Do you know what profile is connected to your monitor (or if a customer one has been created due to the calibration)? What you have in your color settings from the Edit menu? You have proof colors enabled in the View menu?

  The exact wording of your error message would be useful? If you have installed an another disk defragmenter?

  Most Defragmenter problem arises a disk problem. Select Start, run, type cmd and press ENTER. Type "chkdsk c: /f /r" without the quotes and press ENTER. Make sure you include the spaces indicated. Enter Y when asked if you want to run chkdsk on restart the computer. Quit and then restart the computer.

  Marking bad sectors on a hard disk takes time so be patient. Delimiting does not repair a defective sector. He places pointers to the reader by saying the system not to read or write to these areas that have been damaged.

  Did you check help-> updates to see if they are available? You probably don't have the latest version of Camera Raw that was compatible with Photoshop elements 12 installed.

  just purchased and downloaded photoshop elements 11 (to my macbook pro). whenever I try to open the package, I get an error message and cannot open it.

  Thank you for your quick response. I realized what the problem was. It was the akamai download manager related problem. something does not work with the Manager, because when I decided to download the product again using another method, I was able to open the package. I have the latest os x mountain lion. What's funny, is that I have chatted with an adobe technology 'specialist', who insisted that I was 'necessary' to download and install the package using a wired internet connection. I really didn't know the person, that's why I decided to download the product using another route. Adobe needs to better train a support technique ther and also should reconsider the use of akamai. those of you who can read this b/c, you have also the same problem I had, try to use the alternate download method. It is slower and takes longer to download than akamai, but you should be able to open your package at least.

  Thanks for the reply. I managed to solve the problem before you receive your advice to defragment my hard drive. I had the problem on / off power for about six months and defragmentation has not always been successful success so when it happens then I will go through the procedures that you have listed. I have installed and uninstalled various applications in the last six months and suspect that the register is not in optimum condition... I have a problem during a shutdown or reboot stop where I get an error of tfswctrl.exe I close and the system then hangs and requires a medical examination. Is there, by chance, a Microsoft utility that cleans up the registry for applications that have been uninstalled, but be persistent pieces that shouldn't be there?
