Tags in Windows vista and Windows Photo Gallery

I recently lost the ability to open Windows photo gallery using the desktop icon and therefore cannot organize my photos using tags.  Is it possible to restore this function?  I can access the Gallery from the extracts of 'my photos', but only in the case of date format.

No guarantee... but following Microsoft "don't fix" may be worth a try:

  • Remove the tags in Windows Photo Gallery

This question is about the photo gallery Windows on a Vista operating system. My question is about the drop-down auto-liste of tags that grows each time you enter a new tag. Handy if you want to use something you've used before but a nuisance if you want to erase it. I figured out how to remove tags on the pictures still on the computer. My question is about the images that have been deleted and is not recoverable. There is always this tag leftover junk that applied to these photos that I deleted. appears whenever you try to add a new tag and resists all efforts to remove it. I contacted gateway computer people since they installed the operating system and got the solutions really wild just to remove the unnecessary tags. I thought that everything you enter, you should be able to delete... just... but this has proved to be a great puzzle. I hate to have to do a restore to original factory specifications and lose everything I've added to this day to get rid of these pesky tags. In addition, it simply repeats the problem unless I have find how to remove the little monsters.

    I hope someone can help...

    Hi Jo,.

It's a good thing to be careful when you edit the registry.  In your case, as the registry key seems to be very specific to the Windows Photo Gallery, we can export the folder safely we are change.  Be sure to close the Windows Photo Gallery before you start.

    • Click the ball to Start .
    • Type regedit in the box start the search.
    • Navigate through the folders on the left at the following key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Gallery\Library\PreviewPane\LabelAssignment\MRU photo

    • Right click on the folder MRU in the left hand window and choose export.
    • Give it a file name (no matter what you name it) and save to the desktop.
    • In the right window, you will see keys named MRU00, MRU02, MRU03 etc...
    • Right-click on these keys and click on delete.

Once you are finished, close the registry editor by clicking the x in the upper right and restart your computer.  When she returns to the top, open the Windows Photo Gallery and see if the tags are gone.

If you receive errors of ANY opening of photo gallery, simply, do a right click on the file that you have already saved on the desktop and choose Import.  That will undo any changes that we have made.

Please let me know if that helps.

  • Windows Photo Gallery contains more photos than my pictures folder and my drive hard iomega

I'm a long-time Windows user, but an infant when it comes to the OS. I try to use a disk hard iomega for photo backup.  My windows image file contains 3542 images, the iomega contains the same number, covering a period of time, from 2002 to 2009.  My Windows Photo Gallery contains 23 000 + items covering a period from 2002 to 2011.  Before my last backup attempt, a few minutes earlier, 18000 Photo Gallery + content elements.  When I clicked on the button "Import pictures using Windows" for the iomega he said had 5169 photos to import.  I guess that Windows imported these 5169 photos in Photo Gallery when I intended to send photos to the Photo Gallery for the iomega.  Where should I look to find the missing photos for 2009 to 2011?  When I find out how to do them in Windows Photo Gallery?  How can I transfer photos from the Photo Gallery for the iomega.

    Thank you

    Gene

Photos of "only" that are actually stored by Windows Live Photo Gallery
are the unreleased original files that are saved as a backup when a picture is
edited. These are the files that replace a photo retouched then "Cancel".
    the button is pressed.

The path to the backup on a Vista system folder must be:

    Vista
    C:\Users\\Appdata\Local\Microsoft\Windows Gallery\Original photos.

The rest of the thumbnails that see you in the Gallery is just pointers to
they are saved in the pictures in the folders on your hard drive. You can check
This by clicking on a thumb in the gallery and choose "open file location".
This can help you to find photos of the "disappeared".

It is possible that some photos have been imported more than once and that
could explain the discrepancy between the total number of files.

Renaming or deleting the file of database owner should dissipate the
    several inches.

This causes WLPG create a new file
next time it is launched and will return
    WLPG to its original state.

Some tags who could not not and metadata
be rewritten on the photo, the files can be
    lost.

On your Vista system, this file would be
    Pictures.PD4, Pictures.pd5 or Pictures.pd6
(depending on your version of the gallery)

    C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\
    Windows Photo Gallery\Pictures.pd4, .pd5.
    or .pd6

It is a hidden file and you may need
    change the following settings:

Windows Vista - Show hidden files
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/Show-hidden-files

The file ends with a advanced
    Research of pd4 pd5 and pd6.

Reach... Start / Search / Advanced search.

Check the box... "include not indexed, hidden,
    and the file system"enter pd4, pd5 pd6 in the
    Name field

Rename the .pd5 .pd4 or pd6 file should
    clean your library.

    Try a click right/rename it...      Pictures.OLD
If you are not satisfied with the results... you can
Delete the new file and rename the OLD file
    Back to Pictures.pd4, .pd5 or .pd6.

  • How to delete a picture in Windows Photo Gallery tag files or specific files of photo files without deleting the image completely out of all of these places, leaving the image in one place vs. have in several places?

I'm trying to manage my photos already imported and downloaded on my computer.  There is a master "All photos and videos" folder in the Windows Photo Gallery all in the top left of this program.  Below that is a folder "Images".  Below that are "Tags" with a certain number of 'labelled' folders below.  Lower in another main 'Images' folder with a folder of the yellow file beside him icon.  Here's this file, a number of other folder also named with the file yellow folder icon next to them as well.

What I'm trying to do is manage all these photos and who want to keep a copy of an image in one of the folders of images with an icon of yellow folder next to him.  However, if I delete an image from anywhere in one of the places mentioned above, no matter which, a copy or copies of the image lies, the given image and all copies in one of the other place listed in the first subparagraph above are deleted and this specific photo is present ONLY in the recycling bin.

How can I do what I want to do here?  I hope that's clear enough!

    Thanks a lot (someone)...

    Hi EKahn,

When you delete a file from the library, you do not your computer delete it. If you delete a folder, photo library no longer displays images and videos that were in that folder, although the file remains on your computer.

You can remove the folders that you have added to the Gallery of photos at any time, but you cannot remove files that are in the default Photo Gallery. Remove a folder prevents him from appearing in the photo gallery. If you delete a photo, it is deleted from your computer as if you deleted the images folder.

Select the pictures and videos are displayed in Windows Photo Gallery

  • How to remove the history of tag list box in Windows Photo Gallery

Photo Gallery maintains a list of every tag I used.  I don't have these old tags more and I would like to clear them from the zone drop-down list to the right of the screen, but I can't find an option delete by clicking right or any other way.  How can I do this?

    Hi sailorsteve,

To clear the tag suggestions, follow the steps mentioned below:

Important:- This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

How to back up and restore the registry in Windows:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/322756

    1. close Windows Photo Gallery.

    2. go to start | Run | type regedit and press ENTER. (On Vista you will be prompted by the user account control dialog box if you have not logged as local administrator.)

    3. in the search for the Publisher of the registry at this location: HKEY_CURRENT_USERS\Software\Microsoft\Windows Photo Gallery\Library\PreviewPane\LabelAssignment\MRU

4 in the pane, you should see the list of tags that appear in the auto-suggest list.  You remove the (s) you want.

    5. When you are finished, close the registry editor and open Photo Gallery.

Note: Make this manual workaround solution does not remove the actual Tags of files or the database of the library.  So, even if you delete all the items in this list from this registry location, your actual tags remain intact.  Only, this clears the auto-suggest list.

  • Rename several Photos in Windows Photo Gallery Changes their order... Why and how to avoid this phenomenon

When I click on Edit: select all and file: rename to rename all the pictures in a file, Windows Photo Gallery changes the order of the photos in the file when it renames them. I need all the photos in their original order as many of them are sequential in nature, so how do I rename all the pictures in a file and make them come out in the original order after renaming?

    Thanks for any help...

Once rename you them, it shows them in this order,

Depending on how you have renamed them, you could look in the records of the event, or an association of tag system, because wlpg bed than the names that the order in which he plays or show thumbnails,

The exception would be if you did a slide show you can rearrange the way they play by dragging them around.

Also, I think you should consider tags group and no file file rename.

  • Prefer W. Vista Windows Photo Gallery to w. 7 WindowsLive library

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit of a desktop computer. I largely prefer the version of the Windows Vista Photo Gallery to Windows Live Photo Gallery included with Windows 7. Why was something of broken not fixed in a poor and limited way? I am willing to remove Windows Live Photo Gallery and replace it with the version of Vista. Having both available would be acceptable. Or the other option is possible? Is there another program (third, perhaps) that provides the features and usability of the Windows Vista Photo Gallery?

    Hello

Windows Photo Gallery is not included in Windows 7. You can view and print photos with Windows Photo Viewer. To edit them, you need to install a program from another company or Windows Live Photo Gallery.

    Hi kstormu812,

    Welcome to Microsoft answers forums!

I would like to know the following information to help focus in the right direction.

    a. don't you make changes to the computer before this problem?

    b. don't you make changes to the windows photo gallery settings?

    c. What is the exact error message and error code?

    d. you are able to see other images saved on the computer with no problems?

    e. What is the file format of the photos or videos?

If you have a third party photo editing software, try removing it and see if that will help.

Note: Please try this step only if you can recover the program.

Gallery Photo will show images with any of these file types:

    ·         BMP, JPEG, JFIF, TIFF, PNG, WDP

If Windows Movie Maker is installed, photo library will also play videos in these types of files:

    ·         ASF, AVI, MPEG, WMV.

If you view files, that are other than the files listed above, you will need to convert them to the format mentioned above.
