  If you are using XP Home Edition, the built-in Administrator account probably doesn't have a defined password. You can start in safe mode, where this account will be selectable when connecting. It allows to connect and change the password of your normal connection.

  To start in safe mode, keep hitting F8 twice a second after turning on the PC until you get the start menu where safe mode is selectable by the up/down arrow keys, and then press ENTER.

  If you are using XP Professional, try to connect using the built-in Administrator account. You don't need to do it in safe mode (although you can if you wish). If your normal login screen is a display of the user symbol and hit ctrl-alt-del twice to get to login to text entry. Type administrator as the user name and try a blank password.

  There are a few things to think about here:

  • NTFS can support 256 terabytes
  • MBR disks can support 2 Terabyte drives
  • Dynamic disks are not limited to the MBR 2 Terabyte limit
  If my understanding is that if your drive is formatted in NTFS and you have a dynamic disk, Windows 2000 can support up to 256 terabytes. For more information about dynamic disks, seeworking with basic and dynamic disks.

  Or use LVM in the comments and add a flat disc of 2 GB at a time, say. Who is merged into a pool of space of storage where the guest linux stores its logical volumes, or something like that.

  Of course, it is easier to treat if not use LVM, then it is straightforward.  Although I would never extend a drive without first having a good backup of it!

  You can help...

  If you do not have enough disk space on the host computer, this should be no problem. Shut down the virtual computer, open the settings of a virtual machine, click the utilities button in the properties of the virtual hard disk. You will find the possibility to expand the virtual disk.

  Assuming that the current virtual disk is sparse (more on request) provided - which is the value by default - you must temporarily on the amount of free disk space as long as the current size of the vmdk.

  After having developed the virtual disk, you can use "diskpart" to expand the disk in the guest OS (assuming that it's the last partition).

• NFS share for one (1) added when adding to a new host in the existing data center

  I'm sure it's a simple answer, but I've been beating my head on the wall, trying to find a solution. The scenario is as follows:

  1 Vcenter has several hosts in different groups. All built at the same time with a NFS share that is shared among all.

  2. I add a new host to the data center (I tried independently and also added to a cluster as well).

  3. the new host sees its local disk as a data store, as expected, but I have to add the shared NFS datastore.

  4. at the level of the host, I go to configuration-storage-add storage and the NFS share.

  It shows and normal with NFS (1) as the name. I can't rename it as it says THAT NFS already exist. I understand that there are in the vcenter DB, but how to add this new host or host an existing environment and maintain the name of the NFS share? vCenter 5.5, 5.5 esxi

  finally found the problem,

  the mounting data store I used FQDN.domain.com /Datashare

  I needed to use the FULL domain. DOMAIN.COM /Datashare

  Plugs in the name of area COMPLETE the variance in the symbolic name that caused the problem.

• HELP PLEASE! I lost about 400 GB of MP4 (film and audio book) using Chkdsk files. He repaired broken sectors/files regardless, but it changed the extentions. How can I find new extensions? they are there, but I don't know how to find them.

  I have Vista Home Premium. I have a huge media collection for my ipod. I save all my video files and files on an external hard drive (my book 500 GB) audiobook while they clutter up my internal drive and so I can store them where my internal drive has failed somehow... Well I got the opposite happens. I started to get my video files would not open in their records. I ran Chkdsk utility to "fix" the files. When the program has finished running he had a Msg: something has changed the names of files and everything I was supposed to go to the files and the rear switch (as far as I can remember... I don't wear SPECIAL attention for the MSG that I thought it was normal and the program would take me to the files when it was done... ERROR. All desktop shortcuts no longer find files directly by going to my computer, then by looking at the HD I cannot find the files.  I used the program REcuva file hippo and it restores the few files that have been deleted out of the dirve and allowed to see some of the video files and audio books (but no tag info remained on the recovered files. I had to so I would like to know what they rename them). Other than these few files... less than 20 I t help either. Records that they are still there, but it asks me to open files with a program from a list of choices and not of the program draw files. (the choice to choose this high program open this type of file is also blacked out). Also when I run the cursor over the records of the size of the files do not match wat I know should be in the files. But if I just look at the my computer screen and run the cursor over the icon of the letter itself it show that there is 435 + GB hard disk info and 50 + GB of space left on it.
  A few questions:
  1. is it possible to see all the possible msg that the command chkdsk can generate so I can find that he gave me when he fixed my files?
  2 - How can I find these files if I don't know the extensions I'm looking for? they were for quicktime mp4 files, but I don't know now.
  3 - If the drive to my drive internal and try to list the backup files is located on the drive where I'd start trying to open the files?

  Go to start / Control Panel / folder Options / View and uncheck Hide extensions for known file types.  You should also check the box to see the system and hidden files while you're there.  This should show you the extensions of all files if that is the problem.  You can then rename the files for extensions are associated with a program that will open and read the files (you may need to experiment first with some programs to find one that works and an extension that works if they have been changed).  I don't know any way to do this for all files at once - they will have to be renamed individually (yes - I realize counts the number of files involved, but I know of no program in Vista or even a 3rd party program that will change the extensions for a group of files at a time - you can check for yourself on www.tucows.com and www.download.com).

  Desktop Shortcuts no longer work because either the file type of the source file has changed and the shortcut does not open the file, or because the file has been moved and the shortcut can not find the path.  You should be able to check the path by finding files (whatever they are now called) and see if they are in the same directories in path as they were before this happened.  I think it's because the source file works more correctly because of the extension (or corruption).

  Recuva to recover lost or deleted files - not the files that are on the system (and you won't not solve your problem by deleting them and then use Recuva to recover because it sounds like the problem is with the extensions and Recuva is not going to be able to correct it (it is not part of his program)).

  There's no list of ALL possible messages that might be generated by chkdsk I know.  Here is an article on the chkdsk command works in XP and some messages it generates - but far from everything and nothing look like the one you receive (and it works essentially the same under Vista): http://www.isd518.net/District/TechDir/Help/Chkdsk.htm.

  The backup on your internal hard disk drive will not solve the problem - just move it.  The 'damage' to the files are already done a backup now will not solve anything.  The fact that the drive is set up in format FAT32 is not the question (and probably not the question in the first place is) and change to NTFS now is not going to solve the problem (although you can do that after all this has been resolved).

  I won't tell you to cut your losses - this is a pretty drastic step and there may still be other options (although I don't know myself).  You can take the reader to a recovery expert data (NOT Geek Squad or one of these other major centres to store) which may be able to recover some, most, or all files.  It will be expensive and only you can decide if it's worth the cost.  These people usually the game fee and do not offer a guarantee of recovery - even if they don't recover anything you always pay.  The decision is yours.

  I tried to use the portion of my drive recovery hard when my laptop Pavilion dv7-4173 US could not operate.  After trying the hard drive recovery part several times I got an error message saying that the bootmgr is missing. I tried using the recovery discs I got to the store, I bought the computer before taking it home, and they failed. They worked up to 32% and then stopped.  I took the laptop and recovery (6 discs) disks to the tech Department of another retail store. After several days, I learned the recovery disc where no good/damaged. When I contacted the store bought told me that I had to bring in the laptop and recovery disks. They replaced the hard drive, saying: that was the problem, but do not partition. They decided to classified until the system OS of Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit for Windows 7 Professional 64 bit., but did not try the recovery disks. Can I use the recovery disk, they made me, if are good restore the laptop back to factory new?  I know he will place the operating system Windows 7 Home back on the computer, but I want that all return provided with computer programs. I'll be able to upgrade the Professional operating system? I have the disc of Windows 7 Professional.  If my restore disk will not work, can I use the recovery disc, only 2 discs instead of 6, I can buy from HP and then move on to professional?

• Reconfigure existing disk on MD3220i groups

  Hello

  I currently have a MD3220i with two disk RAID 10 groups. I would like to reconfigure them in a large RAID5. These are used by a Hyper-V Cluster Server 2012 running. What would be the proper way to remove the volumes of the beam, removing the existing disk groups, create the new disk group and adding the new volume as a shared Cluster Volume? I know it's more a question of Microsoft but no direction is much appreciated

  Hello Mike,.

  You will need to do is remove your connection host of virtual disks first.  Once this has been done, then you want to delete the virtual disks. Once the virtual disks have been removed, you can remove the disk group.  Once the disk group has been deleted then you can recreate the new disk group and create the virtual disks and then assign them to the cluster.

  I tried from Googling and it involves a lot of things from the command line and seems to be different ways of doing.

  They say that I need to format the drive again and specify a block size.  But isn't ESXi installed on the same partition? If I reformat it, it won't get rid of the ESXi software?

  If you have no data, go to Configuration / Storage and remove the existing data store.

  Then choose Add datastore.

• How can I rename my folders of bookmarks?

  I use Firefox V 25.0.1 on my Mac with OS X V 10.8.5. I used to be able to rename files, but have been unable to do. I have no "bookmarks manager" or whatever it be identified as a 'library '. I have no tab menu "Manage my folders" or "Properties" tab and I'm unable to highlight the name of the folder to rename. I don't see anything under "filled with star" in the sidebar. Anyway can I rename a folder?

  In Windows to open Favorites in a new window I use Ctrl + Shift + B.

  Try using the CMD + SHIFT + B in the Mac.

  I think the upgrade to windows 7, the official version. However, before I do that, I know that if I can downgrade to windows vista, as soon as I upgrade to Windows 7. I'm not sure that you will be able to go back to windows vista. Currently I have Windows Vista Home Premium. I also have the recovery disk. Can I install windows Vista on a recovery disk?   There is no decommissioning as such; Installing a clean place to go back to Vista.

  You can reinstall Vista recovery disk/s that you made, or with those of the manufacturer of the computer.

• How to add a logic unit with an existing data store number

  I have a logic unit number I replicated from a SAN at a data center in a SAN to another data center. I want to map this LUN to a cluster of ESX 4 and use the store of existing data on the LUN to recover the virtual machines it contains. What is the best way to do it? Guests will see the existing data store, when I rescan HBAS or y at - it a trick to add a data store existing cluster?

  It's a separate LUN on a different SAN mapped to another set of hosts. Once I have a new analysis for the new LUNS and data warehouses, store data on this LUN will display in the list of data stores to then browse data warehouses and register virtual machines on it?  Or still do I add storage and first select the existing data store?

  Given that the hosts did not see the original LUN before, the data store should appear just after the new analysis.
