The icons on the desktop to change positions

I use windows vista ultimate service pack 2, and icons will not stay in place.  Not all moving them.  I created a new account on my computer and when I walk back the icons of all the displaced.  Today, I had closed the laptop for a long wile and when I opened it back part of the icoms moved.  Is there a way to lock in position on the desktop icon?   I tried to look for help with no luck.  There are no available under notice lock icons option.

    1. what operating system is installed on your computer?

2 have you made changes on the computer before this problem?

    Method 1:

I also suggest that you scan your computer with the Microsoft Security Scanner, which would help us to get rid of viruses, spyware and other malicious software.
The Microsoft Security Scanner is a downloadable security tool for free which allows analysis at the application and helps remove viruses, spyware and other malware. It works with your current antivirus software.

Note: the Microsoft Safety Scanner expires 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.
Note: All data that are infected must be cleaned only by deleting all of the data, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

    Method 2:

You can check the question in the new user account.

  • Why my icons on my desktop keep changing

My favorite site icons keep changing to blue globe just out of the blue.  How can I stop this?

    Thank you for the update.

File Ntuser.dat is normal is displayed on your computer. It's a registry file of the Windows operating system that contains personal files and preferences for each user account. It is not harmful. File Ntuser.dat are invisible, except if you set your settings to show hidden files (which I think we did before). Deleting the file Ntuser.dat will remove also all the account settings and cause the damaged profile.

For more information, kindly check this link.

Regarding your concern to icon, we suggest you to do what we did before that is to clear the cache of the icon. After that, run your computer in a clean boot by disabling startup programs to check if there is any third-party program causing these. Watch it and leave it in the boot for a day to check if she always changes the icons. To run your computer in a clean boot state, please follow the steps in this link.

Let us know how it goes.

  • All icons on the desktop changed to display the logo of Word (W)

    Separated from this thread.

My HP laptop running on Windows 7 Home Basic 64-Bit. I have Microsoft Essentials antivirus. All icons on the desktop has changed to display the logo of Word (W). When I try to open programs, they all open the new document page in Word with "File Conversion - explorer.exe" dialog box. This happened after I inserted a borrowed Memorystick. Why can't I clean my pc with Microsoft Essentials?

    Hi Kata'ntja,

If you can access the internet in any way, If you use Windows 7, go to http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/19449-default-file-type-associations-restore.html. and run the program to restore the EXE and possibly LNK file associations. That should restore your programs.

    Good luck

  • shortcut icons on the desktop

OK, it is not important, but the names of my shortcut icons on the desktop, suddenly changed - now I have white writing on a gray background.  How to change?

You can use system restore to roll back the machine back to a point just before that the problem started.

(Thanks to Alan Edwards for what follows, a search for "icons transparent alan edwards" will always find quickly and easily the solution).

Four things are needed for the transparent icon backgrounds:

    1. Control Panel-System-Advanced-Performance settings.
Check "Shadows fall to use the desktop icon labels" on the display
    Effects tab.

2 - Click on Desktop - "arrange icons by" and ensure the lock Web
    items is disabled.

    3. transparency will not work if you have the web content on your desktop.
Control panel - display properties Desktop tab - customize the Office-
Web tab, clear all the check boxes.

    4. ensure that the wallpaper is an image file no HTML.

  • Hide the Desktop.ini from the 'view' position, while leaving the ticked the checkbox show all system files?

This worked fine with XP, but doesn't seem to work in Vista or W7.  I need the abililty to see all systems files and folders when you use the Explorer; However, I don't want to see the files on my desktop system.  After the 'bureau' is a special "display".  Is she can combine and display information from several sources (for example. C:\Users\Public\Desktop as well as my profile).  In addition, the desktop contains icons that are not in the profile of a user (for example. Network, computer, etc.), but they also present.  My point is that Microsoft has made a point to differentiate the Office Explorer view but incoherent.  As said above this worked fine with XP (and Windows 2000), but deserted in Vista and W7.  Y at - it another way to display all the files and folders system without displaying on the desktop?
    Concerning

You have a bug because desktop.ini is not displayed, even if you check Show hidden files.

On computer and network - icons you can hide using a customization: right-click on the desktop > personalize > change desktop icons > uncheck these icons

    ...

I was wrong, showing desktop.ini is not a bug... You just bought too many options of folder and Search Options. I wonder how many times you need to see the protected file system? Because you unchecked to hide the protected operating system files . Another option: driver, Show hidden files and folder will show you everything you need. If you are not convinced, just go in a place where you expect that Hide protected system files will hide something important to you and to see these files will really disappear after choosing that Hide protected operating system files.

  • Problem of icons on the desktop with Windows 7

    The evening

The icons on my desktop constantly changing arrangement. This seems to be a flaw in Windows 7 I saw several other posts on various forums all relate to the same question...

My first thought was to contact MS and ask about this, but this idea was quickly put end when I discovered that they would charge me for this match (Yes, even it was involving an operating system 'fault' instead of asking me generic technical support!)

Any ideas on a fix people? This bug is extremely irritating (for not to mention affecting a great many users!)

    See you soon!

    Brian,

    Check here:

    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

If the value doesn't exist or the value 0 and the problem persists, you can try to create a new user account and see if it works fine there.
