  It will be interesting to know what model of laptop you have. Before trying to make a few updates to the firmware try please burn data to different media (different producers). AFAIK this optical drive very picky on media.

  Thank you for your message.  What kind of microphone do you have?  It's USB or it plug into the microphone as the speakers or headphones port?
  If it uses the headphone:
  Click "Start" > click on "Control Panel" > double-click "sounds and Audio devices".
  Select the tab "Audio".
  Under "Sound recording" you can change the default device?
  If it is USB, try the following:
  Click 'Start' > right click on 'My computer' > select 'manage '.
  Select "Device Manager".

  Here's something you can do.

  1 visit the computer manufacturer and download the latest graphic drivers Intel.

  If you're running XP, right click on the Start button go Open - start/programs and delete icon Desktop Manager from the startup folder.   I did go to Scarlett and download their fix.  It seems to work.

  I even disconnected the preamp and reconnected it while I had an open file that has always produced the glitch in the past.

  Looks like that may have supported the question!  I'll have to give the system more a road test before JC, it is an intermittent problem.
