  I still have a problem with the 12 c CARS.  After fixing a problem wih oracle support (spfile in ASM, can not read, 'old problem'), I now have the spfile outdoors. I fixed it on the first node, but not solve this problem on the second node. I have inexplicable the second node. What is going on?  The second node has not found the spfile, and I do not have a spfile off ASM, only that one on the first node. I created a file pfile from spfile from the first node, copy it on the second node, but now I got:

  I get the following:
  RPRC-1013: failed to start of ora.orcl.db resources
  RPRC-1064: could not start ora.orcl.db of resources on the node fredwin2

  What is the cause and how to fix this?

  root.sh fails on the second node

  Note MOS:

  Grid 11 GR 2: root.sh fails to start the Clusterware on the second node due to the firewall on the private network [981357.1 ID]

  Infrastructure 11.2.0.2 grid or upgrade installation may fail because of the requirement of multicast [1212703.1 ID] (most probabily this problem)

  If using virtual computer for your RAC configuration, it could be that you do not get the necessary performance, that you share the host with several other VMS resource.

  In the case where you are on Solaris, a virtual machine is called "Container" and there you can be more restrictive and guarantee dedicated resources to each "Container".

  The license number

  If you are using Solaris Container or Oracle Linux VM, it is possible to limit these virtual machines to a defined number of CPUS / Cores per VM.

  Thus, if running CARS in these 'VM' it is possible to license CARS only for those virtual machines instead of all license server.

Like should I upgrade before you retrieve it with level 1 backup or I can update and then recover with the level 1 backup from the old server to the new server.

  10. run catupgrd.sql

  You should also take care on the locations of the data file, dump, instance settings destinations, all link database from the database, connectivity application etc.

  In my lab validation, I run four-node RAC on my laptop, using VBox, so yes that's doable with some limitations, like not having the same h/w CARS would have in a real production environment and a few other similar constraints.

  You can download VBox, Oracle's Linux and Oracle RAC s/w and once the virtual machines are configured and operating system is installed, you can consider real separate knots and proceed with the RAC installation as if the installation is performed in the environment no VM.

  Please make sure that each virtual machine has at least two fill adapters / n/w configured and all nodes have shared disks attached to them for the cluster and RAC database.

  Feasible? ... certainly. Significant... not!

  There are a number of reasons, one might wish to implement RAC... horizontal scaling and high availability come to mind. Both are impossible with a single machine.

  You want to do this for purposes of personal training? ... Waste of time that you can really learn how to build and manage a real cluster. Much better to go to eBay, pick up an 800 series or more recent NetApp opportunity and create the real thing.

  It is a problem in 10g. You must manually call the VIPCA utility and have the address set by you.

  It is very common that people just click OK without going through the operating system and run the VIPCA config. Deputy, so at the point where the YES program ends VIP addresses still aren't reported, causing this problem appears.
