SSD GPT MBR?

I installed Windows 7 on a plan on the use of a hard drive 2 TB as a data disc and 256gig SSD.  I have a mobo UEFI. When I installed it I do not pay attention to the style of the score, so it installed on my SSD with MBR partition. I would like to take full UEFI. My questions are:

Is it useful to reinstall Windows 7 with TPG now before I fill my discs with data of departure?
Do I need to have the startup GPT disk to take full advantage of the UEFI?
If my boot drive's MBR as it currently is, I'll be able to make GPT disks?
I'll be able to transfer my XP data on the new GPT disk?
SSD works best with MBR?

Thank you in advance to anyone answering any of these questions.

Hello Daxon,

Thanks for posting your question on the Forum of the Microsoft community.

Installation on GPT disks requires EFI hardware.

If your system supports the EFI firmware, Windows 7 will install and boot from a disk EFI.

There are not that many EFI systems yet.

On the disc material GPT MBR can only be the data disks.

I suggest go you through the following Microsoft help articles.

  • I want to convert GPT MBR on windows 7? How can I do?

We can change a disk from MBR to GPT partition style as long as the disk does not contain partitions or volumes. But in windows 7 system contains 2 partition is a hidden partition 'System reserved' and the other is for the reader it is C system so how can I secret MBR TPG.

You can not.  TPG must be put in place when the disk is initialized and partitions are set up.  Once the partitions are configured they is not editable.

  • Why Windows 7 Setup converts GPT MBR?

My system has a UEFI BIOS. I boot from the disc to install Windows 7 using the UEFI. Once I load my drivers (disk RAID) I go to the command prompt and load DISKPART and convert my GPT disk. I install Windows 7. Once I am in my Office I find that my drive's MBR.

Why? And how to work around this?

  • Bought a new Seagate Barracuda ST2000dm001 - need to format as TPG, not MBR - HOW?

This drive seems to be the MBR, same format of Seagate DiskWizard.  Windows 7 is not installed on this new disc and gives a message about a UEFI needing to be GPT, MBR.

I tried to use Diskpart to convert, but I'm not doing anything at this point.  Any help would be appreciated.  What I am doing wrong?

By installing windows (or try) the message says: Windows could not format a partition on disk 0.  The error occurred when preparing the partition selected for installation. Error code: 0 x 80070057.

I tried to delete the partitions during installation as instructions of Microsoft said.  He made two partitions, a principal that we try to do the installation of.  It does not matter that we have reached the next or the Format, and then click Next, always the same error (unable to format).  At one point, he gave the above message MBR... to TPG.

    What I don't get?

In Diskpart: I selected the disc using the disc list and select the drive and then said to convert a GPT.  He said that the specified disk is not convertible. CD-ROM and DVD is examples of discs that are not - convertible (I chose the new HD Seagate 2 TB) so I tried volume selecting volume from the list and select the volume and then convert GPT.  Always the same answer not be convertible.

If Windows 7 is installed to a new HD 2 TB raw, and he said he'd be of TPG, so I try to use Diskpart to convert to GPT to MBR, why is it not seeming to work? I use the command Diskpart evil?

    Hello

Master boot record (MBR) disks use the standard BIOS partition table. Disks GUID partition table (GPT) using unified extensible firmware interface (UEFI). MBR disks do not support more than four partitions on each disk. The MBR partition method is not recommended for disks larger than 2 terabytes.

Now, the company´s bought a switchable controller to hot disk hard 4 and powervault md 1220 for be my storage server.

And I know mbr partittion support only 2 TB and I would like to set up my new hard drive as partittion TPG. How can I do this? Before that I have create my raid convert GPT mbr? The BIOS Setup or time I´ll to create my raid on perc controller BIOS?

    Thank you

When you add the new storage space available?

Anyway, if you have a VMFS, always using MBR 5, if you go beyond the limit of 2 TB, the partition type will automatically change to the GPT.

  • Windows 10 install on mid 2010 Macbook Pro 6,1 (2.66 17 ")

I'm trying to install 10 Windows on my Macbook.

    My Macbook is:

    MacBook Pro, Mid 2010 6.1 2.66 ghz

    8 gb Ram (standard)

500 GB HDD (standard) Samsung 850 Evo 500 GB SSD

    El Capitan 10.11.2 OSX

I try to install windows from ISO 10 Windows available on the Microsoft website.

My first question was that I could not create a bootable USB drive using bootcamp on my MacBook model.

I followed this guide to change the info.plist file and create a USB bootable with bootcamp. (http://tsentas.net/create-a-windows-7-or-later-version-install-disk-missing-on-e l-capitan /)

I got to the point where I select the BOOTCAMP partition I would like to install, however, received the error:

"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is a MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows cannot be installed on GPT disks. »

I solved the problem of GPT/MBR by using this guide: http://superuser.com/questions/508026/windows-detects-gpt-disk-as-mbr-in-efi-boo t

Then installing windows told me that my hard drive was not, I tried to continue the installation, but that failed. I checked the disk utility, and of course my disk S.M.A.R.T. status was "not..." So I've upgraded to a Samsung SSD (can't believe I did this more soon... so much faster)

Where I am: The installation now progresses from player selection and copy files. However, I get the error at the very end:

"Windows could not update the configuration to start the computer . . Installation cannot continue. »

I tried to delete, reformat the partition in the windows installation. Re-partitioning via bootcamp and resetting the PRAM I have worked for others. (rebooting and holding CMD + OPTION + P + R)

    However, I'm stuck now.

Please HELP. It drives me crazy.

    Thanks in advance.

You've seen just the tip of the iceberg. You install an EFI operating system no UEFI Mac compatible. Can you run a SMC reset - reset the management system (SCM) controller on your Mac - Apple Support and try again? Most likely, it is impossible to create/update the BCD. Be aware that you will encounter problems of driver or hardware may not appear when you use EFI boot.

A better method is to install W7 / W8 + and then upgrading to W10 on-site. If you have purchased a license W10, this cannot be a valid option.

  • No sound after installing windows 10 MBP 2012

    Hello world

    Here's what I did.

I have MBP 2012 with El Capitan on it.

I installed windows on this 10. Here are the steps I followed.

    1. Plist file modified to allow the creation of iso windows 10 on USB for my MBP (PreUSBBoot USBBoot and 2 other usual changes)
    2. ISO file 10 Windows installed
    3. Make a key USB bootable but Bootcamp with drivers
    4. Use disk utility to partition the drive for windows (reason - because it gives error while installing windows, windows MBR EFI only on device TPG error)
    5. Restarted my MBP used and selected EFI boot option key (as when installing windows in Bootcamp, it gave an error saying no device found startup)
    6. Installed Windows and driver loaded by installing bootcamp
    7. Everything works fine but the sound

    Tried, but failed

    1. Clean install of windows if partition bootcamp (error - no found boot device)
    2. Boot EFI (error - error EFI GPT MBR, windows can be installed only on TPG error)
    3. Tried the update of drivers for the sound. However, did not

Please help me with the steps to solve this problem. In addition, windows is not activated is there any way through which I can still get windows 10 free.

Change the Info.plist file is incorrect. Your MBP 2012 takes in charge the two, USB and DVD facilities. Please use BCA and remove the current installation. Installation of Windows using boot EFI on a preUEFI machine will cause more problems.

  • Question seeks to clean install 10 Windows on the drive of the merger. El Capitan.

Problem: try a clean install of Windows 10 via the Boot Camp Assistant on an iMac 27 inches (Late2013) with 10.11.4 installs hours (more than 8 hours) and then failed to install Boot Camp updates. Essentially installation take much long than normal and cannot install updates of the Apple software or create normally start Windows Boot Camp 10.

Background: After problems of slowing down after upgrading to 10.11.4 (with improved Bootcamp Windows 10) who had previously worked fine for 10 months, to the point of a start of OS X time, I decided to do a clean install of my iMac with Fusion 3 to disk.

As I was unable to remove the partition from Boot Camp through BCA because of his holding always at the same load, I used Internet recovery and reset the Fusion drive. This then required me to repair the partition of Fusion by car through THE "fix" option which seems to work very well. And reinstalled OS X 10.11.4 which works fine now (delays etc..)

Try using BCA to create a new partition Boot Camp and a clean Windows 10 install after downloading an image of disk W10 directly from Microsoft (Win10_1511_1_English_x64), BCA by downloading software updates and by selecting the desired partition, it began to restart and initialize the installation. However the whole process has been very slow, each step takes much longer than usual, to progress. Leave for hours rest a blank screen or with a circle of rotation.

I tried with another stick USB 3 and also a USB 2 stick, but none has made a difference.

In the last attempt, I left running overnight and after 8-9 hours, he finally reaches the top of desktop Windows 10 and the update of Apple Bootcamp starts to load updates. However, he just hung and even after 2 hours, nothing was. Reboot and try once again has been the same.

After that I tried to create a Windows Installer via BCA 8.0 however it gives just a TPG error when you try to select the drive (due to el Capitan I guess?)

After four days of efforts, I'm a loser on how to get the Windows 10 on the Boot Camp partition. I can't even install W8 and upgrade due to the error of TPG.

Any help or suggestions how to proceed with the diagnostic / resolution of the problem would be appreciated.

    Details:

    System: iMac (27 inch, end of 2013), 3.4 GHz Intel Core i5, 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 M 4096 MB, OS X 10.11.4

    • Nothing other than the keyboard and mouse attached via the USB ports, as well as the key USB of BCA. No other attached devices.
    • Reset memory NVRAM, SMC and ran more than once disk utility. No problem not reported.  Ran NVRAM reset before each attempt.
    • At ran EtreCheck report which seemed OK.
    • Verification of diagnosis ran who is childless.

A detail I noticed after the merger by car there are now two Macintosh HD images when you use boot option. One previously. Are named "Macintosh HD" and "Macintosh HD2". I remember being Yosemite simultaneously in three, but which has been fixed in an update.

In addition, it seems that no recovery partition. Cmd + R lance Internet recovery.

ON the clean install OS X 10.11.4 it is back to be fast as usual and all tests show things are OK but W10 goes on the part of the HARD drive. No way to verify this beyond diagnosis or Etrecheck?

Q5: Y at - it no problem with the GPT / MBR that may be causing the delay etc. ?

Q6: How can I use my existing WindowsImageBackup backup from the previous W10 with the BCA install usb drive or how to create a USB stick otherwise recovery disk with my other single Mac have W7?

Q7: How can I install W8 as I once did on Yosemite, via el Capitan without a mistake to TPG on selection of disc?

    Details:

    Day 5. Attempt at 6.

Partition Boot Camp delete and try again install via BCA. First question, is that when the startup it goes to a blank black screen. For a time nothing left. Reset then using alt to select windows training results in almost instantaneous startup of the BCA message created and the beginning of the installation.

4 1/2 hours from start of Windows 10 initial signature window.

Then the second question. One to reach the Boot Camp update Office tries to start and install the drivers. Allows you to "list files...". "stage then sits at the bar about 5% green for 1 to 2 hours and does nothing. All actions in the Office of the W10 takes ages.

In the meantime, auto update of the W10 appears a message saying that the updated graphics drivers as one of the few messages or actions during this period. Looks like Nvidia install with the entire package of experience (unwanted) etc. and very probably not the correct gpu driver.

Finally deciding to cancel the installation of BC by killing the Setup.exe process. Then copy Boot camp install files on the desktop. Lasts 30 minutes to copy. Run again and this time, although taking 15-20 minutes to download and install later with the success message.

Check the graphic driver it shows a yellow exclamation mark, so the following Microsoft instructions I use the uninstall option via the device and then Manager (slowly) come on board to load and download the latest Nvidia driver on their site for the GTX 780 M for 64-bit W10 etc. The same thing that I had used previously. Slow with running the Nvidia Setup program again, but eventually it works only to say that he could not install as unrecognized graphics device...

He ends up with Microsoft PnP driver so it's at least sufficient start and run it again BC of the figure updates as all other drivers have been installed. To restart, but I get an error of K-Mode that is most likely related to this driver graphic and not possible to start in the new W10 Boot Camp partition after 7 hours.

I have a picture of W10 backup recovery (WindowsImageBackup) I've had in a few weeks, but it will not install bet for the installed W10. I try with the ACO created the USB windows but can't seem to get a way to get into recovery mode and to get the menu to install it. I don't have a way to create a USB W10 recovery key now because my other Mac has just installed W7.

Finally I tried to count a reset of the Recovery boot up option but it seems that it will take longer to start.

I also went to the recovery and selected Boot Mode safe, but it opens on an empty black window and he's here doing nothing.

Looks like I'll have to restart on via BCA and reinstall and try and solve the problem of graphics in order to install driver updates from BC and restart to W10 and hope that with the drivers, it returns to the operation and the normal starting time. Then update the gpu driver.

I used and installed Boot Camp several times with over the years including previously an upgrade of W8.1 > W10 I used for over 6 months without problem. I've never known these installation very long or ice once in Windows even for the initial start upward.

For any help or suggestion would be appreciated, and this seemingly simple process has now expanded to five days.

He resolved myself: had to convert the GPT MBR partitioning system.

As this community seems inactive, I'll post like how to convert to GPT:

NOTE: You will need any installation of Windows DVD for this. I used Windows 7 DVD.

    1. first activate the legacy from BIOS support. (Press F10 to enter the BIOS settings)

    2. Insert the Windows installation DVD, and then press F9 to change startup options. Boot from the CD/DVD drive.

    3. once the loads of installation, select the "Repair Windows" option, located at the lower left corner.

    4. find the command prompt and run these commands:

    DISKPART

    LIST DISK

    SELECT DISK 0

    CLEAN

    CONVERT A GPT

  • 5.1 or 5.5 want start after successful installation.

Try to install 5.1 or 5.5 on a Lenovo M78. I put a compatible network card and install it without error. Then I restart the computer and get error 1962 found no operating system. I found this on the site of Lenovo ( POST 1962 error after installing VMWare ESXi - ThinkCentre, ThinkStation ) and makes what he says without change. Has anyone came across this and got a fix for this.

This could be either a problem with the BIOs, not being able to boot from GPT or a setting in the BIOS as mentioned in the link you posted. If you can not solve this problem with a parameter/update of the BIOS, you can try to install ESXi with a rather than forcing GPT MBR partition table. To do this press Shift-O in the splash screen when you are prompted and add formatwithmbr to the command line.

  • Extend 3.46 VMFS greater than 2 TB

    Hello

We have an environment virtualized with two ESX 4.1.0 (988178) hosts and a (based on the IBM DS3512 SAS) external storage.

On the external storage, we have a VMFS (version 3.46, block size of 4 MB) of tuberculosis 1.95.

We have added a 600 GB disk to the DS3512 to extend the LUN to 2.79 to about... LUN expansion, at the storage level, went ok. If we check the properties of the storage card to the adapter connecting to the LUN SAS, we see that it detects the new size (2.79 TB LUN).

Since the vCenter, we went to one of the ESX 4.0 host, see storage, right clicked on the storage and choose Properties. Is there an active button to "increase...". ». If we click on that we get an error saying message.

Call 'HostDatastoreSystem.QueryAvailableDisksForVmfs' to object "datasotreSystem-28"in vCenter Server 'SRVVC' failed." --.

After that, we get an empty window extension so we can continue...

I guess're missing us something and I ask some advice. We have expanded VMFS before but they were below the limit of 2 TB, and it was pretty easy.

How to make we can broaden the VMFS to the maximum size of the LUN (2.79 TB).

    Any suggestions?

    Ciao and thanks in advance

    Alessandro

The upgrade of VMFS3 VMFS5 is a matter of seconds and can be done online.

Before you begin the upgrade, please make sure that all the components (host, storage) are supported (see VMware Compatibility Guide) by the new version, do not run a question in another!

Basically, the first step is to upgrade the server vCenter Server (ensure interoperability with the hosts to the VMware product interoperability matrix), followed by the ESXi hosts. Once all hosts running ESXi5 you can update the data store (Configuration-> storage) by clicking on the link "upgrade to VMFS5... ». Once improved, you should be able to increase the data store (maximum is of ~ 64TB). In your case, increase the datastore rearrange the LUN of the GPT MBR partition type. I didn't have the chance to try myself yet, so check again all the documents if there is something you need to take care of in this case. I suggest that - although I think it should work perfectly - make sure you have a current backup!
