These messages are part of a conversation; Why would you delete them en masse? Trash, OTOH, contains things that you have already decided that you don't want.

  In any case, point to a message in the "sent" folder (or any folder you want), do ctrl + a on the keyboard, then remove it button will zap all of the selected files.
