Sorry for the confusion.  I must be useless to English.

Forget the two laptops.
I have a problem with a laptop that I tell you all (the Inspiron 1720).
The disc that I use is labeled as a Windows Vista reinstall disk and provided with the computer when I bought it.  I'm not trying to use it on another computer.

Reference Dell it is a problem with a process of recovery of Windows and, therefore, a problem of Microsoft.

Problems with the Dell restore process, contact Dell.
Dell wrote their recovery process and provided you with this DVD, NOT Microsoft...

It is their software.

Ask them for a different recovery DVDs.

You say that the hard drive has failed.

He could have more than just tough that failed.
You can have other hardware issues.

Hardware issues are beyond the scope of these Forums.

Good luck with Dell.

You can use a magnifying glass and a flashlight to see if you can read the numbers of the product key on the label.

Or take a picture of it and expand it on the screen.

I have reset my laptop and I don't have the set up cd, I have the license key for vista ultimate can I download

    Hello

    "I reset my laptop."

What do you mean by that?

There are several methods to reinstall Vista.

There is no Windows Vista downloads available from Microsoft.

You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

They should do this for a small fee.

To reinstall Vista using their recovery disk/s, you start from the 1st recovery disk they provide and follow the manufacturer's instructions to reinstall:

You need to change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order:

How to change the Boot order in BIOS:

If you can't find any reference to it, contact the manufacturer for advice on how to make these recovery disks.

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

How can I reinstall vista on my laptop without a disc. I have an acer aspire 4520 and INF files are missing, umbrella I don't have a disk to reinstall. without these files, I can't update any driver...

    Hello

You can reinstall vista without a drive on an Acer if you never received a disc when you bought

try to press Alt + F10 at the Acer splash screen after power on to start the relocation process

    Here are the different ways to reinstall vista;

Contact the manufacturer of the laptop computer and ask them to send you to vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it

they do it for a nominal cost of $

also ask them if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive to get back to the way you bought

you would normally press F8, F9, F10 or F11 or Alt + F10 or 0 to start to start the recovery process according to the manufacturer

Ask them of the exact key sequence

or borrow a vista microsoft dvd; not a HP, Acer recovery disk etc

Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer

they contain all versions of vista

If the old hard drive is still installed and running before you change on hard drives and you never received the to purchase recovery discs, you can make the recovery discs from the recovery Partition which should be on the old hard drive. You will need to request that the manufacturer how to do as each computer manufacturer has their own way of making records of this partition recovery.
