  I need to turn my Tecra A2 to 1680 x 1050 at 60 Hz for my new external VW222U LCD monitor which is connected to my port replicator.

  I know the card (which is 82852/82855) can run at this resolution, when you use the Intel Embedded drivers it works, one must give up all the nice little things when you use the standard drivers, as monitor circuit etc...

  I debated on many forums on the Intel site, why this resolution is not available by default, it seems that it is not enabled in BIOS video resolution which read default display drivers, then the seller must add, the reason why the built-in drivers work, is that they do not read it directly from the video BIOS...

  I know this question, but we have to live with it because it seems to graphics cards providers give some really 'default' drivers for the laptop manufacturers.

  I have a Satellite Pro S200 and I also use Intel drivers for the Intel homepage. But my monitorswitching, etc... works like a charm, so maybe if you install the tools such as the "FN + F5" etc... It would probably work.

  I would like to give it a try, otherwise: it's as if it was... :/

  I have use for a Toshiba Tecra A3 Notebook with build in Intel GMA900 video card. Connected to the Dell 2407WFP (with the current drivers installed video card and monitor) I could only choose 1600 * 1200 settings. The screen on the screen with the right max resolution of 1920 * 1200 - intel but I could only choose 4:3 rations in display properties.

  The laptop should be able to run the resolution of 1920 * 1200 with no problems, but I can't choose this settings.

  An idea or a tool that could help me...

  I don t know why, but some drivers graphics don t allow to use all the screen resolutions.
  Unfortunately, it doesn't have much to do. If the resolution 1900 x 1200 is not in the list of available resolutions, so you will not be able to use it.

  Maybe another graphic driver would allow you to use this special resolution but I m not 100% sure about this.
  In addition, you should always use drivers Toshiba graphics and if you want to install other graphics drivers IE. Omega drivers so you can do so at you own risk!

I just tried to inseting a 2 GB card in and it has frozen and made the fan to become crazy. When I had managed to calm the computer down, I tried a 256 MB (also a different brand) twice and it froze both times.

  I checked the manual of your laptop (it can be downloaded from the Toshiba site) and it seems that the resolution 1920 x 1080 is not taken in charge.
  Here is the list of manual of the supported screen resolutions:
  640 x 480
  800 x 600
  1024 x 768
  1280 x 1024
  1600 x 1200
  1920 x 1440
  2048 x 1536

  I think that should answer your question ;)
