Surveillance of the transmission rate of the network under Vista.

It was, such as Windows NT and Windows 2007 and Windows XP, you can monitor the use of band network bandwidth through a small applet that is usually stored in the taskbar of the Windows graphical interface.  Now with Windows Vista (and I suspect the same is true for Windows 7), this cmdlet is no longer available.  I guess Microsoft thinks I need a nanny.

So, first of all, what happened to this cmdlet.  Why withdrew?

Second, how to access this applet (or a tool in the same way) to Vista (and Windows 7).

Thank you for your kind attention to this issue.

You can activate the animation of the network by right clicking on the network icon in the Notification area and it begins to blink based on usage - but it's what he'll do.  It does not see bandwidth usage or anything like that.

I looked and could not find any replacement tool - Vista (it's safe) or as a 3rd party application (although there may always be a out there – you can try the search yourself).

I don't know what happened or why it was removed - but it happened and there is not much we can do about it.

The only option I can suggest is to download something like http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=983b941d-06cb-4658-b7f6-3088333d062f&displaylang=en and put a shortcut on the toolbar for quick access and when you want to check, just open the program and you will have all the monitoring network of the information you could want.  It is not the same thing as what you want, but it's the best I could come up with after nearly an hour of research.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

    Hi Jim,.

    ·         Is file sharing enabled?

    ·         You have disabled password protection?

Try to check the Advanced sharing settings in the network and sharing Center. To do this, follow these steps.

    a. click Start, Control Panel and then click network and sharing Center.

    b. now, click change advanced settings for sharing.

    c. now make sure that file and printer sharing is activated on and protected by password sharing is turned off.

At the same time, the laptop Vista appears in computers on the XP network and is accessible from there. I have already applied Windows XP - SP3 hotfix KB 922120 to XP laptop and checked the firewall on both machines (Exceptions) settings, and they seemed OK. Also, I checked the HKML restrictanonymous DWORD value data value data (0) of the XP machine.

Can someone help me with this? Thank you so much in advance.

    Hello
    Maybe this can help.

To get best results connect to each computer system screen and set all the computers to be on a bearing the same name of Working Group , while each computer has its ownunique name.

    http://www.ezlan.NET/Win7/net_name.jpg

Make sure that the software firewall on each computer allows free local traffic. If you use 3rd party Firewall on, Vista/XP Firewall Native should be disabled, and the active firewall has adjusted to your network numbers IP on what is sometimes called the Zone of confidence (see part 3 firewall instructions

    General example, http://www.ezlan.net/faq.html#trusted
Please Note that some 3rd party software firewall continue to block the same aspects it traffic Local, they are turned Off (disabled).
If possible, configure the firewall correctly or completely uninstall to allow a clean flow of local network traffic.

If you end up with the 3rd party software uninstalled or disabled, make sure that Windows native firewall is active .

When you have finished the configuration of the system, it is recommended to restart everything the router and all computers involved.

    -------------

If you have permission and security issues with Vista/Win7, check the following settings.

Point to a folder that wants to share do right click and choose Properties.

    In the properties

Click on the Security tab shown in the bellows of the photo on the right) and verify that users and their permissions (see photo below Centre and left) are configured correctly. Then do the same for the authorization tab.

This screen shot is to Win 7, Vista menus are similar.

    http://www.ezlan.NET/Win7/permission-security.jpg

The Security Panel and the authorization Panel, you need to highlight each user/group and consider that the authorization controls are verified correctly.

When everything is OK, restart the network (router and computer).

    * Note . The groups and users listed in the screen-shoot are just an example. Your list will focus on how your system is configured.

    * Note . All the users who are allowed to share need to have an account onall computers that they are allowed to connect to.

Everyone is an account, that means a group of all users who already have an account now as users. It is available to avoid the need to configure permission for each on its own, it does not mean all those who feel that they would like to connect.

    Hello

It would be a good idea to run the System File Checker tool to see if you have corrupted files

"How to use the System File Checker tool to fix the files on system missing or corrupted on Windows Vista or Windows 7"

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833

Use the (SFC.exe) System File Checker tool to determine which file is causing the problem and then replace the file. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click principally made programs, Accessories, right-click guest, and then click run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click allow.
    2. Type the following command and press ENTER:
      sfc/scannow

The sfc/scannow command analyzes all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions.

    And Malware scan:

Search for malware, if necessary using the safe mode with networking.

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/how-to-start-Windows-in-safe-mode/#Vista

    Windows Vista

    Using the F8 method:

    1. Restart your computer.

    3. Select the Safe Mode with networking with the arrow keys.
    4. Then press enter on your keyboard to start mode without failure of Vista.
    5. To start Windows, you'll be a typical logon screen. Connect to your computer and Vista goes into safe mode.
    6. Do whatever tasks you need and when you are done, reboot to return to normal mode.

Then, download, install, update and scan your system with the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware in Mode safe mode with networking:

    Hi Sudieq,

Are you facing this problem under Windows 98? If so, please see the information provided below.

Microsoft ended support for Windows 98, Windows 98 Second edition and Windows me on July 11, 2006. Because they are outdated and these older operating systems can expose customers to security risks. We recommend that customers who are still running Windows 98 or Windows Me upgrade to a newer, more secure Microsoft operating system.

    Check out the link:

Windows 98, Windows 98 Second edition and Windows Millennium Edition Support ends on July 11, 2006

  • How to use the Explorer under Vista? Like in XP, I was able to change the 'view' of all the files that have been hidden.

I want to change the view and see all the files.  Reason is to move files from one hard disk to another instead of doing the method of file transfer.

Go to start / Control Panel / folder Options / view and scroll down and check the box to show the hidden files and folders.  In addition, uncheck to hide system files. In addition, uncheck to hide extensions of known file types (the last because it can be useful and worth while you're brings other changes).  Your problem should be solved.

    I hope this helps.

Here is a link to how to restore Vista zip file association: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/65254-zip-file-support-restore.html this should restore for compressed files zip file association and hopefully remove of open file (but which may take another measure).

Here is another link on how to enable and disable the files compressed in Vista: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/93827-zip-file-compressed-folders.html.

Here is a link on how to restore default binding settings in Vista: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/233243-default-file-type-associations-restore.html. This should also restore default associations of open files that include no zip.

Between these three links, you should be able to restore files zip compressed file association and not with open files - indeed, return things to their default settings.

As others have mentioned, you can be infected. You must perform a full scan, it can be useful to run a malware scan as well to be sure.

If you don't have an antivirus, you can watch in Microsoft Security Essentials, which is free: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/security_essentials/default.aspx

Note that some anti-virus programs will prevent or cause issues when you install an antivirus, in these cases, you can try searching for an online scan see if that can remove the virus before you install a full-time BC
