The best way to migrate data... Opinion please...

Guys,

I'm working on a solution for a customer who needs to move in a new SAN SAN data.

Existing SAN is attached to the ESX server farm and is very close to the location of a new SAN. In your opinion, what is the best way to move data without interruption to VM ESX farm?

I know we can do SAN replication, but right now, I don't know if the SAN is still the same provider.

I know we can do Storage VMotion. In this case, he should present the new SAN somehow for the existing ESX servers.

I know that we can probably use the converter to migrate virtual machines. This can take some time because we would go over WAN.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks in advance for your comments!

With 4 TB of data, I wouldn't pass on the replication SAN or WAN solution of optimization of the property, and it can fly quickly with 4 TB of data that you use storage vmotion which basically depends on how your WAN links are, if if its quick to go for it.  There is not another free solution then this but if you can manage somehow to make backup of system state of all virtual machines, and then you can ship these backup data to remote locations and import, save back to clusters.  You have to do the actual calculation how fast you can Transfer data from the siteA-> siteB Mbps?  This will give you a clearer picture of how long it will take and picture plan here.  I could do that during maintenance or weekend windows that are the least impact to users and systems.

If you found this information useful, please consider awarding points to 'Correct' or 'useful '. Thank you!!!

Kind regards

This is a very common and classic situation:

    http://helpx.Adobe.com/Photoshop-elements/KB/backup-restore-move-catalog-Photoshop.html

Just make sure that your backup on the external drive is ok: you should find a "backup.tly" file in the folder.

Use the organizer of PSE11 to restore the backup of the PSE7: the first step restores all your multimedia files, the second automatically performs a conversion of catalogue in format PSE11.

Read the note in the link above on the restoration of XP to the ulterior Win operating system. You can also restore to a location 'custom '. For example in a "C:\My new library" folder. Make sure the main folder is accessible to all users, and if you wish, you can move the catalog (database), itself from this location to the default location: Catalog Manager, ability to move catalogs in location that is accessible to all users.

  • What is the best way to migrate from forms to ADF?

We are in a big mess. Our company has been developing Oracle Forms for more than 15 years. We have applications developed in Forms 6i and 10 g. We have about 5 products and these 5 products have different versions of 25 to 30. that is, we maintain about 30 different versions of our applications. Each version of the application has about 100 forms and 100 States.

Now, given that the forms came at the end of life of 11 g we want to pass to the ADF. We tried forms of ADF migration tools but failed. So now, we decided to manually to rewrite applications in the ADF.

Our forms / PL/SQL developers, designers and analysts (about 40 in total) are all people of Oracle Forms. They have no experience in Java.

What I want to know is:
    (1) what is the BEST way to do this?
    (2) need to learn Java, JSF, and ADF? (i.e. every 3)?
    (3) it is mandatory to learn JSF?
    (4) assuming that may benefit from a full training, how much time will it take for people of forms learn the ADF?
    (5) what kind of training will be necessary? (Java, JSF, ADF and JDeveloper etc..)
    (6) how LONG will take? that is to train all 40, then to rewrite an application forms 100 + 100 + reports? (Ballpark is OK).
    (7) any other technology we should learn?

    Published by: user12240205 on July 18, 2012 05:48

Obvoiusly liked you training the better, but I think the minimum would

    (1) Java skills - I think to start, 1 or two days read some thing like head first Java http://www.amazon.com/Head-First-Java-Kathy-Sierra/dp/0596009208
    (2) I would then get the http://www.amazon.com/Quick-Start-Oracle-Fusion-Development/dp/0071744282/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1343201618&sr=1-1&keywords=jdeveloper+quick of "The Quick Start Guide to Fusion Development" (declaration: I am the author so have an interest, but I still think it's a good point of departure - this should be about 2-3 days to read and also to try things.)
    (3) in parallel I would observe these http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/adf/learnmore/adfinsider-093342.html#a1 ADF Insider Basics - a few hours
    (4) I'd so try this tutorial http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/tutorials/obe/jdev/obe11jdev/ps1/ria_application/developriaapplication_long.htm - 3 hours.
    (5) if necessary, if you come from a background of forms I would also read http://download.oracle.com/otn_hosted_doc/jdeveloper/11gdemos/SummitADF/SummitADF_Redevelopment.pdf and watch http://download.oracle.com/otn_hosted_doc/jdeveloper/11gdemos/Forms_Redevelopment_ADF/Forms_Redevelopment_ADF.html - which is about 2 hours of work.

I think it would be the absolute MINIMUM at least be able to build basic applications and begin to feel your way all also described in the http://download.oracle.com/otn_hosted_doc/jdeveloper/11gdemos/ADFTour/ADFTour.html 'ADF COLLATERAL TOUR' could be shot as you start to build a proof of concept. However, I would say don't you try to build a real application with a single exposure of weeks (in the same way, I don't expect you to design a database of product with the formation of a week only). I would probably expect your developers to have at least the above training, then spend a month or so evidence of (minimum) building of the concepts (or test themselves with the ADF Insider Essentials tasks). In addition, I would probably expect to have at least a senior developer/architect, with much more experience that may be decisions on things like reuse, partitioning, architecture, etc..

Of course, it's all subjective, but I hope it helps.

  • Best practices for migrating data tables - please comment.

I have 5 new tables stocked with data that must be promoted an evolution to a production environment.
Instead of just DBA using a data migration tool, they are insistent that I have record and provide scripts for each commit, in good condition, necessary both to build the table and insert the data from ground zero.

I'm very little used to such an environment, and it looks much more risky for me to try to reconstruct the objects from scratch, so I already have a model perfect, tested and ready.

They require a lot of literature, where each step is recorded in a document and use for deployment.
I think their purpose is that they do not want to rely on backups but would rather than rely on a document that specifies each step to recreate.

Please comment on your view of this practice. Thank you!

I'm not a DBA. I can't even hold a candle to the fans of the forum as Srini/Justin/sb.
Now that I'm giving a slightly different opinion.

It is great to have, and I paraphrase of various positions
    Deployment documents,
    sign off of groups
    recovery steps
    Source code control
    repositories
"The production environment is sacred. All the risks that must be reduced to a minimum at any price. In my opinion a DBA should NEVER move anything from a development environment directly in a production environment. 'NEVER.'
    etc etc.

But we cannot generalize that each production system must have these. Each customer is different; everyone has different levels of fault tolerance.

You can't wait for a change of design of the product to a cabinetmaker to go through "as rigorous than at NASA. Why would it be different for software change?

How rigorous you put is a bit subjective - it depends on the policies of the company, experiences in society with the disasters of migration (if any) and the corporate culture.

OP can come from a customer with lax controls. And it can be questioned if the rigour at the level of the new customer is worth it.

To a single client, (and I don't kid), the prod password is apps/apps. (after 12 years of being alive!) I was appalled at first. But it's a very small business. They got saddled with EBS during the .com boom Hay days. They use just 2 modules in EBS. If I speak of creation (and charge) these documents/processes, I would lose the customer.
My point is that not all places must or want these controls. By trial and error, you get what is the best company.

    OP:
You said that you're not used to this type of environment. I recommend that you go with the current first. Spend time on understanding the value/use/history of these processes. Ask if they still seem too much to you. Keep in mind: this is subjective. And if it comes down to your existing reviews of the v/s, you need either an authority OR some means of persuasion (money / sox (intentional typo here) / beheaded horse heads... everything that works!)

  • Best way to migrate data from a store of data to a ROW

    Hi all

I have a maybe simple question.

I have some SQL clusters to customers that are not configured by the best practices of VMware.

They are running ESX 4.0 with vCenter 5.0 u2 u2

Some of them are running two nodes on the same ESX, some of them have mixtures of RDM and data warehouses and LUNS are connected by mixtures of policies of multiple paths.

I can make changes to the MPP and the separation of the knots without problem, but I was wondering if anyone has recommendations for the data transfer of any store of data that exists in a ROW?

Obviously if it is possible I would disconnect the data store, add as a RDM again but is it ok to do?

    Are there catches hidden here?

If this possible isn´t would I need to create a new drive as a vMotion RDM and the storage of the data between the 2?

I Don t need to migrate data for the operating system, the data on disks, so I can use storage vMotion for this or it would be better to run VMware converter?

Someone at - it advice or recommendations?

    Thanks in advance

You can't add the data store to a server asa RDM because the data store is in VMFS format.

you could use vmware converter or restore backups to place the data on the rdm.

  • Identify the best way to transfer data between applications in Essbase

    Hello Experts,

One of my clients uses Hyperion System 9.3.1 and they try to understand if the partitioning might be a way to automate the transfer of data between applications Essbase (using the partitioning of replication).

The challenge, they say, is that they may need to send the budget a source application (SLVQ) data to an application (consolidated) target. Data can be changed in Conso and returned to the SLVQ for review.

They get warnings when they define partitions in both directions because the partitions are overlapping, but it works.

Are there concepts or reasons why they should not use this function (transfer in both directions)? Is this something that is used by other companies?

Their alternative is to export data in text file, then reload with rule files. It seems more difficult to define (MaxL scripts-> text files-> rules of files) with more chances of getting errors. Is there some other effective solutions which we do not understand?

    Please suggest.

    Thanks in advance

    Kind regards
    Jingle

    Hi Lisa,
other than the scores, text file
There are two more, according to my knowledge

    1 XREF
2 HAL (Hyperion Application Link) using adapters essbase

We use the XREF and HAL to our company to transfer data between applications according to the needs.
    I hope this helps.

  • What is the best way to read data series high speed?

My goal is to read 14 bytes of binary data of an instrument on the serial RS232 (460800 baud) to 2000 Hz. I didn't get a card series high speed again so I am currently using the standard serial port (115200 baud) and reading at 400 Hz I have configure the port series, empty the buffer, and then enter a while loop to read incoming data. I have a visa 14 bytes read by interation seconds 0.0025 (400 Hz). However it seems that the sensor is spewing data faster that labview can read because the bytes are accumilating in the port. After some time the buffer fills and the program fails.

Is there a better way to do it?

Would it not be better to read the larger quantities of data less often, for example as 1400 bytes every 0.25 seconds?

    Thank you

    Hello

I think it would be good to read several points in a loop, and keep the loop less than 1000 Hz.  I found in the past, have something to run faster than about 10ms tends to fall down when windows loses interest in the process.  So yes, choose the slower you can get away with reading samples - for example to read every 10ms and read 20 samples every time. You should be able to configure your serial port in order to buffer the samples that I guess.

Also and the issue of windows - if you use a loop "timed" instead of a while loop, so you can force it to an integer value including the ms.  You can also assign a dedicated processor and set the priority to 100, which means that it is less likely to elapse and decide to scan your hard drive for viruses or consult your account e-mail or what he does when he's bored with your program.  Also it "' tells you if the loop has taken longer that planned to run - you can use this to help iron out bugs etc. - report and/or to the user if you missed a few samples.

  • Best ways of Migration in the 9.3

    Hi I'm on Hyperion 9.3,

Please can anyone suggest the best way to migrate my application of PLANNING from one environment to another. (If possible so other docs)

    Thanks in advance

Well the native SID of a user a user changes between environments unless you have used the CSSImportExport utility during the creation of the user to force the same native SID.

What you need to do is create an empty application on your target environment or go to the one that was created with the same owner of the application.
Search in the table HSP_USERS and store SID for the UserID 50001, 50001 if no changes have been made to the application since the application owner.
Now go to the HSP_USERS in the application, you have just migrated and replace the SID that you have stored, and then restart planning.

You should always check the logging as I suggested, because it may be a different problem.
