T61 power - on password (new)

Hi people,

My previous thread has been locked by the admin when I asked on this subject so this time I'll try to ask more specific questions. Following the advice of the admin, I call Lenovo and support according to the agent, you talk with the support is very hit and Miss Atlanta.

In any case they said that the machine has a defined somewhere supervisor password that is different from the power on password. To my knowledge, all passwords are the same. The officer also indicated that there may be a way to force the machine at startup by using the supervisor password. Some things are still confusing, so here are my questions:

1 can be the same as the password works the supervisor password?
2. in the boot process, I see the password prompt (screen and padlock icon) power on. The supervisor password would work here?
3. If so, is there a way to change the command prompt to prompt password supervisor (the man and the padlock icon)?
4 are - that the procedures in the manual (p. 33) hardware never not in special circumstances? Why when I remove the battery always make a deal of password?

I hope that these questions can be answered to help me understand the specificities of supervisor and turn on passwords.

Thanks in advance...

Hi people,

I just wanted to write again with an update. Please the password was actually different from pop. In addition, when you disable the POP, it made clear in the system, but the start icon is still the icon of POP in expectation of the UDC, he never shows an icon please. Once I had I was able to clear the SVP successfully.

Hope this helps someone...

  • T61 power on password

We have the image & set up a certain Lenovo pc for use here in the United Kingdom.

All laptops have an Admin password and a Power On password set in the bios.

The POP password always follows the same format by using 7 characters.

I've set up a batch of 4 portable computers T61 (model Type 7661-W3S), one of them refuses to accept the POP 7 character password.

If I do 6 figures or less it works Ok, with this and just as disabled, very strange

It must be defined as 7 digits so I can't send the laptop unless I have found this

I've just updated the bios using the bootable CD method, but it has not changed this error.

I also tried not to define the length of the password by using the function of the value of minimum length, once again no effect

    All have ideas on this?

    Thanks for your help

    Ed

Don't worry too much about this people, I photographed another laptop, tried the same POP password and that you will not accept either.

I tried a different password of 7 digits and it worked Ok (it was after raising a support with Lenovo call).

Tried a different password on the first laptop and that worked fine as well.

So, for what reason he dislikes the particular number in that I wanted to.

    Weird

I closed the support call and used a different password

    Hello

I need a recovery of power on the laptop next.

    HP 15 - p099nd / sn: [personal information deleted]

For the moment, I had a system disabled with the following code: DF0B86C

    Thank you!

    Hello

Your laptop is to produce a code hexadecimal halt which is stored in the ram as a 'one stop' and is recalculated after a reboot.  This indicates that you have a FRIEND bios later and unfortunately none of the current code generators will work - surprisingly, you can usually always remove power on password of the machine by removing the cell RTC (leave the connected Power Board) then hold down the power button for 60 seconds before reinserting the RTC.

The bad news is that the RTC is on the 'wrong' side of the motherboard so will require a lot of disassembly - see Page 127 of your Service and maintenance Guide.

The only other option would be to Contact HP in this regard.

    @Momoko

    You are welcome

You can remove the need for a power on password as follows.

Shut down the laptop - if you're running Windows 8/8.1, do it by holding down the button SHIFT left click Shutdown to temporarily prevent a hybrid boot.

Now on TAP the ESC key as soon as you press the power button to access the start menu, then select f10 to open the Bios menu.  Use the arrows to select the Security tab and press ENTER.  Use the arrow keys again to highlight the power on password and press ENTER.  Enter the current password (use the current code you have) and then the new password, simply leave this blank and press on enter - do the same for the confirmation field.  Press f10, select this option to save the new settings and press to enter.

    Hello

I think you're talking about the BIOS password...
Bad new budd... the password of BIOS should be removed by Toshiba ASP.

You may not remove if you forgot!

Then, contact the local ASP and ask for later handling.

    Good bye
