Software designer Oracle 10 G in Version control?

Hello world
I intend to use Oracle Designer 10 G version control software like VSS in addition to its traditional use to create diagrams entity-relation etc.
Is Oracle Designer good to store files, remaining with history etc?
Please notify.

Concerning
IQ

Version in the Designer control is extremely powerful, actually too powerful, it can be extremely complicated to use. I agree with other Councils to use something else. However, you can emulate aspects of version control in the designer by appointing sound records. Designer is good for storage of the files as well.

Unfortunately Oracle in their wisdom decided not to develop Designer and put their efforts into SQL Developer Data Modeler!

  • Oracle forms version control system

    Hello

    Which tool is best Version and difference, audit reports and Oracle Forms.

    My environment is

    OS = Redhat 5.9

    Database = 10.2.0.1

    Developer = 6i patch 17

    Thanks in advance

    I'm used to subversion, but this does not mean that it is the right tool for you. GIT is a distributed version control system that provides the ability to create local chapters that sometimes miss me in subversion, for example when I do a greater research who needs significant changes to code.

    At the end of the day, you read about the characteristics of some version control systems, to play and see if it fits your needs. At least that's what I did 7 years ago when we checked the subversion.

    For example, take a look here:

    http://en.Wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_revision_control_software

    Don't be overwhelmed by the amount of VCS out there. That's just my opinion, but the free Source Open (like subversion or GIT) VCS are at least as powerful as their commercial counterparts (of not more powerful), so I will abstain to scrutinize sales.

    What is diff/merge is in a team of 4 developers I guess having to resolve conflicts is rather rare?

    There are a few possibilities but to compare changes:

    -convert your forms to XML format and compare with a plain vanilla diff viewer: conversion of an Oracle Forms Application

    -convert the pll files in text format gross LDP with rwconverter and compare with a spectator ordinary vanilla diff

    -use a commercial tool like FormsTool - ORCL Toolbox

    I don't know, maybe there are other tools of differentiation/fusion available as well, but that's what we use (Forms tool in collaboration with rwconverter to merge pll files, as this does not well in the forms tool but not the fault of the tool itself, but on the API, it based on...)

  • Software version control / level of patch management

    Hi all

    I have spent a bit playing with the enterprise version of hyperic (seeking to replace nagios monitoring of our 250ish windows/unix servers). I can't find a feature that may be critical for us - Version control.

    IE. We agree with software foo with patches bar1 and bar2 be in our environment.

    Any ideas on how this can be achieved would be appreciated.

    MJH

    MJH,

    You are right, the plugins versions for you as part of the automatic detection report. And you can create a group of a given type of resourcce across all your machines to give you information, reports and alerts that apply to all instances of just that software.

    What is the updates, since you can't use puppets, you can create alerts based on the version that Stacey pointed out, and you might consider using a script that the fix or upgrade. This script can be triggered manually by you when you are alerted of a version number or automated via your link of your script to your version change alert.

    For example, you upgrade/patch system, then set an alert for you say all the systems that do not match this version. You upgrade/patch all machines not this version.

    Let me know if this helps.

  • Need information on installing oracle 11 g R2 grid control

    Hello
    I am new to oracle grid control and his game.
    I have no idea abt SGD and Agent.

    (1) I have 1 DB on my machine.
    (2) download the grid software linux.x64_11gR2_grid.zip.
    (3) run the runinstaller.
    (4) for the opening of running Installer GUI there are 4 options.i chose no option No 4 - install the grid software only.

    Now please help me what is the next step that I have to perform. How do I place my checklist. How to fit my DB in the grid.
    I use the grid control because I have to configure the plugin EM for ten times.

    Kind regards

    Hello

    If you want to use EM 11 g Grid Control on 64-bit Linux, you must install the 11.1.0.1.0 version, which is available here:

    http://www.Oracle.com/technetwork/OEM/grid-control/downloads/linuxx8664soft-085949.html

    Note that the latest version of the EM is 12 c; However, if you still want to go with EM 11 g, the following support note documents the installation steps and has references to other useful notes:

    Enterprise Manager Grid Control 11.1.0.1 step by step installation (Doc ID 1059516.1)

    Moreover, the Concepts guide below contains information about 11 g EM including WHO and the agent components:

  • Sa20-S103 can't install software designed for Windows XP

    Because I installed a service pack II - I had a problem with the installation of some software on my SA20.
    Even with software designed for Windows XP. We have several PC's desktop and my SA20 is a laptop. All PCs have the same XP version with the same updates.

    So in my widows case gives the following warning:
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG. NT. This file system is not appropriate to run MS-DOS or Microsoft Windows applications. Select a button 'Close' to terminate the application activity.

    Microsoft told me: Sorry, it's a problem with Toshiba Windows XP under System. They explained that in this case service pack II can work not properly in contact with the XP system redesigned for Toshiba. Who can help me?

  • In the Apex version control

    We are fairly new to apex, and we plan to create a broad application using the latest version of the Apex.  We plan to use Subversion (SVN) version control tool.

    We have 3 scenes like

    -Development

    -Staging

    -Production

    Our plan is to use the same id of the workspace, the application id and the ID of page in all environments, so that we can apply individual for the pages of the application changes after the initial version is deployed in all 3 environments.

    The workflow will be development in the development-> Testing environment in staging-> deploy to Production

    What is a good way to make the Apex version control?   Is there any other better practical approach that we can use?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Dragonia,

    Start with, you're in the right direction! The first (step 1) for control of current version of APEX is to have cloned DB systems for DEV/TEST/PROD. This ensures internal APEX IDs are the same in all settings and it will help us to detect only valid changes.

    Step 2: export the individual components of the APEX in sql files. Add them to version control.

    To export individual components of APEX in the form of sql files, you can use the Java utilities provided by APEX. These classes are under the folder path below APEX zip

    \apex\utilities\oracle\apex

    APEXExport.class - use this utility to export specified from the specified workspace APEX and DB application

    APEXExportSplitter.class - use this utility for dividing bulk single apex sql file into individual sql files (generates an sql for APEX component)

    Step 3: when changes are made, rerun the utility of separator and validate the svn changes (you can only commit files sql for components respective apex which you have changed)

    Step 4: build patches script to migrate following environment changes (the hard part!)

    There is no easy way to do this by their SUMMIT. You must take all the files of sql that you changed, and you must prepare an installation script to run all of these sql files. When you run apex splitter, it gives you all the parts of apex with a well organized with install.sql file folder structure. You can see this install.sql file to prepare your own patches script.

    Another difficult point is - some components of the APEX should be deleted before re-creating them. For example if you changed the page 10 and you want to export the following environment changes, then install.sql sample will be as below

    -- install.sql
    @application/init.sql
    @application/set_environment.sql
    @application/delete_pages.sql
    @application/pages/page_00010.sql
    @application/end_environment.sql

    And the contents of delete_pages.sql will be as follows

    -- delete_pages.sql
    SET DEFINE OFF

    BEGIN
        wwv_flow_api.g_mode := 'REPLACE';
    END;
    /

    BEGIN
        wwv_flow_api.remove_page (p_flow_id=>101, p_page_id=>10);
    END;
    /

    And this isn't the end of the story. Some of the changes to shared component can be directly applied to the next environment using sql scripts generated by splitter apex (such as models, methods of application), but some of the shared components cannot be. We must first remove and then we have to recreate it using files sql generated via a dispatcher of the apex. And we need to go through the undocumented internal APEX wwv_flow_api care to know what procedure we use to remove that shared component package.

    Also when delete us a page, then all registered users reports public and private will be lost. So before you move your changes to Production, you should export user reports public/private and you should re - install Production DB after the installation of pages.

    To summarize, apex version control applications is not hard, but preparation 'delta script or patch' is very difficult.

    Hi joelkallman-Oracle, I do remember that you promised to publish a white paper ticket or a blog on this topic. It is already published. If so, can you please share the details. Thanks a lot for your wonderful support in advance.

  • Integrate SQL Developer with IBM's Clearcase Version control

    Hello

    I explored the part of version control for SQL code by incorporating my SQL with Clearcase from IBM Developer. So far I have not been successful with it, I managed to remove the SVN Version control options, but I am not able to use it for my Clearcase link. Could I know please if there is any plugin available from Oracle for this to do. If it please help & drop your suggestions.

    Thank you

    Michael ([email protected])

    Hi Julien,

    There is ClearCase comes available for JDeveloper extension versions, and as any given SQL Developer release some releases JDeveloper, you may be able to find an appropriate version of the extension for your use case.  Looking for ClearCase in the center of update JDev:
    http://www.Oracle.com/ocom/groups/public/@OTN/documents/WEBCONTENT/131167.XML

    Of course, ClearCase is Nolisted in the release notes for SQL Developer as a supported Version control system:

    http://www.Oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/SQL-Developer/downloads/sqldev-releasenotes-v4-1925251.html

    If you want to give it a go, however, here's what I did to install a ClearCase plug-in for my 4.0.1 Developer SQL...

    1. check the SQL Developer Help > about > Extensions for the version of oracle.jdeveloper.vcs (12.1.3.2.41.140207.1351)

    2 downloaded vcs - clearcase_bundle.zip (12.1.2.0.40.66.68 is the closest available JDev version)

    3. in the zip file, modify or replace the value of the property maxVersion in the META file - INF\bundle.xml (from 12.1.2.0.40.66.68 to 12.1.3.2.42.99.99)

    4. install the zip: Tools > features... > Check for Updates (top-right) > install from a Local (radio button) file...

    5. now, ClearCase will be available from the main tool bar: team > ClearCase

    I don't have a ClearCase installed on my machine, so that's as far as I could go.  I hope that you will still make progress.

    Kind regards
    Gary

  • Distributed Version Control in JDeveloper 9.0.3.5

    Hello

    I am currently using JDeveloper 9.0.3.5(Build 1453) with Oracle E-Business Suite 11.5.10 applications to sponsor OAF.

    What I googled so far, all signs point to 'NO' but is it possible to use a system of control of distributed like Git or Mercurial with this version of JDeveloper? The only options I see are CVS and Rational ClearCase SCM Oracle9i. Currently, my company is not no matter what version control system. How to use version control system / do you offer?

    At the time 9,0,3, there is no such thing as Git.

    We support Git in new versions of JDeveloper.

    Version 9, the best would be to use the free CVS version management.

    Another option is to use the tools-> external tools to define calls to the command-line Git, passing parameters in the files that you want to check in and out.

  • Unit testing and Version control tool

    Hi all

    We try to evaluate a PL/SQL developer tool that will have the following options.

    1. version Control (Control Version TFS or Subversion server)
    2. unit tests

    I see two options

    1 Developer SQL
    2 TOAD + Quest Code tester for Oracle

    Some you will suggest which option to go for and why?

    Also can we use JDeveloper or any other for this purpose?

    Please notify.

    Kind regards
    Hari

    It is somewhat a generic question.

    different tools have benefits different and different tools suit different companies and how projects that are managed or how the development is made etc..

    Some people may prefer to use these tools just for the development of the code, but for example use the CCS for source code management and version control, then develop their own unit test scripts, or have dedicated 3rd party tools in order to test the individual unit, business, test system etc. of test cases.

    Without knowing your company's configuration and requirements in detail, it would be difficult to say that one thing is better than the other in most cases.

  • No Version control under the file Menu command

    Version of program:  Adobe RoboHelp 8.0.2 / RoboSource Control 3.1

    Hello!

    I am very experienced with authoring in RoboHelp, but I'm trying to implement the version control for the first time and documentation (PDF version of the manual using Adobe RoboHelp 8, page 29, point 2) says "Choose file > Version Control > add to Version Control.

    I have not found a Version control on the file menu point, even if the menu was fully deployed.

    I found a toolbar icon that seemed to link to the command.

    It is not a big deal, because I could find the icon, but I have other problems with version control (which I will address in a separate post), and I wonder if there is something wrong with my software.  Everyone has the "Version Control" command in the file menu?

    Thank you!

    Andreah

    Hello

    Sometimes it takes to reset a menu. To do this, right click on your menu bar and choose Customize. This should be the tab toolbars at the front. If this is not the case, click it. Then make sure the highlight is on the menu bar. Click on the reset button. Dismiss all dialogs. It shows then?

    Here again, the Source code control is not my cup of witchcraft and I do not use it. So, I've never had a reason to pick up the order. Maybe it's just missing and the docs are wrong.

    See you soon... Rick
