Photos will detect when import duplicate photos?

I am about to help a friend import a large collection of photos (some from iPhoto, others in random places) in a library of Photos on his brand new iMac. There are probably a lot of duplicate photos, then we are interested in to find them and delete multiple copies of the same photo.

in general - but it is not always perfect

  • How to avoid to create images when importing duplicate?

I doubt that it is the correct method or better to import/organize my photos, because it creates additional work I would like to avoid.  I'm looking for a solution.

    I do the following:

    • Copy all my photos from my SD card in my folders organized on my external hard drive.
    • Open Lightroom and import photosfrom my external hard drive.

What happens is that Lightroom creates an image duplicated on my Mac in my pictures folder. At this point, he referred to this directory and not my external hard drive. What I end up doing deletes the pictures in my photos folder.  So I connect all my photos in Lightroom on my external drive.

As you can imagine, it becomes tedious to do this every time I have import in Lightroom.

My idea situation is Lightroom NOT to reproduce images or put them in any folder, but simply refer to those that I chose when importing to my external hard drive.

Any help would be much appreciated.

It's probably because you select the option COPY the top of import dialog when you should be by selecting the Add option.

COPY the images of copies from one place to another and to import them.

ADD add just the images in the LR catalog where they are currently.

There is also the possibility of "make the second copy to:" on the side right of the dialog import but this option is only available with either COPY it, MOVE or COPY as DNG options. You need to add the option to add images in the catalog file LR in the place where they are already on your external drive.

  • When importing duplicate folder

I recently got a new Macbook Pro 13 "and upgraded to LR 6, I moved my library without problem but when I import photos into a folder LR creates a duplicate outside of the original parent folder folder."  I can't move the photos in the right folder, since technically they are already there! The pictures on my hardrive are in the correct folder, but LR creates just a duplicate folder name?  Help please!

    Hi jonathanb,.

When you import the image in Lightroom, you must choose the Option 'Add' instead of copy.

    See the screenshot below.

Let us know if that helps.

  • How to select the photos I want to import in the import Windows 7 Wizard, and how to change their name to a group of the name custom when importing?

Has features missing from Windows XP in Windows 7?

I'm doing a simple import of photos using the option 'Import pictures and videos using Windows' native Autoplay.

In Windows XP, I could choose what images to import and give them all the basic name custom during the import process, with each photo added later with a "001", "002" etc using the scanner and Camera Wizard.  It is very convenient because it could have been hundreds of photos on some of my cards from a long period of shots, I could run the tool more than once for different groups of photos that I would choose Import, and the pictures would be get named sequentially and stored in their files you want immediately.  I imported thousands of photos in this way.

This new tool for Windows 7 allows me to add tags to all of the photos on the cards and devices and name photos after their date, or on the label, or other combinations of that... but why doesn't this new tool in Windows 7 suppose I want to import every single photo on the card device / I just connect and more that I want them all to have the same tag assigned to them?  It's stupid and useless - there, makes only has pictures of a theme on their card at any time that they connect to import their photos and always wants to import everything each time?

To illustrate this point, let's look at my current situation.  I'm just on vacation in Europe and took pictures to more than one place, I visited, of course and now I would like to mark photos with the location of the names individually... or even more, I would like to actually name photos when importing with the name of the place in the picture.  Scanner and digital camera Assistant & would do that, no problem - you just had to run the tool once for each different group name, then select the appropriate images to import with the same group name.  It has been easy.  This type of naming is far superior to the addition of tags to images named simple-list or date-wise because you can tell what the image file in your library that you want to open just by going to (or get) the group name.  Want to see pictures of St. Peter's Basilica?  If you named the photos with that (added with 001, 002 etc), then simply browse to that name in your folder of photos «The Italy, holiday 2010»  Without trying to find photos Tags into the sea by the name of "IMG20100324005" - soup and no program Photo Gallery Windows Live Photos or necessary Picasa.

This new program in Windows 7 for the import of images does not appear to be able to handle the very handy feature of its predecessor Windows XP.  It's very frustrating to have opted for the version of Windows newer and supposed to be 'better' but find several programs that have been very useful for XP have valuable features removed or are no longer present at all (like how Windows 7 is no longer a Clipboard Viewer - that has great idea that is?).

So is it possible to recover the image import feature I apparently lost by 'redevelopment' of Windows Windows 7?  I could of course go and buy an image import and edition program (Smart Photo Import very nice for the price, a quick search I just do), but as this feature was native in Windows XP it is still stupid to have to buy a 3rd party simply program now because Microsoft does not understand the idea of keeping popular features in their software and seems rather "he dumb down.

Any help to select the pictures I want to import and naming them when importing with a custom group name using the import wizard would be greatly appreciated... + 10 GB of photos and videos of this trip is sitting & waiting for a solution!

  • LR 2.3 freezes when importing from CF card reader photos

We use LR for some time.  Repeatedly noticed when import a few hundred new photos than LR 2.3 will freeze for importing photos from a CF card reader (Lexar Professional Player and Lexar CF cards).  The computer must be rebooted which causes corruption catalogue and had to start all over again. I use an iMac (3.06 GHz Intel processor dual core) with 4GBs of RAM and 800 GB HARD drive.  All the operating system software are uptodate.  I was wondering if others have the same problem and what, if any, work arounds could be out there.  Adobe does not have this problem on their Web site.

Image capture is an application that ships with Mac OS X. It can be used to control what happens during a reconnaissance of the card, but it is not necessary. I have my Mac configured to simply use Finder to copy maps, if for some reason, I use LR.

I think that once you reformat your card, you may find LR will very well be important.

  • Improve when importing photos

In the opening that you used to be able to apply-auto-enhance photos like they were imported.  This has saved be a job having to do it later.  I am also pleased with the results of her auto-améliorer in 99% of situations.  I have now taken pictures but I don't see a similar option on import - no one knows if it is available?  Also and if not possible when importing - y at - it a suite of choice a lot of pictures and then applying the setting to improve in bulk?

    Thanks in advance.

There is no automatic to apply when importing adjustment.

And you can't batch apply adjustment either. It is limited compared to the opening.

What you can do, however, is to adjust a photo you like.  Then copy ⇧⌘C and paste this setting for a different picture with ⇧⌘V

You must be in edit mode to be able to copy and paste adjustments.  But you can use the arrow keys to advance to the next photo, without leaving edit mode.

  • LR5: time offset when importing photos - why?

Import my pictures from the camera with storage in folders by date. Now, I've discovered that photos taken before midnight are stored in the folder for the next day.

After a review, I found that the time displayed when you move the pictures in the import dialog are always displayed with an offset of + 2:00 for the real time (such as described in the camera) when the photo was taken. So all photos taken after 22:00 are stored in the folder for the next day.

My conclusion is that LR obviously takes the offset from the UTC time zone (in my case: THIS summer, which is UTC + 2) when importing photos. I remember having that first saw on travel in New Zealand last year when import photos on my PC that I had put to the local time zone on a trip, so this shift was 12 hours.

When viewing the photos later in the module library or development, the time is displayed correctly, so obviously drawn "like what" EXIF/XMP.

Is this a known issue? I could not find a place in the LR settings to control this behavior.

It is a very old bug, which has never been set. The simple solution is to import from a card reader, not a camera directly connected. The insect bites only during the import of the camera.

Image capture metadata must be perfectly OK, so no need to change anything here, it is only the name of the folder that is affected by the bug.

  • LR 4 and 4.1 can't create new folder manually when importing photos

    Windows 64, i7, 12 GB of RAM

I don't seem able to create a new folder manually when importing photos.  It still works fine on the same PC with LR3.6.  Anyone else seeing this?  Thank you.

    nonewfolder.jpg

Yes, I'm on Win7. I can get the result that you specify.  I right click on the folder name in LR and then choose "Create a new folder."  This shows the dialog box windows.  If I then right-click in the right pane and select new > folder, I get a new folder empty in the right pane and can type the name, then select this folder.  If, instead of click with the right button in the right pane, I try to type the name of the new folder in the bottom of the dialog box where it says "file:" then I get this error message. That's what I mean by saying that the process has changed slightly in the LR4.

  • 6.3 Lightroom (Mac) freezes when importing

    Hi all

Due the fact that Apple has stopped development of opening I had to do a switch after several years of feeling 100% comfortable with an opening. After some research, it became clear that most of the people would recommend Lightroom. So I bought a copy.

Import of my opening book is very well and included all my projects and notes (very important!). So far so good.

Now, I tried to import photos newly shot of my Nikon D7100. Tried with the cable. Tried with the SC card in my Macbook Air. Lightroom still freezes when importing or is back with the 'message' that none of the pictures could be read.

Returned to the opening. Connected to the camera. Quick import and 100% OK.

I can't believe that Adobe releases a new version with such a major problem... Very frustrating... want my money back!

Can anyone help? Is that a known issue - the fixes proposed in the forums don't work not (import options)? Will there be an update to Lightroom soon?

    Thank you!

    Config:

-Macbook Air 2012, 1, 7GHz Intel Core i5, 4 GB RAM, 480 GB SSD Jetdrive (45 GB free event with library, Aperture and Lightroom to 150 GB each)

    -Mac OS 10.11.2

    -Adobe Lightroom 6.3

Yes, please try to import images to another location.

Also, make sure that you have read and write access on the location where you import the images.

  • Lightroom CC 2015.3 crashes when importing

Since I've upgraded to version 2015.3, I can import is more photos.  I tried to import from SD card and a hard drive, but both show the same failure.

    I am running Windows 7.

First of all, when I start the import process, the display of the grid does not display previews of new photos.  If I double-click on a photo, he will show me the preview in full screen.  It shows previews of older photos I've already imported.  But in the grid, the new photos are all white.

Then, I select copyand allow to Rename the files as I always do.  When I click on the import button, I get the screen of importation, that says "import...". "The status bar in the top left says" copy and import photos ", and the progress bar starts about 2/3 full.  It remains there, but no matter how long wait.  Occasionally, I get a handful of imported photos, but most of the time, no pictures are imported.

When I give up and click on the X to cancel, a popup says, "no photos or videos not found to import.

I also supported my catalog, thinking that the optimization step might help.  But it did not help.

I also tried to import into a new catalog, but that did not help.

To hang when importing - Lightroom Forums, I found:

Hi, I encountered the same problem with LR 6.3 autonomous and it fixed when I connected in Adobe Creative cloud before running Lightroom.

I started the creative application of Cloud, and I was not signed in.  I registered, and the import was successful.

So I think that was the problem: I was not connected to the cloud to create, at least as far as the cloud app was concerned.

  • Why do I get no longer previews generated when importing with LR 3.4.1?

Problem: This week when importing a batch of 900 + photos all appear in the library as grey boxes (no previews).  I still see excerpts from all my photos already imported and the nine are normally visible, in which they are seen with other programs (e.g., Canon Zoombrowser, my images).

Also, when I close LR3 and select the backup option I get the error "Lightroom has encountered an error when you try to read his preview cache and needs to stop smoking - Lightroom will attempt to solve this problem, the next time it starts.  After clicking OK to the LR3 pop-up error freezes and does not close, it runs only with Lightroom (not responding) on the top of the window.

Environment: Windows Vista Home Premium, Lightroom 3.4.1 photos are digital DSLR 7 d and Canon 40 D raw CR2 format. The catalog is on a 2 TB external USB drive connected to my laptop Lenova Thinkpad.

I have more 40 000 pictures in my catalog, more of the same photo, and I REALLY want to start over or having to regenerate the insights that a lot.

I tried import using both copy and copy as DNG with the same result - not found in the library.

Tried to import via a USB card reader and a USB memory card after moving them to the card memory to another laptop - same result.

Tried to manually select some photos and standard previews new rendered, LR3 begins rendering by the status in the upper left box, but no progress toward generating a preview in the library mode.  He's right there.

I can see the pictures in mode develop when I chose one to view AND, it seems, to stay there when I move back to the library.

But, when I try to close LR3 (with the above error / crash) and restart it, the previews generated in mode develop disappeared.

Is there a relatively simple solution to this?  I had not run into this all using previous levels of LR3.

    Thanks a bunch!

    Jim

    Jim,

It seems that your preview cache has become corrupted. He has a record that lives in the same folder as your catalog named .lrdat. Try to rename it to something else and then running Lightroom. You can now generate previews that you couldn't before? If you can, you can then restore your previews and delete the cache of your old preview (the file that you renamed).

Now happy to be able to import photos and videos - but I still have no idea why I had problems with importing directly from my iPad and what means the "com.apple.ImageCaptureCore" error - 9905...

  • Problem with the back up when import

If I understand correctly, when I choose to send a second backup copy during the stage imort LR3 sends a copy of the parameters and not a copy of the image itself, a separate backup should be so the image. I understand that correctly? This system applies to all files or just for the Raw files?

The reason for these questions is because when I imported an image images recently the image backup file content and not the text. This problem occurred when I was attmepting to merge all my pictures and images in a single catalog. There may be files were worked on in LR2, some on LR3, some may have been worked in LR2 and then set up-to-date for LR3, I can't remember which.

One of the factors that can affect the problem is that I chose the preference to incorporate the settings jpeg and Tiff files. Would be - it then cause jpeg files to save as image rather than in text format?   If so that would mean that he only then would be required to make a separate backup of jpeg files?

Please help as I have to many problems of compiling a master catalog!

    Lol you do not understand.

The second copy made when importing is a second copy of the image file, whether raw or jpeg. This second image is probably best thought of as a temporary backup until your imported photos make your regular backup rotation. This is consistent with the practice of always have at least two copies of your images, and it allows you to reformat your card.

To save your changes, it is necessary to back up your catalog. The option of Lightroom to save it by leaving allows the backup take place once the catalog was closed in a known good state.

There are a lot of good tutorial material available on the web. It is a good starting point.

  • Push on the wifi notification will detect the BIS or BES

    Hello

I joined the push RIM services and I have succedded receive the push in my application when BIS or BES is enabled.

Recently, I discovered that in some application like, WhatsApp, we can receive push notification when the wifi is enabled for the event blackberry sim card is not inserted in this phone (which means that no BIS or BES is enalbed).

We want this feature to our society.

Do you know what is the solution to receive the push on the wifi will detect the BIS or BES in the blackberry phone?

I'm sorry if my English is so bad.

Push requires BIS or BES. You must ask the developers of the application that you are using for more information on how they establish connections without pushing.
