The Libretto U100 disk partitioning

The Libretto U100 online manual seems to discourage the use of 3rd party software to partition hard drive 60 GB. I want to use Norton Partition Magic to create virtual drives plus 3. Is this a problem?

HI Tony,.

I see no problem using PartionMagic to divide your hard drive.

  • Password Protection for hard drive on the Libretto U100

I want to protect my data in the event that I should lose my U100. Initially, I asked a password to the Bios, which is quite easy using Toshiba Assist/user password. But even better would be to apply the same password on the hard drive as well. On the Tecra M5, you can make this Toshiba Assist and safety help, but there is no option on my U100.

The Bios has options to enter a 'HARD disk' password but when I try to do, he turns back to "Unlisted" when I try to save the change.

There is no mention of HHD password in UK documentation, but the Australian version seems to have the feature. This site http://www.continent.com.au/buy-1990.html claims "hard drive password prevents unauthorized hard disk access and can be synchronized with the password" – that sounds just the same as on my M5.

I would like to know if anyone here has had success with application to a disk to their U100 password.

    Hello

Toshiba security help is not installed on the Libretto U100 and so you cannot use this function as on the Tecra M5.

Sometimes, the HARD drive password can be set in the BIOS.
If you want to set the password disk HARD check if it can be done in the BIOS!

    But attention!
If you forgot the disc HARD password you will not be able to access the HARD drive and the HARD drive is no longer accessible.

  • Upgrade the hard drive in the Libretto U100 to SSD drive

Anyone who undertakes an upgrade of the hard drive in a Libretto U100 to a SSD? This would surely greatly improve performance. What size is the hard drive in the U100 and which connector is used to connect the drive? Can anyone tell if this mod is possible?

    Spymaster

So, I have a machine with an SSD (Tecra M5) and it works like a charm. Unfortunately, the discs are too expensive at the moment but you can benefit from a real performance.

Regarding your question: should be possible. You have a 1.8 inch drive "installed and there are SSDS which have almost the same form factor. Usually the U100 was delivered with MK6006GAH or MK3006GAL disks.

Here´s a site that might help, given that the reader has the same connector as the disc in your computer: http://www.dvnation.com/microatapics.html

Just check it out and I hope you can use my index research on SSDS... :)

  • Card SD NOT recognized on the Libretto U100/U105 with Win XP

I have several booklet, a combination of U100 and U105, with Win XP SP3.

I'm astronished and disappointed that Toshiba is a not ship computers laptops with SD card reader drivers.

Please, should what driver I install to get the SD card reader work?

    Thanks in advance!

    > I am astronished and disappointed that Toshiba is a not ship computers laptops with SD card reader drivers.

So all the drivers for Win XP for this Libretto U100 series are available on the European driver Toshiba page
So I m wondering why you're disappointed with Toshiba

However, I could find the driver choose:
    Product type: Archives
    Family: booklet
    Series of products: Libretto U100
    Short num: PLU10E
    OS: Windows XP

Now you should get all the Win XP drivers.

I guess that the Cardbus driver is the driver you are looking for her should get the card reader controller to work.
In addition, you must install the SD Secure Module. This software is an update for your TOSHIBA Secure Digital Host controller.

  • The problem with the battery on the Libretto U100

    Hello.

The problem is the following: shortly after the start of the loading of the battery starts squeaking (or whistle, subtle signals coming from somewhere inside the laptop or battery) and after a while, stop the load! Windows displays a message, "Battery" unknown, to continue the exercises, you must remove and insert again the battery and so 5 times until the load is complete. And the absence of such an accusation, not more than 1 hour and 45 minutes.

    That's happened?

    Capitalist salvation,
    Remember john lennon? "It's easy".

I think that this little piece of Tech is a bit old...
and has been used for a period of time to stay...

the battery disappeared, some cells can't hold not more fresh...
therefor the voltage misscounted, leads to the "unrecognized".
    We must exchange the battery...

  • For the Libretto U100 Vista drivers?

I have read reports on the net of people run Vista on UMPC such as the Samsung Q1, since the specification of these units is lower that the booklet, it made me think to install Vista on the booklet... are Toshiba plans to release for the U100 Vista compatible drivers?

I realize it's a rare feature but it would be a feature showcase.

    Thank you.

    Hello

To my knowledge the portable booklet are out of life. The Toshiba does not design and produce this model of laptop.
I m not 100% sure but I think Toshiba will not Vista drivers for the small, tiny booklet.
Further, I think that the book is not Vista capable

But you can visit the Microsoft Web site to verify the specifications and equipment that are necessary for the performance of Vista.

  • Two months using the Libretto U100

    Very good product:
I use the U100 for two months as a mat - almost - nothing, clone of my main computer (Tecra S1) and I am very happy with it. The fingerprint reader is surprisingly useful and I even got used to the small keyboard.

Initially, however, I found a lot of text on the screen too small to read and given that the solution was not obvious (at least to me :-]) I write my solution here, as well as some other conclusions. I hope that others will find it useful, and perhaps others after their experiences too.

    View Tweak:
Right-click on the desktop, choose Properties and click on the settings tab. Click the Advanced button, and then select the monitor tab. Ignore the warning under the box "Hide modes this monitor cannot display" and uncheck the box. Click OK, and then change the screen resolution slider (in display properties) to the value previously not 1280 x 1024. This gives a virtual screen more larger than the physical screen, but when you mouse up or down, with a height of the screen upward or down to suit.

Now click again on the button Advanced, open the general tab and change the DPI setting to 96 to a value of "Custom" of 144 (150% of normal size) and click OK. This makes most of the 50% text larger. (If you do this, without changing the screen resolution you will see that some Windows OK, cancel and apply buttons become inaccessible over the bottom of the screen). Most of the screens work fine, even if the text can get a little cramped in some (e.g., Toshiba Power Saver).

    Tweak mouse:
To make the pointer of the mouse more usable, open Start/Settings/Control Panel/mouse, select the pointer Options tab and set the pointer to the maximum speed and check the "enhance pointer precision.

    Zoom:
Function of Zoom from Toshiba works very well for the icons of the desktop and software applications. But in Internet Explorer, I think it's too tedious to use, because must readjust the zoom whenever you change the page. I found that the best solution was to use Opera as default browser instead of IE. He has a great zoom feature built-in and you can even zoom using the mouse wheel.

    Synchronization of files and Emails:
After many trials, I found a really great software called Easy2Sync (http://www.itsth.de/en/produkte/easy2sync.php?M) that easily and surely synchronizes my Docs and MS Outlook between U100 and my main computer. Now, I use a machine interchangeably and simply sync them then on the local Wifi network.

    Save:
If Toshiba did the hard drive accessible to the user as on Tecras, I'd use Casper XP to clone the same disc in a USB2 support. Instead, I use Acronis True Image to keep an image of the drive to an external drive. I did restorations of the trial and it works fine.

    Desk Top Search:
I use Copernic Desktop Search on both machines. The latest version (1.6) is more appropriate than before because you can set it to index on power supply only.

    MS Office ToolBar:
Even with the "big buttons" selected, I find it too small to be usable. Instead, I did a local equivalent bar to help "new toolbar integrated" XP option. I then clicked on the toolbar, select display and checked "Large icons").

    Two gripes:
Nothing is perfect, so in the Toshiba case are listening:

    1. the fingerprint reader works after sleep, but not after the hibernation. You must first click on the thumbprint icon to remove the footprint display square, and then again to restore. After that, it works normally.

    2. I want a warning "caps lock" light because it's too easy to hit the 'caps lock' button instead of 'a '.

    Hello David

A few days ago, I saw this toy and it is very well designed. I really don't like to use small notebooks like booklet. Portege R200 is for me very nice and it is for me the best solution for an ultraportable.

As I already said the booklet is very well designed. Just a feature is not positive for me. The cover of the screen has a very wide edge and, in my opinion, the biggest Billboard could be much better.

I wish you lots of fun with your new toy.

Hello: first time using this forum. Here's my problem. I have a custom-made computer who use to allow me to duel boot into the operating system of my choice. I have recently had problems at the start where the start cycle automatically sends me to my windows 7 OS. • Libretto U100: Question about upgrade 60 GB HARD drive

    Sorry about that...

I gave a number of price and the part for an UPGRADE to my MEMORY *(NOT THE HARD DISK) * 512 to 1 GB part number: KTT3311/1 G of OFFTEK. I hope this is the correct number of memory for the U100 with part number in my previous message.

Looking for the number of the hard disk.

    What I found was a * HD 60GB 2.5 "8 MB 5400 RPM - part of Sweety: MK6034GAX * for £29,19 INC VAT. From DABS.com
Is that the correct HD at this price? The cost of £80 - £100 elsewhere.

Therefore, the upgrade from a 30 to 60 GB HD that I am looking for the part number for.

    Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks for any help, a contributor can offer.

    Hello

You can use the modules of memory from different manufacturers. Only the specifications of memory are important! Compatible modules are DDR2-400/333 PC2700.

If you want you can also use these modules from Toshiba:
    512 MB (PA3412U - 1 M 51)
    1024MB (PA3313U-2M1G)

You know this site of memory? :
    http://www.orcalogic.co.UK/ASP/ProdType.asp?ProdType=31679&ft=m&St=3

You will also find compatible modules from Kingston.

    With regard to the drive HARD;
Well, the price of HARD drive are different. It's not easy to tell if the price is too high or not. It depends on many factors such as; place of purchase, dealer, country, etc.

The Libretto U100 was delivered with a 60GB drive HARD IDE (ATA-6).
You can use every HARD disk that supports the specifications of this!

So just google for the best offer or contact the ASP in your country to order a new HARD disk that is compatible.

  • Libretto U100 2 GB memory upgrade?

On the librettoworld.com forum (http://forum.librettoworld.com/u-model/maximum-ram-capacity-t31.html) there is a debate as to the maximum capacity of ram of the Libretto U100.

According to the specifications of the U100, 1 x 1 GB is the maximum. According to intel, the maximum value of the 855GME chipset (http://www.intel.com/Products/Notebook/Chipsets/855GME/855GME-overview.htm) is 2 GB.

So, can I use a single 2 GB module in my U100, or 2 GB for memory 2 slots or something?

    Hello

Maybe you need to download the user manual and need to check.

    The user manual says:
The slot accepts the module of RAM of 256 MB, 512 MB and 1 GB for a maximum of 1280 MB of memory.

You know that 256 MB of RAM is installed on the motherboard than the internal memory and can not be deleted.
As a location is available and you can use only one memory card!

    Good bye

  • Libretto U100 - exchange of HARD drive

Is it possible to change the hard drive of a Libretto U100 without voiding the warranty? Does anyone tried to do it again?

Change HDD on the Libretto U100 is very complicated and without maintenance manuals, you can not do this. Believe me, booklet design is quite complicated and I don't think you can do it yourself.

  • Satellite Pro A210 1AZ Disk Partitions

    Hello

Hope someone can explain to me. We have two Satellite Pro A210 1AZ identical machines, Windows Vista Home, 120 GB of disk. They have two partitions on the disk in the computer. C: Vista is 56.2 GB and data E: is 54.0 GB. I guess there are other accounts hidden for the missing 10 GB partition and I guess that is the recovery partition.

My problem is the following. Everything written in C:, programs, Documents etc., and it is more or less complete. The E: is not used. Why is there an E: partition? Why not a single 110GB C:?

I know that I can copy files on the E: partition but trying I find annoying. My wife doesn't understand anything on the partitions, folders and files and just wants everything to be where you expect it to be - in Documents or photos. Seems reasonable.

What can I do to get rid of the E: thing and have just a large C:?

NB - I have no interest is messing around with the PC, I want to just use it and forget about it.

    Thank you

    Fred

    Hello Fred

I don't know how much experience you have with the PC, but it is usual to divide the hard driver to two or more partitions. each partition can have a different name and you can save specific data on the specific partition.

For example, I have three partitions:
    C for the operating system
Private D for stuff like photos, movies and mp3 files and
    E for Business stuff

Anyway, if you want to have a (the ability of the entire HARD disk) partition, you can delete second partition and expand the C partition to use any HARD drive capacity.
Open Control Panel > administrative tools > computer management.

In the left pane, under storage category, click on disk management
Now select and right mouse button click on the partition that you want to change.
In the context menu, you will see options to extend, reduce or remove the partition. Select the option you want.
If your 2nd partition is empty, you can remove the 2nd partition, and then expand the 1st partition to use the freed up space.

So to learn more about the bits and bytes please http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/OPT7301UY001JR01.htm

    Bye and good luck!

  • HARD does not work after changing the disk partitions recovery media creator

    Hello world

After installing windoows 8.1 April major upgrade (win 8.1 presents as OEM), and have shrunk C partition to create a data partition "D", "Troubleshooting" option under advanced start menu is no longer available.

Toshiba Recovery Media Creator does not work, too (it can not find any hard disk recovery partion).
I got in the OEM recovery partition.
I am also able to create a recovery using the Windows tool unit.
You have no idea about it?

    Thank you very much!

    Hello

Sorry to hear about all this. Unfortunately, you now have a big problem. I don't understand why you didn't create support of recovery before you started to change the factory settings, including to change the structure of the partitions of HARD drive.

Mobile offered with factory settings a structure specific partitions and recovery recorded image is saved on the partition of drive specific and marked with invisible markers. These markers are visible for preinstalled Toshiba recovery media creator tool and when you start the tool can find points of reference and has full access to specific files.

Unfortunately, after changing the original scores structure Toshiba tool cannot find these markers more and is not able to copy files from recovery media recovery. What you need now is the original recovery disk. Using this disk, you can install original recovery image and after doing this, you will have new factory settings.

I know it sounds stupid now but you must order the original recovery disk and it can be done on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx
