Upgrade to vcenter server 5.1 without interrupting display connections

Dear Experts,

We need to upgrade the server vcenter to 5.1. VMware Server connection view won't

The ESX servers become 5.1 as well

Work with

-vmare vcenter server 5.0

-connection to the server view vmare 5.0 (no linked clone, automated pool)

-ESXi 5.0

Plan:

-In place move vcenter server 5.0 to vcenter server 5.1

Question:

-Could we perform the upgrade from vcenter without interrupting the view vmare machines?

-Is that I have to restart the server view connection manager

-During the upgrade, will be the loose connection to their machines?

-During the upgrade, the user will be able to authenticate, start their machines?

Thank you for your support

1: Yes

2: no

3: no

4: depends on what policies of power you are using.  Since vCenter is going to be offline you won't be able to start and stop machines.  The best thing is to change your feeding strategy for always under tension and ensure that all machines are available during the interview of vCenter.

Hi guys, I just wanted to check with you somethings, I need to run the below to be in compliance with the last safety:

Upgrade to VMware vCenter Server 5.5u2d (5.5.0 build-2183111) or later, our current version is 5.5.0 build-1945274.

Yes, just make sure backup your base of data and/or your vCenter VM snapshot and to proceed with the custom installation wizard.

  • The upgrade to vCenter Server 5.5 U1 beat vCO AD Plugin

    Hey guys,.

I've recently updated vCenter Server (under Windows) to 5.5 U1, and so vCO has been upgraded to the latest version as well. It seems that the AD plugin has been upgraded to 1.0.4 - 763 and now can not be configured correctly. The vCO newspapers give the following:

2014-05-12 12:11:14.141 - 0400 [WorkflowExecutorPool-thread-1] ERROR {[email protected]: Configure Active Directory server: 8a6abc61-9f1e-4b75-84e3-5f7ed902af57:1d74889645f12cdf0145f133c1e20009} [MSPluginFactory] condition of credentials are corrupted.

Furthermore, when I try to set up an advertising server by using the plug-in, I have the following problem, showing me one of the configuration objects is null - 'ConfigurationManager '.

2014-05-12 12:11:14.251 - 0400 [WorkflowExecutorPool-thread-1] WARN {[email protected]: Configure Active Directory server: 8a6abc61-9f1e-4b75-84e3-5f7ed902af57:1d74889645f12cdf0145f133c1e20009} Script Runtime error [WorkflowItemTaskRunner] on the workflow: Server Configure Active Directory / 'Configuration' (item1) update: ReferenceError: 'ConfigurationManager' is not defined. (Workflow: Configure the Active Directory Server / update of Configuration (item1) #10)-null

We do not use LDAPS, LDAP standard, so I don't see why we would receive an exception of encryption, and the 'ConfigurationManager' null configuration object is interesting.

Is it possible to reset the configuration of the plugin, re-establish a connection, and try again? I prefer not to reinstall this vCO, as we have done a lot of configuration.

Uninstalling and reinstalling the 1.0.4 plugin does not seem to solve the problem. I should come back 1.0.3 or can it?

    Thanks for all your help.

Thank you, Christophe, who complained of being 'ConfigurationManager' being missing (according to the first message in this thread). That said...

    Rename/Delete the

    C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\Orchestrator\app-server\conf\plugins\AD.xml and

    C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\Orchestrator\app-server\server\vmo\conf\plugins\AD.xml

and re - configure the plugin (1.0.3 in this case) AD, seems to have allowed the AD connection is restored. At that time, we were see errors in the vCO related to plugin configuration of the client (it seems that all the old cruft of 1.0.4 has not been completely cleaned), so I upgraded the plugin from 1.0.3 to 1.0.4.

I can now browse through the structure of the AD in vCO as expected. A terrifying upgrade, plugin-breaking!

  • Stuck on "Upgrade to Vcenter Server Appliance"

We had a situation were our flash player running that esxi 5.0 began to go wrong, so we bought a new one and installed ESXi 5.5 on it. All our virtual machines are running, but I'm stuck on the attached screen. It did that for more and time at this stage and I have to leave soon. If I close my browser window will continue the update in the background?

Also, what happens in case of failure? Can I just install a new Vcenter Unit 5.5 from scratch without importing anything of the former and there are disadvantages to this?

It actually worked came Monday and Vcenter server 5.5 was running

  • The upgrade to vCenter Server to vCenter Server 5.1 5.1 update 1 when the SQL database is remote and vCenter Server Heartbeat is installed

    Hi guys,.

I'm in the middle of an upgrade to vSphere 5.1 5.1 vSphere update 1. I have vCenter protected by HB and SQL on a separate computer (also protected by HB) I also run Syslog, Update Manager and Proxy authentication on vCenter.

I've successfully upgraded HB on all 4 nodes (2 x vCenter & 2 x SQL) and started the upgrade components on the secondary according to the •vCenter Server Heartbeat 6.5 server and vCenter Update 1 Installation on Windows Server 2008 when the secondary server is virtual (PDF) http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vcenter-server-heartbeat-65-u1-installation-windows-2008-virtual-guide.pdf

    I got to step 3.c

    3. change the primary/active server role:

a launch of the vCenter Server Heartbeat wizard configure server and click the tab of the Machine to change the server role for the current server (primary) to the active State and click Finish.

b using the Service Control Manager, start the Server Heartbeat of VMware vCenter service.

c using the vCenter Server Heartbeat Console, check that all the status icons on the server: summary page are green indicating that the boot process is completed and protected from all the services are started.

d using the Service Control Manager, stop the service Server Heartbeat of VMware vCenter.

As the vCenter service does not start, I'm stuck at this point. As far as I'm concerned, the error is quite logical. I've updated vCenter using the secondary server, and then I'm trying to connect (according to the guide) with another version that breaks down.

If I continue with the services stop and launch the installer SSO, it is trying to perform an uninstall!

Did I miss something in this upgrade?

    Concerning

    Ciaran

Hi guys, VMware have finally updated the documentation to reflect the right way forward: https://www.vmware.com/support/pubs/heartbeat_pubs.html U1 6.5 Select from the menu drop-down and you'll see the last date of update for each of the documentation is now 10/10/2013. The guide States now specifically to restore the vCenter database before proceeding with any other measure, this is copied below for convenience: "the upgrade of the main server of the upgrade process further guess upgrading the secondary server completed successfully. Procedure 1 before continuing the upgrade process, perform a restore of the database of vCenter Server, Single Sign-On database, VMware Update Manager database and SSL certificates that were backed up in step 4 on the secondary server. regards Ciaran

  • Upgrade from vCenter Server 4 to vCenter 5 problems

I am trying to improve our server vCenter for ESXi 4.1 5. I ran the pre-upgrade and he reported no problems. After you have started the server vCenter 5 install received a message that it could not solve the COMPLETE computer domain name. I was connected under my auto (domain administrators) and could ping a domain FULL of my laptop. Is this an error message to the stop.

Then the installation wouldn't let me select the use of the local system for the Server service account. We have SQL 2008 installed on the server by using domain connections. At this point, I stopped the installation. Do I have to create a new domain account for the service and add it to SQL with SA privileges?

I have the downtime scheduled for this Monday finish the upgrade of our vCenter Server.

    Todd lemmiksoo

I recently came across the error "could not resolve field FULL of computer name", and which has proved to be a wrong PTR record in the reverse lookup zone. If there is an incorrect or missing PTR record, which could lead to this error.

You can consult the VMware Virtual Center Server service on your existing installation of vCenter to see which account is used on the tab log now? If it is not currently using the Local System account, you may need to use the account specified on the screen during the upgrade. If now it uses the Local System account, I don't know what to tell you on this subject.

  • Upgrad question, vCenter Server 4.0 Update 1

    Hi all:

This is my first post, and it's really stupid!  HI HI!

I look at my Server vCenter.  In the help about it says: I'm on the #208111 build.  But apparently the update 1 build # is: 208156 build?

When I download the ISO for the full install of update 1, it says I have to remove my vCenter continuous server rather than upgrade offer.  I found the Patch 1 file that says she is replaced by installing already on the server.

    What I am doing wrong?

you are in the correct version for vCenter4 U2.  The other version number you see includes all modules

VMware vCenter Server 4 and modules

Installer of VMware vCenter Server (build 208111), VMware vSphere Client (build 208111), VMware vSphere Host Update Utility, VMware vCenter Update Manager (build 208126), VMware vCenter Converter (build 206188), VMware Guided Consolidation vCenter and VMware vCenter Orchestrator. Available in English, German, Japanese, and Chinese simplified.

  • The upgrade to vCenter Server Foundation to the standard

I'm running vCenter Server Foundation and have reached the limit of 3 host. I bought the upgrade of Foundation to the standard, but I'm just curious as to what the upgrade process that is my license, so no downtime / a reconfiguration is required. Sorry if this has been answered many, I want just to get an idea of what I have to do once our license arrives.

    Thank you!

Simply place the .lic file in the folder of licenses from the license server.  Launch of LM, then click Reread License File and it will go look for him.

You don't need to replace the existing one that is there, just put another one there and it will merge the two files in the License Manager.

    Hello world

    Thank you

According to the interoperability matrix to:

No, vCenter 5.1 cannot manage ESX/ESXi 3.5 hosts.

We have guests ESX and ESXi 4.1 and just got a new host ESXi 5. We must now be upgraded vCetner to version 5 server in order to manage the new host. I know 5 4.1 manage vCenter hosts but do I need to be wary when it comes to the host that maintains the virtual computers view or the view Server 4.6 VM itself?

According to the comapbility matrix View 4.6 is not supported under vSphere or vCenter 5.

  • Difference between patches and upgrades in vCenter Server 4?

We improve just vCenter for version 4.  The ESX hosts are still running ESX 3.5 U5.

When we run the Update Manager, we see that there are two checkboxes - Patches and upgrade.  We assume that the patch is host and upgrade to ESX 3.5 to ESX 3.5 to vSphere 4.  Is this correct?

When we run Manager update with the two boxes checked, it appears the fixes that we must apply for these ESX 3.5 hosts.  However, there is no upgrade poster for us to upgrade to vSphere ESX 3.5 U5.  Are there any suggestions?

    Thank you

    Hi Tony,.

Box upgrade is when you want to scan your host for upgrade compliance - for example if it is 3.5 and want to upgrade to 4.0

Patches box is related to 3.5 and 4.0 host but only for cumulative patches, updates and individual patches.  That's the main difference - change the host of 3.5 to 4.0 version is done by upgrade and spend 3.5 U1 with U2's patch.

If you want to check what patches you need - create base patch dynamic host. Upgrade, you must download iso 4.0 upgrade of host based and clean up with her
