  You can use 30 GB; 40 GB; 60 GB and 80 GB of HARD drive. Perhaps also a 100 GB, but I'm not 100% sure about this HARD drive.

  AFAIK Portege 3500 was equipped with the 40 GB IDE HDD.
  This is why you must use an IDE hard drives (not SATA).

  Now, it would be important to know what max HD size could be compatible;
  If the laptop supports 40 GB I think a 60 GB HARD drive might work too.
