  You can do this in a script

  then, when you give parameters

It will depend on the settings you choose in the dialog box export for example image size, resolution and jpeg quality unless you export as PSD or by another file format which normally have larger files. In summary, that the file size is not that important as long as the image meets the requirements of your destination ex a picture with a resolution of 72 DPI to average quality compression will be fine for use on sites and blogs while you would need a resolution of 240-300 PPI and of high quality if you were doing an impression.
