"testing" a new character set

11.2

We have two environments. CHOOSE the value OF V$ NLS_Parameters WHERE parameter = "NLS_CHARACTERSET"; Returns WE8ISO8859P1 AL32UTF8 and one in the other. Asked me to 'test' the support for multibyte characters and see what we need to do.

I don't know how to approach the issue. So I went to the basics of loading of SQL * Plus and execute: SELECT 'Ä' FROM Dual;

In WE8ISO8859P1 result:

'

-

?

In AL32UTF8:

'?'

---

?

The only difference seems to be the display of single quotes in the header.

What should I configure SQL * more? Is there a 'simple test' to show the difference between the two environments?

Your task is not well defined. You cannot 'test data' unless you want to repeat that all the thousands of tests run by Oracle to test its product :-)  You can test some features in the database, but more often, you want to test a business with the database application.

Certainly, an AL32UTF8 database can store data in any language supported by Unicode. You don't have to test this possibility. Thousands of databases with this character set and store data from around the world. However, AL32UTF8 is a multibyte character set. In other words, you need to store a lot of characters may have different codes of those in a database of the WE8ISO8859P1 and these codes can have more than one byte. Depending on how the columns of the table are defined, lengths of scope are defined, the application is configured, etc, you may or may not notice problems. As you can see, you need test a particular application to useful tests.

If you want to just test the entry of accented Latin characters of languages of Western Europe on an American or a Western European version of Windows, then:

-Open Command Prompt

-Run:

C:\ > chcp

Should display:

Active code page: 437 (or 850)

If you see 437, enter:

C:\ > set NLS_LANG =. US8PC437

If you see 850, enter:

C:\ > set NLS_LANG =. WE8PC850

Then, run SQL * more (in the same window from command line!):

C:\ > sqlplus...

You should be able to enter Western European characters in the WE8ISO8859P1 database and the AL32UTF8 database with this configuration. Note, WE8ISO8859P1 can't stand not all characters available under Windows. For example, it does not support the Euro character.

However, I recommend Oracle SQL Developer to test the characters entry in a database. It requires no any configuration for most popular languages. Configuration of fonts in the JDK can prevail for lesser-used languages.

Thank you

Please provide the details, how you tried to change the character set database and what character set.

As indicated in MetaLink Note 260192.1 ("Changing WE8ISO8859P1 / WE8ISO8859P15 or WE8MSWIN1252 (AL32) UTF8'"), AL32UTF8 is not a binary superset of these character sets and therefore conversion includes import/export steps in case you have non-US7ASCII character data in your database.

The MetaLink note explains how to make the change in detail, but I do not know if it is supported for 10g XE.

If you can afford it, the easiest way is probably to create/install a new database 10g XE by using the Unicode character database, I think that option when installing 10 g XE.

  • change the character set

    Hi all

    We use:

Oracle Application on the Enterprise Linux 4 update 5 AS version 11.5.10.1.
Version of database is 10.2.0.3 with character EE8MSWIN1250.

We have the plan to migrate from this set of characters Unicode (AL32UTF8).
Is there something specific in this, or we can just use the standard migration of oracle to the unicode character database.

Do we need to do something on the application tier of the Oracle Applications, or we can simply migrate database to Unicode characters,
and the app will be good work after the next startup db and app level.

It seems that Data Dictionary has some convertible entries. you need to fix this all the objects individually as suggested in metalink Note 258904.1

Application object has a truncation and entered convertible. For truncation entries, you must increase the size of the column of the completed columns as shown in the .err log file. For convertible entries, you must perform the export/import. Note 1283764.1

  • Error ORA-12712 when changing the character set AL32UTF8 to nls

    Hello

It is strongly advised to use the AL32UTF8 database character set when ever a database is used with our XML capabilities. The database character set in the installed base is WE8MSWIN1252. To use XML DB functionality, I need to change it to AL32UTF8. But, when I try to do that, I get ORA-12712: new character set must be a superset of the old character set. Is there a way to fix this?

    Thanks in advance,
    Divya.

    Hello

a change of we8mswin1252 to al32utf8 is not directly possible. This is because al32utf is not a binary superset of we8mswin1252.

    There are 2 options:
    -use any export and import
-Use of the altar in a kind of limited

Depends on the method, you can choose the characters in the database, is that only ASCII then the other can work, in other cases, one is necessary.

    It is all described in Note 260192.1support, "replacing the NLS_CHARACTERSET AL32UTF8 / UTF8 (Unicode). Get on-site support/metalink.

You can also read the chapters about it in the Guide of globalization: [url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10729/ch11charsetmig.htm#g1011430] change characterset.

  • build the new database through scripts must understand Spanish character sets.

    Hello gurus,
I need to some simple tips, a good chance for some quick points for you.
I've never built a database to understand any different other than the U.S. English character set. I now have to build a database that will be used for characters Spanish-keyboards, etc. But I will use English to install 11g software. I just want to be able to show the Spanish characters in the data for the names of clients.
I will create the database with scripts that I did to make the standard model for data files, control files, etc..
Then I import in a dump that I did and that was done with American English character sets.
The system is 11g (11.2.0.3.0) on Linux Enterprise Server 5.8.
I thought I'd use the AL32UTF8 character set, but I'm not sure where to use them.
My original test showed no Spanish characters for names of customers as the "tilda" or "sueano" (excuse my spelling). But in this case I did the exceptional for Spanish, I used only the construction of standard American English (no change in the file init.ora or original database create script).

How can I adjust my settings file for the initial creation of the database model to be able to understand the Spanish character set and still be able to import my dump error-free file.

    EXAMPLE of a build script:

    CREATE DATABASE mynewdb
The USER SYS IDENTIFIED BY sys_password
The USER IDENTIFIED BY system_password SYSTEM
    LOGFILE GROUP 1 ('/ u01/app/oracle/oradata/mynewdb/redo01.log') SIZE in the 100M.
    GROUP 2 ('/ u01/app/oracle/oradata/mynewdb/redo02.log') SIZE in the 100M.
    GROUP 3 ('/ u01/app/oracle/oradata/mynewdb/redo03.log') SIZE 100 M
    MAXLOGFILES 5
    MAXLOGMEMBERS 5
    MAXLOGHISTORY 1
    MAXDATAFILES 100
    CHARACTER SET US7ASCII
    NATIONAL CHARACTER SET AL16UTF16

If I replace to AL32UTF8 AL16UTF16 NATIONAL CHARACTER SET, will it work to show the Spanish characters?

Sorry for the long-winded question, any advice will be great.

    Fortunately,
    Shawn

    Hello
the national character sets is for the column as nvarchar types not for normal varchar data types. So if your dump file contains column types, you also need to set. The character set is for normal column as a varchar types. The use of unicode is best practice if you use the multiel language, but keep in mind that multibyte character set can be a problem when importing because varchar2 (10) means byte 10 and not 10 characters, so mistakes as an identifier for a long time may occur when importing.
    You can create the database.

    See this documentation:
    http://docs.Oracle.com/CD/B28359_01/server.111/b28298/ch2charset.htm

You can use a like WE8MSWIN1252 character set which covers the Spanish also (like many, I know) and a superset of us7ascii

  • JAX - WS how to read a different character set

How can I define a JAX - WS webservice to accept content with charset = "iso-8859-1" on a system that uses "utf-8"?

If it was just a servlet, I would have done something like this:
protected void doPost(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response)

         String content = "";
BufferedReader reader = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(

              }
         } finally {
              reader.close();
         }
    }
But how can I achieve the same thing using a web service?

    MortenN wrote:

We have isolated the cause, we must find a way to fix it.

This Web service is running to a 7.1.1 jboss using cxf 2.4.6

    1. is it possible to set a different default iso-8859-1 value if no charset is defined?

    2. is it possible to intercept the query in a Manager or a filter and change the http headers by adding the charset for the content-type before it is handled?

    3. is there a another way to force the system to use utf - 8 instead of iso-8859-1 by changing the xml, queries, etc.?

You need to replace the HTTP request header. Take a look on:

    http://CXF.Apache.org/docs/JAX-RS-filters.html#JAX-RSFilters-OverridingrequestURI%2Cqueryandheaders

I suggest you do the substitution ONLY if:

    1. when the HTTP Content Type is not a character set is defined, and perhaps only for the Type of content you are interested... text/xml or application/soap + xml

    2. when the body lacks a XML declaration. Be aware that XML can be a byte-order-mark (BOM) in front of the XML declaration.

Of course, if you can convince the client to send the right kind of content AND the XML declaration, you don't have to do the foregoing.

    On a unrelated note:

I just noticed that the SOAP payload is in fact a request for MM7. I used to work in the industry mobile, actually implemented of the MM7 3GPP specification and need to test with different carriers in the world. Operators or other software vendors who have implemented the specification took informative sections as normative spec... but informative sections had bugs in them that I had to report to get corrected in the spec as vendors and operators were focused on the informative sections and not the normative part... I'm not surprised that you have this same scenario I had 6 years ago.

It seems that you have an XMLType column based on a pattern of failure revalidation.

It's strange, but fortunately, the error has nothing to do with the database character set.

Just change your NLS session parameters:

    ALTER session set nls_numeric_characters = ".";

    and try again.

NO idea how to solve this problem?  I broadcast the gziped file and a new... to be sure of the xfer wasn't the question...

I'm stumped... I searched the Forum and the web and tried most of what I found.

    Spot the problem?

The original dump was expdp, we seek to import with IMP...

If it is conversely impdp flags it is an exp file - but this round way you get just this random error!

    See you soon,.

  • Character set US7ASCII AL32UTF8 migration to Oracle Applications database

What is the best method to get the character set migration of Oracle Applications database?

    The options available are

    (1) export and import

    (2) CSALTER

    (3) DMU

    Database - 11g

    Applications - R12

Please suggest some tips and recommendations.

    Nordine salvation,

I suggest you to refer the link: "How do I convert the character set for Oracle R12.1.1 running on 11.0.6 database Oracle US7ASCII' as it is very relevant to you."

Response to your previous post would be:

    S ' stick to a plan

-Try all of the activity on the TEST server for yourself

-Troubleshoot and debug all the question from A - Z

-On the successful implementation, make a backup of the Production and move the solution to PROD.

If possible, run a lot of questions while doing the character set migration oracle applications, database because it contains the application tables.

I accept the fact that EBS database is complicated to a database independent, but still all the features and debugging tools and troubleshooting is the same, although it is autonomous or EBS database.

We should do if we stuck to the top in with and truncate in the application according to the CSSCAN results tables,.

little tables when we checked in Metalink he says to avoid these tables which do not affect the database or application.

Try in a Test Server, the above link helps you on the issue. You can find answer to some tables with loss in metalink if it's a bug, just lift a SRt solve your problem.

What we must do if we are in important application tables, export and import will help in this issue.

No, if we have available data with loss, then we cannot use the Import/Export and we will have to use CSALTER instead.

is this the right method or must contact oracle support for assistance on important application tables.

YES, I personally recommend you try and paralleling have ongoing Oracle support. So that you will have a guide from A to Z, in the case you're wrong

    Hope this helps

    Best regards

    Hi Experts

I am a (32 bit) 9i upgrade to 11g (64-bit) and I tried to understand the character of the next Oracle doc sets section. http://docs.Oracle.com/CD/E11882_01/server.112/e10897/install.htm#BABCABAC

I did a SELECT * FROM NLS_DATABASE_PARAMETERS; Here's the result... I hope to keep my current character sets in the new 11 GR 2, this will be possible? I'm risking error asking if I change my character sets, especially 32-bit to 64-bit? Thanks for all your contributions.

PL indicate how you plan to upgrade. If you are about to upgrade directly on-site using DBUA scripts or migration, the characters will not change as part of the upgrade. The character set can be changed if you create a new 11.2.0.3 empty database and then perform an upgrade via export/import.

Oracle recommends to use the AL32UTF8 (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e25494/create001.htm#ADMIN13343) characters, but if your application does not expect never to use any characters that do not appear in US7ASCII, you can continue to use this game.

  • What character set?

    Hi all

    I install a new 11g.
The set of characters that is safe to use? or more complete? WE8MSWIN1252 or UTF8?

    Thank you very much.

Choice of database character set depends on the needs of the application: need applications that will use the database to store data in Russian, Japanese, Chinese, etc.? If you are unsure, the safest choice is AL32UTF8 because it is designed to store all major languages.

Read it please choose a character set of Oracle database in http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10729/ch2charset.htm#NLSPG171

  • character set question

    Hello

I've migrated an oracle 11g on oracle 10g database. The 11g database has EE8MSWIN1250 character set, the g 10 a WE8MSWIN1252 character set. The Polish letters appear with '? ' character. Is it possible to change the character of 10g of th on EE8MSWIN1250 without re-creating the database?

    Radoslaw

Can you change the character set of target database or create new database with correct character set? If you can't, there is not much you can do like 1250 and 1252 are indeed incompatible in some code points (1252 lack some of that is present in 1250 and vice versa). The best thing you could do here is to create a new database with AL32UTF8 as default character - this database accepts virtually all the input data.

You have not defined or clarification of the environment variable NLS_LANG before trying to run the command export.
