the same operating system, same tools, same software.

  I think there are a lot of processes running in the background.
  This could slow down the system.

  Finally, a HARD disk failure can cause these delays too so maybe the fitness of HARD drive needs to be tested

• FPGA: unable to update the timer on fpga through host.

  I worked on FPGA project. It has several loops paralel and works with some sampling time.

  I would like to change the "timing" on a single loop, it is called loop output. I would like to slow down the loop so that the loop will update the output less frequently. (see attachment - red circle)

  I modified the code by changing the timer by the host. (see attachment - blue circle).

  I did several things such as:

  1. Add a manual switch that allows me to change the time of sampling mode normal (same time of polling with other loops) in manual mode (set the timer number).

  But it did not work all the time. I checked the value on the host, it is always on the same sampling time, even I write the value of the timer to measure.

  2. I changed the strategy by putting the other control connected directly to the timer (without switch) in the loop so that I can change the value directly. However, there is still no luck. The result is not reliable. It sometimes slows down and many are in the same pace as before.

  3. I even put a case in front of the exit structure so it was only updated after sometimes (all 100 or more loops). It is not always useful. I see the speed varies, but it is not as expected.

  The material is piezo readers/engine. But I want to slow down the speed, does not increase the speed. Thus, it should not be a problem.

  I really appreciate if there are any comments or suggestions.

  After consulting with my supervisor, he advised me to spend on intermediate or new control value first. Then, update the value of the control that is connected to the timer loop with this intermediate control value. It will update the value of the timer loop after loop (when intermediary value received from the host and update control connected to the timer loop). It works fine now.

  I don't know exactly the mechanism labview of drafting or updating the fpga through host value. But, it seems to me, in my case, there was a problem of writing a value to the control that is connected to the loop timer where ran in relatively fast. Well, little control ignore/reject the new value because it is busy to execute the loop in high speed.

• Yoga 11 (Windows RT) - worth the discounted price?

  As the title suggests, I'm curious whether the reduced price of Yoga 11 is worth ($299 + tax). Currently, I'm looking for a netbook type companion to take with me when I go to class or work. I am currently deciding between this and the Dell Inspiron 11 3000. The Asus T100 is a little too small for my taste and has some quality control problems. Chromebook are excluded largely because of the lack of PDF support Assembly (there are a few applications, but more importantly, they are terrible).

  Although I love the form factor and battery life, I am skeptical of the Tegra 3 processor. About 2 years now, and I've heard that Yoga 11 (and the Surface RT first gen) are all two pretty lag when you want to type in Microsoft Word and other applications in general usage. These problems have been fixed with the updates (especially the 8.1 update recently released)? Or people suggest passing on the Yoga and go for something that is complete windows?

  I bought a Yoga 11 recently, priced at $299, and although I have a few quibbles, I am usually very happy and would recommend it, especially at this price.

  Windows 8.1 RT has a very attractive interface, even with the Tegra 3 processor, and I never noticed any lag switching between programs and from the Office at metro interface. I also found that Word works fine, as well as the rest of the office. I just gave a presentation at a roundtable this weekend and all the members of my group loading their PowerPoint presentations on my 11 of Yoga, most of them created on Mac. Everything went smoothly.

  When you notice the CPU is in loading programs and download/installation of the software. Programs like Word will take 2-3 seconds extra beyond what I'm used from my Atom netbook (which also uses a SSD). I suspect that the disk I/o is not fast, as well as the processor. However, my wife has a Nexus 7 with the same processor, and it seems to perform better on the Yoga in point 8.1 of Windows. I am a person of Android, but I really wanted a fully functional version of office for my laptop, with autonomy - this thing fits the Bill, even better than the 11-s, which has about half of the life of the battery.

  I don't mind being stuck with RT, even if she still has few applications, since I use this camera mainly for consumer media tablet-style and occasional office work. It is perfect for that. The thing is that the build quality is clearly that of a much more expensive machine.   I can't get with XP and windows 7 with cursor selection to submenus. I click to select and submenu drop-down menu appears, but I can't move the mouse fast enough (well, sometimes I can but it's not easy) to get the menu and select an option. As soon as I move the mouse the submenu of the menu is gone! Where can I fix? It's only a problem being updated apps windows7 more concentrated. I find it quite unbearable. May take 10 minutes to get to click on the desired option.

  In windows 7, I have the additional/same with "show hidden icons", but when they appear it is almost impossible to get the cursor there before they disappear.

  There will be an option somewhere to fix this, but I can't find where.

  I use 64GB as a direct drive D: and it works fast and well. I have several tablets, so just use the c: drives to the operating system. All my apps are installed on the D: drive and I can move just the card from one device to the other.

  My guess is that anything over 64 GB should also work.
