Suddenely import duplicates - why?

I use Lightroom 2.7 (and earlier versions) for years, and I've never had this problem before:

Time "file/import Photos from device...". ' and ' file/import Photos from Disk... ". "imported * everything * photos in the connected device or the selected folder on the my last two attempts, even if most of the photos were double and I * was * check the box"don't re - import suspected duplicates. "  When I watched the catalogue, then I saw copies of the same pictures in the same catalog directories.  In each case, several months elapsed between the original imports and duplicate.

In the case of the camera, I don't see how something on the image files would have changed.  In the case of the disc, it's a new CD - R which I transferred the images for the second time.  The images themselves have not changed, although the "Date modified" files on the CD - R has.

Latest twist: I just tried to re-importation of the same images that last, CD - R (after deletion of the duplicate in first and this time Lightroom recognized them as duplicates (of those imported months ago!) and has not re-imported.)

I checked the forum and found a similar thread at " " http://forums.Adobe.com/message/3287374#3287374 ', but it does not provide all the answers. "  I've been back up my catalog periodically, and automatic checks have never reported any problem.

Any ideas? -JClarkW

Well, no, the camera does not change the file names.

This problem could be due to a corrupted preferences file. This file can go 'funny' and is then responsible for all types of strange behavior of Lr. The repair is to replace the preferences file.

BTW: Resettlement Lr does not replace the file prefs, since it seeks to 'survive' updates.

See here for where to find the preferences for your operating system file: http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/preference-file-locations-lightroo m - 4.html

See here to see how to replace the file preferably: http://lightroomers.com/replacing-the-lightroom-preference-file/745/

LR importing from a memory card with some news and some pictures already imported. Normal operation: can't stand not duplicated. Lightroom stupid thing for pets of the day: I can't DO NOT import duplicates. I do nothing else. Hundreds of images imported as "Imgxxx_2". I haven't the time to uncheck these one at a time. Why something that suddenly stop work? LR is buggy as the typical application of 1995, or maybe something that I wrote. A shame for humanity.

Yes, it's useful. The problem is that there are so many different circumstances that can be put into play, that pinning it down to an absolutely reproducible scenario proved very difficult, for me at least. I did a ton of tests and many times has triggered a problem but happens next time I run the test. For example, using my 5DIII of Canon which has dual card slots - SD and CF - I configure to duplicate each shot, if I try to import directly from the camera attached with two cards in the slot, in theory, half of the total images should be selectable and the other half not... but often a small batch of these two sets in the middle is selected for import , but not always. End of Jao subject using a separate card reader is a good, I didn't test that. I might give it a try when I have time.

  • Overview of the need for "do not import duplicates".

Smart of Lightroom, but I do not know how, why etc how this happens:

I have the "do not import duplicates" option checked when I import new shooting sessions. My sessions are jpeg and RAW formats because that's the way I shoot (for both.) I see only one image for each shot in LR even though the RAW and jpeg are side by side in the same folder. I think that I see only the RAW image in LR. Someone here can give me a little more information on how Lightroom jpeg file name, don't even know if she has a different extension, and is also a different, but the same image file?

    Thank you

    Ken

My thoughts were "glory, Halleluja, I never have to mess with files duplicate again" (which means Raw + Jpg). I don't know if there is a way to synchronize all changes and metadata for the combo of RAW + JPEG, but for me at least, it's way more simple just create JPEG files when if and as required. Then I know that I'm pulling of the most uptodat and best source file. YMMV!

  • Lightroom not allowing me to import duplicates of tif

    Hello!

History - long boring, but I have shot and edited a number of images in lightroom, then open from lightroom in PS and made a final editing and saved as TIFF in a folder outside of lightroom.

Now, I would like to re - import these images into lightroom, but lightroom does not allow - I think because they are duplicates of images already in lightroom. However, I unchecked "Import suspected duplicates and it STILL does not." I can't understand why.

    I'm on a Mac, under 10.6.8. Lightrom 3.6 and Photoshop CS5.

I don't know how to attach a screenshot here, but essentially all of the images are 'grey' so that they cannot be checked and imported

Thanks for any help at all!

    Ellen

When you export images for editing in PS, Lightroom passes your image to Photoshop. When you save (or save as) of the PS, the resulting image is added to your catalog, even if you save to a different folder. This is why it won't let you import. You try to import a file that is already where you try to import to. It's already there, so you need not import it.

It. I saved a step in your workflow.

  • Sudden unwanted duplicates in photos

    Hello

I found that a whole bunch of photos have been reproduced in one of my folders.

The strange thing is that there are no duplicates in the 'Pictures' folder. They only appear in a date range smart folder to cover a trip I've been on and.

Duplicates are exactly the same as the originals, but they are. JPG instead of .jpg and their size is reduced (9 MB becomes 5 MB).

Can someone tell me how they appeared, and, therefore, how can I avoid this repetition?

What is the best way to get rid of the duplicates?

I imported these photos of my library of photos on my laptop on my iMac. Would that be something in this process?

There are even some pictures that I deleted that reappeared!

    Confused!

    your message is not clear

In files pictures and photos - hold it are albums or other records - and all the pictures is an album not a folder and there is no smart folders, only of the smart albums - since we cannot see you and don't have words to communicate with them using properly is important to eliminate miscommunication

Assuming you actually hear Photo Albums we need additional information

Are you sure that there are no duplicates in all Photos? PHotos of all the albums is sorted by date added, so if you import those pictures twice (probably guess what happens) the first game and the second would not necessarily together or even near the other did so all pictures one I expect that you will find a second importation of these photos - if this is correct so all you need to do is select all the photos in an import and delete them (hold down the command key and press the delete key)

Also look in the Moments of the Photo and see - once again, I hope that you will find two games there too

  • IPhoto import, duplicates Handeling

I heard that when you import an iPhoto library in pictures, Photos provides assistance to the detection and removal of the photos in the iPhoto library double.

    Is this correct?

If so, how does this work?

I tried to search for this topic, but Apple did a great job naming their new photos Photos app you get only as 1 billion hits back of a simple search.

    Thank you.

    NO.

    1. you NEVER import a library - it doesn't work and creates a huge mess

2 when you migrate an iPhoto library form the photos is not duplicate check - it migrates exactly what you have in iPhoto

    3. When you import pictures from the desktop or a camera it does not check if the duplicates

    4. you can buy controls duplicate programs - tested safe are - I suggest that you do not use an untested program because some of them damage or destroy your library

  • When importing duplicate folder

I recently got a new Macbook Pro 13 "and upgraded to LR 6, I moved my library without problem but when I import photos into a folder LR creates a duplicate outside of the original parent folder folder."  I can't move the photos in the right folder, since technically they are already there! The pictures on my hardrive are in the correct folder, but LR creates just a duplicate folder name?  Help please!

    Hi jonathanb,.

When you import the image in Lightroom, you must choose the Option 'Add' instead of copy.

    See the screenshot below.

Let us know if that helps.

    Kind regards

  • Unable to import photos, why?

Suddenly unable to import photos into LR on my mac. SanDisk of MDGS and Canon 5 d. RAW and JPG. I can see the thumbnails and fortunately, they are important in 'Photos '. I deleted the videos of the cards, but this made no difference. LR is up-to-date. The cards have been formatted. Very frustrating! This must be a problem of LR as everything else works fine.

Oh! I think that this is the solution! Weird, but I have not changed anything. I think it's the destination folder that is at fault.

    Thank you very much

  • Cannot set 'do not import duplicates presumed' default value

Seems very basic it should do. I think I have set "do not import suspected duplicates" whenever I have import photos (using Add). No there is no way to define a default?

    Thank you!!!

Mine has never been changed, it is possible that your preferences file is corrupted. You can try either rename or delete the preference file, and then try again. File locations are preferred: preference and other locations of files in Lightroom 5

  • Images inactive when I try to move them to a folder to another (no duplicates) why?

I want to spend the images from a folder to another folder in Lightroom 4.4 (you want to rename them and etc) when I go to import and choose move or add or copy all the images in the folder are not active. I deselected that do not include duplicates suspected - but it is still inactive... Do I did wrong?

Since the images have already been imported into Lightroom, you do not use import for these images. You go to the library Module (but not the import dialog box), find the images and perform all operations you want on these images quite inside Lightroom. If you want to move them, you drag and drop entirely in Lightroom.

This looks like a better idea for future imports, import them directly into the folder desired, just here using the dialog box import (where you can rename photos as well).

  • How to avoid to create images when importing duplicate?

I doubt that it is the correct method or better to import/organize my photos, because it creates additional work I would like to avoid.  I'm looking for a solution.

    I do the following:

    • Copy all my photos from my SD card in my folders organized on my external hard drive.
    • Open Lightroom and import photosfrom my external hard drive.

What happens is that Lightroom creates an image duplicated on my Mac in my pictures folder. At this point, he referred to this directory and not my external hard drive. What I end up doing deletes the pictures in my photos folder.  So I connect all my photos in Lightroom on my external drive.

As you can imagine, it becomes tedious to do this every time I have import in Lightroom.

My idea situation is Lightroom NOT to reproduce images or put them in any folder, but simply refer to those that I chose when importing to my external hard drive.

Any help would be much appreciated.

It's probably because you select the option COPY the top of import dialog when you should be by selecting the Add option.

COPY the images of copies from one place to another and to import them.

ADD add just the images in the LR catalog where they are currently.

There is also the possibility of "make the second copy to:" on the side right of the dialog import but this option is only available with either COPY it, MOVE or COPY as DNG options. You need to add the option to add images in the catalog file LR in the place where they are already on your external drive.

  • Has ceased to import. Why?

My Lightroom imported for a while with no problems.

Now when I try to import, it says I've already imported, and if I try to find them in my catalog there is nothing there.

Also, he sees all of the files in the location of the folder on my drive.

I tried to make another folder and copy my photos here. Still no luck.

    Any ideas guys.

Now when I try to import, it says I've already imported, and if I try to find them in my catalog there is nothing there.

When Lightroom tells you this, it's because (what he said), you have already imported the photos. There is no need to import them again.

You must click on "All photographs" on the left side of the library Module, and then using the filter bar, looking for one of the files by file name. When you find the file, you can perform editing or any other task on it. See the screen capture below
