Is it possible to switch from Windows XP to Windows 7 on my Toshiba Satellite M40X-183?

    Hello

Theoretically, you can do everything, but you know how old your laptop is? In my opinion Windows 7 isn't the first choice for good old classic. It of designed for Windows XP and you should be satisfied with this OS.

In my opinion, Windows XP is the best choice for old books, that they are not designed for Windows 7.

  • How can I migrate thunderbird from ubuntu to windows 7

I'm not bad with the computer stuff, but I'm having trouble to my Thunderbird of Linux Mint profiles migration to Windows 7. I looked at several forums, but the reviews are either comprehendable or simply not what I'm looking for. Can you help me please. So far, I copied everything to do with Thunderbird, including profiles and stuff from .ini to Linux on a flash drive but don't know what to do next.

    Thank you

    Win7 machine:
Install Thunderbird and performed for the first time create a profile but create no e-mail accounts.

Reveal the hidden files and folders.

At this point, I would say that you enable all toolbars, as most of aid refers to them and not all the tools are accessible via the 3 menu bar icon.
Note that you do not have to do it's up to you, but it is more convenient.
    See the image below.

    • 3 menu bar icon > Options

    Select:

    • Menu bar
    • E-mail toolbar
    • Status bar
    • Quick filter bar

    Now access the profile folder:

    • Help > troubleshooting information
    • Click on the view file"" button.

a new window opens to display the content of your new profile folder.

    • Close Thunderbird now - this is important.

The new profile folder name will be called something like this:
default, where the x are letters and numbers.
It will look like the second image below.

    • Delete the content of the new name for the profile folder that you just created, so that you have an empty default folder.
    • Locate your backup of Linux Mint from your profile folder. Copy.Paste the contents of the old profile folder (all its files and subfolders - not the record real name profile) in the profile empty folder name.
    • Restart Thunderbird.

If everything seems ok so you're running.

  • Switching from XP to Windows 7 on my Satellite M30

    Hello...

I have a Satellite M30 with XP and you want to clean install Windows 7.
I think that this is possible, but I noticed that Toshiba does not support my model (M30) for his DVD to upgrade to windows 7 that wants to say I can't do?
Has anyone successfully clean not unhooked W7 from XP on satellite M30 laptop?

    Hi mate

Toshiba does not support Win 7 on M30 t but it is not meant that you can not install this OS on the M30 Sat.

I installed Windows 7 on my laptop that is not Win 7 supported and everything is OK!
Of course it took some time until that all drivers have been collected, but this isn't a big pain

You can check this Toshiba HowTo doc that should help you to find the right driver for Win 7

This allows to identify the unknown devices and to check the drivers!

    Hi WmRedfield,

There is no way valid update from Windows XP to Windows 7. You need to perform only custom installation. Once the custom to make install, we don't have to worry about Upgrade Advisor and can even ignore, however, must ensure that the hardware supports windows 7.

    Hello

Depends on hardware configuration required on later operating systems, and also find out if the manufacturer of the laptop computer is supported and provides drivers for operating systems later as to whether it is possible or feasible to upgrade or not.

There is no update free from XP to Vista, 7, 8.1, or 10.

Forget Vista as support extended for Vista SP2 will end April 2017.

Follow these steps before you buy Windows 7; Windows 7 SP1 to support extended to January 14, 2020.

Microsoft sells more than 7; Try Amazon.com.

Go to your computer / computer laptop manufacturer Web site and see if Windows 7 drivers are available for your make and model computer / laptop.

If this is not available, Windows 7 will not properly work for you.

  • Switching from XP to Windows & Professional 32 bit of disk to reinstall Dell computer Dell laptop, no

I bought what I thought, it was a professional Windows 7 operating system from a supplier online. I got a Dell reinstallation DVD for Windows 7 Professional SP1 32 - Bit, in a sealed envelop Dell P/N 04DTND, complete with the Microsoft COA sticker on this issue with a product key. Can I use this disc to upgrade my Dell laptop no XP to Windows 7?

No, sorry, but its OEM version and the product key is for Dell computers only. It can run for a short period, but will then "Non-genuine". Also, the device drivers does not match what you need for your PC.

Turn on the printer but not brancher plug into USB port, install the downloaded driver and connect the USB for the guest.

  • Can I switch from xp to windows 8 without losing my personal files?

I intend to go to 8, 8.1 not.  I will be using the download from the Web Microsoft Store site rather than using a DVD copy. Not sure if I need to back up personal files?

    Thank you.

If you are upgrading Windows XP, you will only be able to bring along your personal files. But as I mentioned earlier, if something should go wrong during the upgrade, you may lose all your files. An ounce of backup protection is worth a pound of unrecoverable files!
