The search bar disappeared.

Everything I see on the window is the name of my tabs and Favorites. The place type in my search for websites and google disappeared.

Make sure the toolbars like the toolbar 'Navigation' and the 'personal bar' are visible:

  • "View > toolbars".

Open the window customize to set the toolbar to display items:

  • View > toolbars > customize
  • Make sure the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" are on the personal bar
  • If the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the bookmarks toolbar, then FRY it in the toolbar palette in the window the bookmarks toolbar Customize
  • If the missing elements are in the toolbar palette then drag them from the window, customize the toolbar
  • If you do not see an item on a toolbar in the toolbar palette and then click the button "Restore default" to restore the default toolbar set up

You can check for problems with the localstore.rdf file if it does not work.

Hi, hopefully a screenshot can make things more clear - when you right click in the area of the red dot, then a popup menu will appear where you can re-enable the toolbar of bookmarks.

  • Google and Wikipedia and possibly other search engines, have suddenly disappeared as a choice in the search bar

I'm fairly certain that Google has always been my default search engine when you search using the address bar, but it has been switched to Yahoo Search.

I tried to follow the suggestion to open the box to "Manage search engines" and clicking on the button "Restore default settings", but the button is grey and inactive. I then installed the SearchReset 0.2 Add on, which had another solution found in the recommended Firefox Help. This changed my homepage on the default setting and deleted Yahoo as search engine when you use the address bar (even if the research is now not possible at all here), but it has not reset the search somehow bar, and Google and Wikipedia are not always listed as a choice. Also, search Reset didn't uninstall properly said, as he is still listed as an add-on, even if the description on the homepage SearchReset says that this will happen automatically.

I mention also that, at the same time, the search bar, difficulties began, the 2.2.2 ForecastFox add-on has stopped working and has disappeared from the status bar, but I was able to restore by disabling everything first and then allowing him once again. Also, until I was able to restore ForecastFox, Firefox would crash, whenever I clicked on "Manage search engines", but this crash has not happpened for ForecastFox has been restored. Weird!

    Dear GBinHoosick

All of a sudden all my search engines by default FireFox search missing. Sweet Im has been replaced... The fix for me was quite simply after a search for hours for many who did not.

I went to C: program Files\MozillaFirefox... I noticed there are two folders that says SearchPlugins, which was empty, and Searchplugins (2) which contains all of the default values, Google, Yahoo etc. I copied these Searchplugins (2) of and stuck looking for Plugins and the problem resolved.
Hope this works for you too

  • Disappeared from the search bar. How can I get that back?

The right of the missing address bar search bar by double clicking. The need to double-tap started after the last software update. He was a nuisance and now has caused the loss of the search bar.

You can get the search like this bar:

-Open the menu (the button with three horizontal lines) - choose ' customize' - click and drag the bar in search of good place - click "customize output.

When exactly do you need to double click, btw?

  • Search bar disappeared?

the search bar has disappeared from my screen... all the news about the search bar refers to one that is now DEFUNCT.
No info on how to restore it?

Note that ff you right click on an item to toolbar in normal mode (non-personnaliser) mode, and then you can remove this item from the toolbar.

    • "Remove from toolbar" will remove this element of the Navigation toolbar and moves it to the palette to customize (Firefox '3-bar' menu button > customize)
    • "Go to the Menu" will move this point '3' dropdown menu Firefox button bar
    • "Move to the toolbar" in the "3-bar" Firefox dropdown menu button will move that point to the toolbar

Open the Customize and set the toolbar to display items.

    • Firefox '3-bar' menu button > customize
    • View > toolbars > customize
    • If the missing elements are in the palette to customize then drag them back into the window to customize the toolbar
    • If you don't see an article on a toolbar and in the palette to customize, then click on the reset default button to restore the default toolbar configuration

Hello Chaosdruid, This is the correct behavior, ctrl + f to open the search bar, try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe mode is a troubleshooting mode that disables some settings and disables most Add-ons (extensions and themes).

(If you are using an additional theme, place you in default theme.)

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Mode without failure of Firefox in the Help menu by clicking on the restart with the disabled... modules menu item:

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Mode safe mode as follows:

    • On Windows: Hold down the SHIFT key when you open the desktop Firefox or shortcut in the start menu.
    • On Mac: Hold the option key during the startup of Firefox.
    • On Linux: Exit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox-safe-mode
(you may need to specify the installation path of Firefox for example/usr/lib/firefox)

Once you get the pop-up, simply select "" boot mode safe. "

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to understand that one. Please follow the section Troubleshooting extensions, themes and problems of hardware acceleration to resolve common Firefox problems to find the cause.

To exit safe mode of Firefox, simply close Firefox and wait a few seconds before you open Firefox for normal use again.

    Thank you

  • It is always possible to search with different search engines in the search bar and address bar?

I used to use the address bar of Firefox to search for things on Google and the search bar to search for things on Wikipedia. The convenience, especially with the shortcuts Ctrl + L and Ctrl + K has been incredible and I don't understand why this feature would disappear so I guess that it simply was hidden without subject: config somewhere. How can I go on revenant Firefox which is previous feature?

Note: I use the Nightly build of Firefox for 64-bit systems, if this issue must be addressed specifically to this branch of development please directly to where I can do.

From 23 of Firefox, the address bar uses the search engine selected in your search bar.

Assign keywords to your search engines, then the prefix of your search in the address bar query, for example

    g gingerbread recipes

Google search for revenues of gingerbread.

For more information, see the section "Key words" in the following article.

If you can't stand absolutely avoid typing two extra characters, then you can try the following extension. It has not been considered by a Firefox Add-ons site editor, so use it at your own risk.

  • When I click on the URL bar or the search bar, it is not select the text or show the cursor as before.

AS says the question, when I clicked on the search bar in previous versions, 'Google' would disappear and I would see the blinking cursor. When I click on the URL to a blank tab, he would choose the text, and I'd see a slider when I typed or backspaced to delete the selected text. Now, none of this happens.

After a bit of troubleshooting, it seems that any theme I use is causing this problem.

In the previous version of Firefox, I used the exact same plugins modules and the theme and never had this problem.

I went thru and I tried to disable all the modules and plugins, and if I run in safe mode, I have the same result. None of the modules or plugins causes this. It seems to be a theme that I use that causes this.

As I said in my original question, it happened with any theme, I used. Some changed the color, some are not.

This can be locked, unless someone else has the same problem and wants to continue to use Firefox 15 or more.

I went back to an earlier version. Unless they add the ability to change this absurd, useless, counterintuitive behavior, I don't "upgrade" any time soon.

  • The search bar has no motor; then when I 'manage', basics like google are not available (probably because it should be there by default). Help!

I tested each beta without any real problems. Then, when I installed 4b 11, I tried to use the search bar, and it wouldn't work. I clicked on the menu drop down and realized that all the engines had disappeared. So, I went to "manage search engines" and confirmed that none have been installed. The problem is, when I click on "get more search engines," I can only find variations on the engines real I want..., google, yahoo, etc. I'm guessing that because it should be there as part of the software? I have now 4.0RC, and the same problem exists. Please help, you have my gratitude!

    1. Click the icon to search on the search bar engine
    2. Open "manage search engines".
    3. Click on "Restore default settings"

We will check a userChrome.css file:

    • button '3-bar' menu > '? ' button > Troubleshooting Information
    • (menu bar) Help > troubleshooting information
    • type or paste everything: in the address bar and press Enter

In the first table of the page, click on the view file"" button. This should launch a new window that lists the various files and folders in Windows Explorer.

In your profile folder, look for a folder of chrome . If you find one, double-click in it and look for a file named userChrome.css that might contain rules modifying the Firefox toolbar area. Something like that?

  • How can I remove a distracting green icon on the search bar?

Please find attached image of distracting green icon in the search bar. I saw 'elegant' installation options and editing of CSS scripts, but these make everyone feel as very complicated for a relatively simple problem; not to mention other users looking for a solution maybe not programmers, nor confident in editing scripts. This overlap of the icons is not aesthetic and constantly draws the eye to the search bar.

This is the search bar 'new '.

If you want to restore the window previously used independently to manage
search engines, you can toggle this false with a doudle click pref
on the topic: config page: browser.search.showOneOffButtons = false
You will need to close and restart Firefox to make it work properly.

  • Firefox cannot connect to google in the search bar

I recently had an attacker change the IP address of the DNS server in my router to a bad. When it has been changed, I couldn't access google or facebook. I have fixed and can browse both sites, but the search bar in the upper right won't take me to google. I get an "Unable to connect" error. Do other search engines (e.g. wikipedia) is very good.

Firefox 37 right out of the box (+ router nonsense) on Ubuntu 14.

Time seems to have fixed. Maybe the https / /google.com ip has been in cache or something.
