SQL 2008 R2 SP1 and vSphere 6

Hi all

We are planing to install ESXi host where are hosted with our SQL 2008 R2 SP1 machines, version 6. Do you know if this upgrade is supported by Microsoft?

I mean, we have a problem after the upgrade? Application errors, incompatibility, etc...

Thank you

Chris

The virtual machine will not know that anything has been updated, but if you update the hardware version of the virtual machine update then there will be an operating system level changes. VMTools update necessary and the material presented.

I did some updates from 5.5 to 6, including sites where SQL server is running and have not had any problems. Just make sure you test first and do you homework with the HCL, etc..

    Sorry,

  • Error 0 x 80096001, several errors when trying to install MS VS 2008, Vista SP1 and when you try to run Windows update or Windows Defender.

Hello. I wanted to run Visual Studio 2010 Express edition on my Vista Home Premium, but ran into way too many problems. First of all, download have not installed because of a problem with the installation of .NET framework v4.0. Then I tried to VS 2008, but has encountered the same problem with the .NET framework. Whenever I try to run Windows update, it displays error Code 80096001 and said "Windows could not check for new updates. So I tried to download .net directly from microsoft downloads, but whenever I try to install it, it says I need to turn on .net "turn on or off windows features", in the control panel. I tried, but the list is completely empty, it shows nothing at all. I downloaded the vista sp1, but it too installation stops with error code 0 x 80096001.
I tried to disable my anti-virus (avg free). Windows Defender does not initially upward or through subsequent attempts to run it. It shows the same error code. Please advise on how I can solve these problems and use Visual Studio... it's very frustrating because I never had these problems with XP... everything worked.

Seems like a lot of corruption. Try Windows 7 repair:

  • VCenter 4.1 install error on a french MS SQL 2008 SP1

Hi, we have a problem with a windows 2008 R2 (US or EN) and a MS SQL 2008 EN SP1.

We cannot install the vcenter server. We have an error "Error 25003. Installation failed to create the repository of the vCenter server. »

It works with MS SQL Express 2005 or 2008 US.

It also works with a MS SQL 2008 SP1 US.

    That's OK with a MS SQL 2008 SP1 EN when we install a vcenter 4.0 Update 1.

    We have another problem:

We cannot account system choice when we install Vcenter 4.1 with a DSN for SQL 2008, even when we turn off the UAC.

    Kind regards.

  • Update Manager is not compatible with SQL 2008 Standard edition?

I noticed in the documentation for compatibility, all in vCenter Server 4 shows also compatible with standard SQL 2008, vSphere Update Manager not compatible with her poster (if it does not say that it is compatible with the version of the Enterprise edition). Is this correct? I've seen other discussions here, which indicates that, in some cases, the documentation is wrong. Someone at - he here tried running vSphere Update Manager with a SQL 2008 Standard database and I can confirm that it does or does not work?

  • SQL 2008 sp1 support?

Does anyone know if sp1 for SQL 2008 is still supported?

I checked and don't see it listed in the compatibility matrix, but thought I'd ask just in case.

    Thank you.

FYI ANY version of a database will be supported.  If she supports SQL 2008 ALL future updates SP1, SP2, etc... will be supported, if that's what you're asking... SQL 2008 is on the list but not SP1.

If there are major changes, which would be 2010 SQL (or other).  Service Packs are supposed to be included.

  • vCenter on vOrchestrator on SQL 2005 and SQL 2008?

I was reading the support for vCenter and vOrchestrator matrix and was surprised to see that vCenter is fully supported on SQL 2008 but vOrchestrator is only supported on SQL 2005. As we all migrate to SQL 2008, we want to install as many vSPhere on SQL 2008 as possible. Is - it possible/decision-making supported to install vSphere on SQL 2008 and then separately install vOrchestrator on SQL 2005? Installing vCenter it seems to me that if both components have been installed at the same time, but maybe it was because I was in a lab environment and went with the built-in SQL Express.

Any word on what vOrchestrator will support SQL 2008? I really don't like VMware may not have common requirements for all their products. I know that vOrchestorator was an acquisition, but still... come on people! Life is complicated enough.

vCenter and Orchestrator use their own databases, you can install vCenter on SQL 2008 and Orchestrator 2005 without problem.

  • TMS and SQL 2008 R2

    Hi all

We plan to spend our SQL 2005 a 2008R2 server. In the Installation of TMS and Quick Start Guide (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/telepresence/infrastructure/tms/install_guide/Cisco_TMS_Install_Getting_Started_Guide_13-1.pdf , page 6), they say that all versions of SQL 2008 are supported, but we must be sure that this includes the SQL 2008R2. Are there restrictions or considerations?

    Thank you!

I seem to TMS doesn't run well with SQL 2008 R2 no problem

  • upgrade to SQL 2008 R2 SP2 to SP3

    Hi all

    We have vCenter 5.5 with 3B update on 2008 R2 SP1.

We will upgrade MSSQL 2008 R2 SP2 to SP3 on vCenter Server. can you please help me understand if we go ahead with the upgrade or precautions should be taken?

    Kind regards

    SK

You can go forward because it's on the compatibility matrix, see: VMware product interoperability Matrices

But, don't forget not to take a backup of your SQL databases and if current running on the virtual machine, take a snapshot of the virtual machine.

  • Change Vcenter DSN 2005 SQL native client for SQL 2008 native client

    Hi all.

I tried to upgrade our Vsphere for VM Windows 5.5 to Vsphere 6.0 for Windows (latest version of January).

The upgrade checking failed after entering the credentials of user Vcenter. The error is 'unsupported database driver.

In fact the DSN connection uses the SQL native client 2005.90.2047. Is also on the system SQL native client 10. (Version 2009.100.2500) is installed. I think it's the SQL 2008 R2 native client.

The SQL Vcenter database is on a remote database SQL 2008 R2 server.

I tried to change the DSN of SQL native client 10. The service started, but I've seen lots of SQL errors in the vpxd.log. I could solve only to return to the snapshot and restore the SQL database.

How can I change the SQL Native client to connect DSN correctly?

Thank you very much in advance?

    Edy

Have you removed the old DSN entry and created a new using the driver of the new (and good)? And have you checked the registry if your change reflected here (\VMware Virtualcenter\DB HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VMware, Inc.)?

  • Configuration of SQL 2008 R2, Enterprise Edition for vCenter Server 5.1

    Greetings to all seasons.

Kind of a newbie here. That's my lab environment.

I have always used the vCenter Server install Simple option that also installs the shipped Microsoft SQL 2008 R2 Express edition.

Now, I do an eval of vSphere 5.1 and I want to manually configure a database server using the Microsoft SQL 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition.

I know how to install the database server and it works. But I do not know how exactly set up a database for vCenter Server.

I looked at the guide Configuration / Installation of vSphere and I don't seem to be able to follow the preparation vCenter Server databases section, because I'm not a person to the database. Y at - it any other guide or a blog, I can follow? I searched a lot and found everything I was looking for. Thought I would ask here.

Here are the virtual machines I have.

    Lab - DC1 (domain controller)

    Lab - DC2 (domain controller)

    Lab-SQL1 (SQL 2008 R2, Enterprise Edition)

Lab-SQL2 (SQL 2008 R2 Enterprise - subsequently configure failover clustering)

    Lab-VC1(vCenter Server 1)

    Any help is appreciated!

Happy holidays.  Here is a link to another site with a nice installation guide for SQL 2008 for VMware.  Version 4.x, published in lonesysadmin.net was very helpful, so I'm sure that the 5.x update (have not read through it again) must be all too packed with useful tips.

  • Virtulize SQL 2008 on ESXi 4.1

We have a web application that uses SQL 2000 on the backend currently and this application is undergoing restructuring heavy, part of the redesign will replace the SQL Server on the backend. I have recommended virtualization it but developers are completely against it. Here's what it would look like.

1 VM Server 2008 R2 running with 2 vCPU and 8 GB of memory, the latest version of SQL 2008 installed, it will very probably a dedicated area with VMware installed for this SQL server computer. SQL and SQL data will be installed on a drive on the SAN will be mapped as a RDM. The drive from the old SQL Server is using right now is regularly between 100i/o ps and ps 200i/o and occasionally spikes to 2000i/o ps. Readers of the San are 15 disks SAS k that can support up to 9000i/o ps when spread across all drives.

I did some research but have not found much running SQL 2008 on ESXi 4.1 in addition to what I find is running SQL on 3.5 and did not have good experiences. I would like to get the reactions of the other experience with a similar setup.

Thank you very much in advance
