Something is to use my C drive space.

I tried all the obvious stuff, the restore points, research etc. updated last.  Norton said: I'm OK.  I'm at 500 MB of free space on og 37.1 Gb and distressed.  I have a lot of space on the E drive.  Anyway is to know what is happening?

Hello

see if this program helps you to determine what is take up space

The other Options tab is available when you choose to clean up the files of all users on the computer. This tab includes two additional ways to free disk space even more:

  • Programs and features. Open programs and features in Control Panel, where you can uninstall programs you no longer use. The column size in programs and features shows how much disk space each program uses.

  • System Restore and shadow copies. Guests delete you all but the most recent restore point on the disc.

When you create a snapshot of a virtual computer, new vmdk file are created to write all the new data since the snapshot.

This new wil vmdk (normally vmname "_00000001.vmdk" "") to develop until the snapshot is deleted.

This means that if you have a 100 GB datastore race a virtual machine with a 20 GB vDisk Ofbrussels take snapshot, the new file * _0000001.vmdk can grow until the data store is filled. So the instant vmdk can grow much larger than the original vmdk

The interesting part is, and I think that is where your problem.

Let's say you have a virtual machine with 3 x vDisk (vmdk) each on a separate data store. (1, 2, 3 Datastore data store data store)

When you take a snapshot, the file of * instant _00000001.vmdk for all 3 vDisks, will be created on the data store that contains the virtual machine configuration files.

Say in this case, the configuration of the VM is the data store 1, wink all vdisks will write to the data store 1. When you delete the snapshot, the changes will be Committee of the 1st store of data for the respective data storages.

  • Hard drive space used/free info displayed is incorrect

My hard disk space used and the space free information apparently enormously out of proportion to the actual use. Can't understand why.

    Details:

My disk C (683 GB) indicated (including the Information and records management system) as having 140 GB of used space.

I find that about 42 GB, including hidden files, system files, swap file and hiberfil.sys.

My computer came with the SATA 750Go unique fully formatted and whose 683 GB C drive and a recovery disk 15 GB D.

I want to reduce C & create a new partition for documents before installing some new important software on C.

I am reluctant to shrink, or install new software, until I have find the mystery of this 100 GB of files to inventory.

I ran disk cleanup and Defragmenter. No change in the amount of space used / free display.

When I click the icon of the C in disk management and choose shrink, he says I can reduce C only to about 500 GB. I understand that shrink should be done several times to get full party, so presumably he would get smaller. I the have not used yet, but because of the concern/mystification about the reasons for this apparently incorrect space used for the drive.

I have Vista Home Premium (64-bit). I don't have a shadow copy volume.

I have not installed or changed anything significant since buying the computer, nor what I made a backup to C or D or large file transfer done.

Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi Virginia2332,

You mentioned that the total size of the hard drive is 750 GB and also mentioned that the size is 683 after formatting and 15 GB recovery partition that add up to 698 GB. So where's the advantage remaining 52 GB.

You have another partition outside C and D.

However, I suggest you perform a check disk on your computer that will rectify the bad sectors, if any. Bad sectors will also be counted as used space.

CHKDSK (Chkdsk.exe) is a tool for command line that checks volumes of disk for problems and attempts to fix everything what it finds.

    1. click on Start.

    2. type cmd in the search box start and press to enter.

    3. type the following command at the command prompt: chkdsk driveletter: / f/r (chkdsk c:/f/r)

    4. check the size of the hard drive.

During the same purchase of this laptop, free space in C drive was about 60-65 GB. But it's been a year and now I don't know why all the free space is used up in drive C. only 37 GB of free space is left. Where's all the 28 GB free space? I was installing all the software and games in the F drive only. I tried to use CCleaner to free up space but it would release only space about 1 GB only. Even readers are defragmanted. I kept the F drive to download stuff, movies, music, personal, software, tricks games, etc. etc. C drive is only for Windows. Help, please.

    Hello

Thanks for choosing Microsoft Community to post your question. I appreciate your efforts in market CCleaner.

Windows uses the large amount of space for installation of windows and the Windows updates. Even if you move the applications and files partition F:, Windows updates will be installed on the C: drive, which occupies space on the C: drive and we cannot avoid it.

However, you can consider running Disk Cleanup and check if you can free up more space.

I see no reason to keep them, they take a lot of space, one of the reasons to convert to DNG is that they are almost 20% smaller than the ships.

  • Satellite C660: HARD drive space shows only 20 GB of free?

Toshiba Satellite c660 with 320 GB of disk space, it shows that 2 hard drives or 2 partitions, one called data shows only 20.6 GB of free on 148, but when I go in there I can only find at maximum approximately 50 GB even with all the backups?

    Hello

There are more partitions on the HARD drive.
You can see it in disk management.
Right click on computer and select manage.
Now you should be able to go to the disk management which will show you all the available partitions.

A hidden partition is used for the Windows 7 backup files that are needed to fix the Windows 7 in the case where something goes wrong with the OS.
Then, you can find a Windows partition and the other partition is used for HARD drive recovery. The point is that you are able to run the system recovery from the HARD drive without the use of the recovery disc (recover disk must be created using the recovery disc creator)

  • I lose a hard drive space every day on my Windows 7 computer

My computer is barely a month.  I only put on about 6 programs, all with small footprints.  I transferred to about 70 GB of files.  I know that the system uses the memory out of the box, but even with all that taken into account, that I can't take into account more than 40 GB of space and the amount increases every day.

I was check and each day I lose a few GB of hard drive space.  Where's he going?  There is much info on Vista and some of its features that uses a hard disk space, I guess than some that apply to Windows 7.  But seriously, for example I lost 2GB between yesterday and today, and I have absolutely nothing to the computer.

Clean temporary files and use Disk Cleanup to reclaim space.  But it is usually minimal and it does not take into account what I lose.  I have the system to restore all of the space to a fairly small percentage.  In summary, I think I have everything correct in order to minimize the use of hard drive, but the space is to be consumed at an alarming rate.  No virus, MSE is on the system and did not find a thing.

Where the hell the space continues?  I am glad that I have a large hard drive, so there is move the room, but it's ridiculous to have disk space available endangered on its own.  I don't know that it's associated BONE.  Thoughts?

  • My (C) hard drive space becomes low. What can I do?

    Hello

My Windows Update is set to the recommended level. (C) hard drive space becomes low and other drives (E, F, G) have enough space. What happens if the C drive space comes to level down while Windows Update is taking place. The minimum amount of space have stand to drive C? How to manage the process?

    Your cooperation will be appreciated.

    Thanks & Rgds,
    Solvemachine

You really need to think about 15%, a minimum of free space on the disk.

Your 1st task is to try to identify the cause of the lack of space. Things like music, photos and especially video may gradually creep on you.

TreeSize here is quite useful to work where space is gone.

Libraries can be moved. Expand 1st level of etiquette in the left pane to display the top folder and right-click. The location of the tab, you can change the location of one of the empty discs and it will copy all files when you click on move. If you have more than one user, it is best to create a record of the user for each group and then do it for each of them. Don't forget to check the new location is included in all of the backups.

Also use disk cleanup too. Open the computer, right click on the C drive, and then click Properties. Click Disk Cleanup. For more options in the result, click on the option of system files and see what you can get rid of.

Check the system restore to see how much disk space it uses:

    Click Start

    Right click on computer

    Click on properties

    Click on advanced system settings

    Click on the System Protection

    Click on configure

Adjust the amount of disk space allocated to system restore.

In addition, the amount of RAM you have installed, it will take more disk space for paging, hibernation, and dump files.

  • Clones using a lot of space

I expect this post here until I place a call to VMware. My linked clones seem to use a lot of space of SAN. I redial every two weeks, because I see my LUN put below 40 GB of free space. I have a GB 325 ONE of my clones. I have approximately 65 clones.

I use a ONE of my clones and a LUN, separated from my lines and another unit number logic for P-drives (2GB). This is why I can't explain why my CLONE lun uses as much space. If I look at virtual desktops, some use 6 GB, 8 GB, up to 12 GB!

I use a 4 GB also available with each vdesktop drive. I thought that if I don't do that, then all temporary files go to the P-drive and which fills up quickly. I thought the disposable disc is removed on logout?

If I update one of the desktop computers that uses say 8 GB, it comes down to a little more than 1 GB, which makes sense, because this particular machine use 1 GB of ram, so there is a 1 GB swap file.

Users installing not applications on the vDesktop, Windows Update is disabled. The only thing is antivirus dat get pushed.

    thoughts?

The first disc, a small view that creates who holds QuickPrep configuration data and other data based on the OS that must be preserved during the refresh and recompose operations.

The second disc, if I'm not mistaken, is where the view creates the right snapshot once the clone is created.  As far as I know it is used to help speed up the refresh operations.

The third and last disc you have listed is where the differential data is stored.  This is data that are different from what is stored in the replica.

  • Bridge takes a lot of hard drive space

    Hello world

IM new to this forum and new also for Photoshop CS6 and everything that surounds it.

I had a small question which may be simple to you guys but its been annoys me a bit

I work with bridge this morning and import pictures in it. Then I looked at my hard drive space and he was down about 5 GB. I do not change or do anything special, just imported photos so it would be easier when I start using PS CS6. Is it normal when I import images that it takes up little space on my hard drive. I thought that the bridge was used only to create a link between my photo file and Psalm I then tried to remove the images in Bridge to see if space would come back available, but it didn't. Anyone? Please help me to answer my questions?

    Thank you

PS: I have 164 GB of free space on my hard drive, if it helps. Thanks again

What you see is normal.  Once you import pictures Bridge generates a cache file, then you can disply a thumbnail.  Delete the picture will still retain the thumbnail, which is the function of compact cache.

The options you choose depend on the size of the cache.   Embedded thumbnails takes less space.  If you check generate and save previews of 100% that will really increase the size of the cache folder.

See this thread for more information on the cache.  http://forums.Adobe.com/thread/1094509?TSTART=0
