Table of contents of decorative Style - extend outward

Hi all

I have a class in which I am using the Table of contents (TOC). I try to maintain the maximum screen real estate and have chosen the style of layering (so that the user can show/hide the TOC using the buttons in the top left and bottom right of the screen).

When appears in the Table of contents, it expands on the content of the slide. Is there a widget or another way to force the Table of contents to expand outwards, and not cover the content of slide?

I know that I can partially achieve my goal by choosing the distinct style. However, I still want to give to the learner the possibility to show/hide the table of contents. It is difficult for me to say, the resolution of the project decreases when the table of contents with the distinct style are used?

Version: Captivate 5.5

Thanks for your time and your answers.

When you use the table of contents separate the total width of the project is increased to account for the width of the table of contents.

There is no option to drag or move the table of contents, unless you use Overlay OCD.

As the space allocated to the screen for a separate table of contents would be empty anyway, you might as well get the advantage of having the table of contents is available at all times.

I generally use Overlay OCD because I need the extra screen real estate.  But a separate table of contents are very desirable, especially for learners who are not all in computer science.

  • Automated Table of contents using incorrect styles

    Hello

I got the InDesign to generate the table of contents for me based on the styles that I created. In most cases, this works very well except for a few cases where some of the generated elements have the applied incorrect character style.

For example, I have a paragraph called Sub header style. In the settings Table of contents window, I have subheader put in place for the TOC entry under heading style. Each time the Sub header entry appears, it theoretically should use the table of contents under heading style in the table of contents. Unfortunately, for reasons I cannot quite understand, this isn't happening. Most of the entries under the header appear correctly, using the Sub TOC header, but some of them are filling in the table of contents with adaptations of the character style that have been used in the body.

Does anyone know a way around this? If my example was not clear enough, let me know what I need to study in detail, and I'll do it.

    Dr Mitchell says:

some of them are filling in the table of contents with adaptations of the character style that have been used in the body.

It is a normal behavior. Local Overides and character styles are preserved when points are awarded to a new style. You can avoid this by using nested styles or styles built GREP style intothe defintion to apply special formatting (because they are part of the definition of paragraph style that they are not substitutions and will not be kept), or if this is not possible, you can make a topic non-printable to use instead and apply the paragraph style and then make a copy of the style and give a new name (just the base on the other model and nothing else than the name change) and apply it to one with character style replacements, so it does not appear in the table of contents.

    Which was all clear?

  • Table of contents using a style/section of the master page

I'm at the top of my head I think... and probably incorrectly to the top of my document.  I hope I can quickly explain where I am:

    Question 1

I'd like a Table of contents to use 10 section headers that appear throughout my document.  Here's how I set up:

    • In the master page, a place for the header of section and it gives a paragraph style.
    • Then, throughout the document, I used the "numbering and section options" start each new section and give this article is the unique name.

When I went to generate the Table of contents, I've specified using this particular paragraph style that I used for the section headers, but nothing appears (except for the title, I asked for the General table of contents).  It's as if this isn't to find the sections - or this style (which applies only to the master page).

    Where am I wrong?

    Question 2

I wish that my Table of contents, not numbered.  How do I do that?

    Shanell

I don't know that you understood my post. I was able to do exactly what you did - create a master page with a frame and the section marker character (indicating "section" on the master page) and then add the actual text of the marker in the numbering and section options. The text appears on the page of live document.

When I tried to do a table of contents, text was not resumed UNTIL I selected and carried this master frame on the page of the document (Ctrl + Shift + click on Windows or Cmd + Shift + click on Mac on the image that you want to replace). After substitution, the text appeared as scheduled in the table of contents.

You're right about the number of page for this page. You can use another master without a page number, or you can cancel and delete the master page number frame. I assume that you will need to use a different master for the first page and pages in any section to avoid having the marker appear on all pages, or you can replace only the first page so that you don't repeat entries in the table of contents for each page of each section.  If you use the marker as a running header Section, you can learn more about Variables header running in the help files in place. In many ways, the use of a variable can be simpler and more direct.

  • Table of contents not applying style does not correctly

I have an InDesign document of basic test with a "paragraph A Style" applied to a few main headings in the document. I created a "paragraph Style B" separate for the TOC to represent instances of a paragraph Style A. Style is set in 8pt font. Style B is set to 14pt font. When I place the Table of contents in the dialog box, I chose the Style A appear as Style B, but when I actually put the table of contents, it always appears in A Style. Any ideas as to why?

  • Pages is wrapping the row number in the table of contents

So, I have a document with two paragraph styles I want to include in the table of contents.  A style with page numbers and the other without.  So I insert a table of contents (it's in its own section, because I want the table of contents to be their own style page numbers) and I get the table of contents, but instead of text that is labeled with the style of the paragraph to the left and right page numbers, I get the text containing the tag with the style of the paragraph to the left and then click the line below (no paragraph don't symbols even if it's on the next line) a blue arrow pointing to the right in the middle of the table of contents box, then on the next line (once more no paragraph symbol), to the left I get the page number.

Anyone know what is happening or how to get the right page number on the same line as the text?

  • Table of contents, Page number on the left if the tab is too short

Sorry about the title of coplex, couldn't happen to a better.

Is there a solution to the table of contents of style then the page number never ends on the left side? Everything works fine if the topics listed in the TOC spans on one or more lines.

But if the listed topic ends exactly at the end of a line (in the table of contents), the page number appears on the left side of the next line. (I have a ^ t between the entrance and the number in the table of contents style.) If a single word in flows in the line below, the table of contents correctly adds the... (dotted) and place the pagenumber to the right.

Can I modify the paragraph Style from table of contents or TOC Style so that the number is right-aligned, even if there is no prior entry (which is on the line above).

    Example of the problem:

  • How hide the table of contents in the body of an e-book?

Hey people, I'm kind of a weird request. Do not forget that everything I know about InDesign, I taught myself for a month, so I can miss major somethng.

As an intern, I am creating ebooks and I have to make sure that those I create the same look as the ebooks previously created for my employer (better yet, I had to do it from scratch!). In their previous ebooks (EPUB file format) the table of contents posted by the ereader clearly indicates a specific style of OCD was used to create (he titles and subtitles, so it is not just the default style that draws from the file names), BUT there is NO table of contents anywhere in the body of the ebook itself. There is also no blank page where a table of contents can be hidden with a hidden layer.

I created a table of contents to match style to them, but I can't it appears in the drop-down menu Styles TOC when I go to export EPUB book file unless the document of the table of contents is also included in the book file, and as I said, I can't get the table of contents in the body of the ebook itself just in the menu that is displayed by an ereader.

    Any advice?

Did you use dialogue style of content Table to create a new style of table of contents? If so, then the new table of contents style must appear in the drop-down list TOC Style selected in the dialog box in the Navigation options to export EPUB.

  • Table of contents; Missing titles

    Hello

I have a slight problem with table of contents. ID cs using 4 6.0.6.

It include no more than 5 of the 26 items that are in my magazine. I usually just resolve this problem by manually, but I wanted this time to work as the address.

I put all the titles of articles like (title style) so it should enter this one, but then he adds only 5 of them and he adds in the style of the title even though I said it should change the style of a style (issue of body).

Which makes it look as follows:

    TOC.PNG

Instead of putting it where I want to get it, only 5 titles on more than 20 and with incorrect style in this case style of the title.

    Why would he do that?

[Edit] Is there any other information I should give to make the problem appear more clear to one who reads this?

Right. Table of contents are driven by paragraph styles, character styles no, and if you applied character for heading styles to get the desired formatting, this explains also why they did not go on the formatting you expect inside the table of contents itself.

Character styles are used to format the text isolated to a different aspect of the text surrounding in a paragraph - a kind of formatting of 'special cases '. THA basic appearance of all text in a paragraph is defined as the part of the paragraph style.

There are two ways to change the formatting for individual cases, overrides and character styles the. Styles of characters themselves are not a substitution for the paragraph style and are very powerful. Most of the time, they are used to do things like change the size, color, or the weight of the type, but not the face (but you can if you wish), to empahsize a bit of text. The advantage of these "minimalist" character styles is that they aply the attirbutes even in any face, so if you change the paragraph style to change the font, you don't need to change the font in the style of character - also if your style is just to add the "BOLD" attribute, your text will be "BOLD" If the new police force also has a weight named "BOLD".

There are complications, though, by bringing back the text with a style of character or the substitution of local formatting in a table of contents. Character styles applied and local formatting of trip with the text and are applied on top of any paragraph style is defined for FAKE ads. Fortunately, there is a way around this, and it is to apply these styles in the main text in the paragraph style using nested styles or styles GREP (a more complex topic) rather than by selecting the text specifically and apply a character style or local formatting. The styles being so left the paragraph style, they do not show in the table of contents, when you change the paragraph here (sorry if it's confusing) style.

Boittom line, well that is probalby have you just need to use a paragraph style set correctly for your headers, without adding any character style or the replacements the at all.

  • Update or create a new table of contents

    Here a strange-

Attempt to create a table of contents for a catalog-57pages... I created a specific paragraph style I used to categories of label on the top of each page of the catalogue. Then, I created a table of contents using the style of paragraph worked as advertised... Well I went through an edition almost all categories on each page I want to make it a little more accurate. I clicked on "update the table of contents" and I get: "the destination you have chosen is a hidden and already used by a different hyperlink." A hidden destination cannot be shared by multiple hyperlinks... I checked ALL categories and ensured that all text fit in the frames. I've removed the table of contents and has tried to create a new one and got the same error. Really don't know what I'm missing here as it was the ONLY thing that I did edit the categories some... In addition, I don't know of any other information that I provide here to show you the whole. I thank in advance for any help, you may be able to provide!

  • Table of contents is empty after creation

Hi all, I have a document of 50 pages I finished to set the styles and formats.  Now comes the generation of table of contents, Figures and tables.  After setting my TOC and click OK, I get the loaded text icon, click and all I get is the title of "Content" and 2 empty lines.  What I'm doing wrong here?  I tried to create the table of contents in CS3 and CS4, both gave the same results.

    toc.JPG

I got a sample file of the OP, and I spent the last hour working with her.

I had exactly the same results when you try to create a table of contents with the file as it happened, so I tried to export to .inx and no change.

Next, I added a few new pages and a new block of text and put it in a text of the sample using some of the existing styles. I managed to generate a table of new materials that had my samples, but not the op the original style with the same styles. I also noticed that my newly created text did not meet the definition of the styles, if she had no substitutions.

I've deleted and recreated one of the styles, using the original formatted to set, and then reapply the style to both the original and my test text. There was no change of fonts.

I tried to move the doc of test pages to a new document. Still no change in behavior, so I created a new doc and copied the master pages from the trial inside, then copied all the elements of the page a page of the test both doc and glued in place in the new pages in the new doc, with the correct masters applied. This required a loopback stories, but is better than starting from scratch.

Incoming text brought the styles that it used, so I added a new image with a text of test, and this time the new text appeared the same as the current text, and when I did a test TOC text both old and new have been included.

My conclusion from all this is that the original document is corrupt, and that .inx is not enough to fix it. Copying master pages, then the elements of the page on a new doc looks like it will probably fix with some work a loopback and re - create the table of contents of the styles that will not come because they are not being used (I presume) elsewhere in the document, but which is based on a very lean test and I have no idea what corrupted the original.

  • Changing the font styles in the table of contents usingpages 5.6.2

    Hello

I am writing a scientific assignment and I have some titles that contain italic characters such as: Importance of Bacillus cereus

When I create a table of contents, these italics seem to disappear and I can't do these italics without making the entire table italic material - that is not what I want.

I also have the same problem with the degrees symbol which is great script in my titles, but appears as '0' in the table of contents.

    Can anyone help please?

    Thank you!

When you build a Table of contents, Pages v5.6.2 uses a brush regular Helvetica on all text in the generated TOC. He made his farewell to all the attributes of fonts can set up for your titles and headings. We can not selectively reapply text attributes to a part of a table of contents entry.

If I use the degree symbol in the title or the title paragraph style, she survives as baseline Exhibitor in the generated table of contents. My degree symbol is entered as shift + option + 8 (on a U.S. keyboard).

  • Is it possible to change the style of table of contents directly?

    Hello

I was curious if it is possible to directly edit the table of contents style and changes persist after republishing?

I see TocWriteClassStyle in whthost.js and if I change it, the changes are visible in the table of contents. However, if I can build the project again, whthost.js is recreated blowing all changes.

I'm curious to know if there is a way to change the source to whthost.js so that when a new whthost is rendered, it is rendered with the changes? Alternatively, if this is not possible, is it possible to have the table of contents to include an additional custom stylesheet?

Ultimately what I'm trying to do, is to have more icons available in the table of contents as only the currently available 3. Book, open book, so that we can use custom icons that are associated with the subjects, but aussient of flag icons for the translated page help files. I have all the control I could want in the subjects, but the skin itself appears to be a little too locked.

I thank for taking the time to read and for all possible tracks, you may have for me.

    Hello

There is a group of what I call 'seed' files that are installed. I'm not sure of the exact file you need, but you might investigate the files inside this folder location. For me, the best way to get there is to right click on the shortcut you use to start RoboHelp. From there, you should be able to click a button or copy the location of the install folder for easy reference.

Thus, you can edit the seed file to this place and it may provide what you need.

I'd certainly save a backup to our friend Justin.

  • Table of contents, problems in applying the character style

    Hi all

This is my first post, I checked if there was already something similar, but I can't find anything so I'm asking here.

The problem I want to solve, is that I need that my table of contents automatically the value of the character style, cause, for the moment, I have to apply it after its generation.
