I use ESX 3.5.

Thanks in advance.

Pedro

Hello.

The latest version of vCenter 2.5 update 5 is build 174841 - check out the release notes for information about the installation or upgrade.

The latest version of vCenter is 4.0 - check out the release notes for information about the installation or upgrade.

The Installation Guides, referenced in each of the respective notes are excellent resources for the upgrade.

  • The upgrade to vCenter

I'm about to upgrade our cluster of vSphere ESXi 5 to 5.5, but before I did I wanted to confirm that the upgrade to vCenter there is no downtime for virtual machines hosted.  I don't plan any, but wanted to make sure that no one had met something unexpected.

    Tony

You do not wait to have a downtime of any virtual machines hosted by the upgrade to vCenter.

If you upgraded to v5.0, then you also need to install VMware Single Sign On (SSO), which was introduced to vSphere 5.1.

Your existing certificate will be in place while you perform the upgrade to vCenter server and after upgrade too.

  • The upgrade to vCenter Server to vCenter Server 5.1 5.1 update 1 when the SQL database is remote and vCenter Server Heartbeat is installed

    Hi guys,.

I'm in the middle of an upgrade to vSphere 5.1 5.1 vSphere update 1. I have vCenter protected by HB and SQL on a separate computer (also protected by HB) I also run Syslog, Update Manager and Proxy authentication on vCenter.

I've successfully upgraded HB on all 4 nodes (2 x vCenter & 2 x SQL) and started the upgrade components on the secondary according to the •vCenter Server Heartbeat 6.5 server and vCenter Update 1 Installation on Windows Server 2008 when the secondary server is virtual (PDF) http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vcenter-server-heartbeat-65-u1-installation-windows-2008-virtual-guide.pdf

    I got to step 3.c

    3. change the primary/active server role:

a launch of the vCenter Server Heartbeat wizard configure server and click the tab of the Machine to change the server role for the current server (primary) to the active State and click Finish.

b using the Service Control Manager, start the Server Heartbeat of VMware vCenter service.

c using the vCenter Server Heartbeat Console, check that all the status icons on the server: summary page are green indicating that the boot process is completed and protected from all the services are started.

d using the Service Control Manager, stop the service Server Heartbeat of VMware vCenter.

As the vCenter service does not start, I'm stuck at this point. As far as I'm concerned, the error is quite logical. I've updated vCenter using the secondary server, and then I'm trying to connect (according to the guide) with another version that breaks down.

If I continue with the services stop and launch the installer SSO, it is trying to perform an uninstall!

Did I miss something in this upgrade?

Hi guys, VMware have finally updated the documentation to reflect the right way forward: https://www.vmware.com/support/pubs/heartbeat_pubs.html U1 6.5 Select from the menu drop-down and you'll see the last date of update for each of the documentation is now 10/10/2013. The guide States now specifically to restore the vCenter database before proceeding with any other measure, this is copied below for convenience: "the upgrade of the main server of the upgrade process further guess upgrading the secondary server completed successfully. Procedure 1 before continuing the upgrade process, perform a restore of the database of vCenter Server, Single Sign-On database, VMware Update Manager database and SSL certificates that were backed up in step 4 on the secondary server. regards Ciaran

  • The upgrade to vCenter Server 5 with a view Server 4.6 on a host ESXi 4.1

We have guests ESX and ESXi 4.1 and just got a new host ESXi 5. We must now be upgraded vCetner to version 5 server in order to manage the new host. I know 5 4.1 manage vCenter hosts but do I need to be wary when it comes to the host that maintains the virtual computers view or the view Server 4.6 VM itself?

According to the comapbility matrix View 4.6 is not supported under vSphere or vCenter 5.

  • The upgrade from vCenter for 64-bit

I'm about to upgrade from version 4 to version 4.1 vcenter server and I have a few quick questions. I am a little concerned about the part of the database from the upgrade.  We currently have the database on a server remote windows 2003 and I was curious what, if anything, I have to do to the database if I use the DataMigration tool?  I have a new 64 bit server ready to go, but I'm a little curious what needs to be done to the database and it is ok to point the new 64-bit to 32-bit SQL server vCenter?  any help is appreciated.  Thanks for a great site!

  • Considering the upgrade to Fusion Version 3.1.3 (416484), OS x 10.6.8.  Advice?

I bought a MacBook Air in 2011, with the latest version of the Fusion.  I installed Windows 7 Ultimate and have never had any problems with it.  Lately, some new apps do not work on the BONE, so I am considering the upgrade to Yosemite or El Capitan.  I am concerned to make my system unstable, and some of the things I read on the blogs on El Capitan and Version 8.0 do not increase my confidence.

I OS X 10.6.8 and Fusion 3.1.3.  The MacBook Air is the Intel Core Duo 2.13 GhZ processor and 4 GB of RAM.  Can anyone give me some advice regarding the stability of the various upgrades of version for the OS and the merger?  In addition, there are issues related to upgrading the version of merge with Windows 7?  TIA

You need to upgrade the host operating system - Apple to not support 10.6.8 more, so you are exposed on the net.

The biggest challenge that you have is that all the new OS versions (i.e. support) really want 8 GB in the machine for a solid performance, so unfortunately, it is a simple minimum configuration for a modern machine.  but because of security issues, an upgrade is always a good idea. You might as well go to 10.11 - the system requirements are the same as 10.9 and 10.10, and there a lot of stability and security bugs.   To make it work OK with 4 GB on that CPU, you'll want to close all other applications before you start merging and stop melting when you use do not.

Here is the order of the steps, I suggest you:

    (1) make a full clone of the system to an external drive.  Time Machine is not enough, both because on this corruption operating systems silent vintage can slip, and Time Machine is not reliable for the backup of virtual machines at all.  I recommend Carbon Copy Cloner, of www.bombich.com.  Mike is a great guy, and that the software has saved my bacon many countless times.

    (2) stop - no suspend - all your virtual machines.  Delete snapshots, you might (I'm not sure if had Fusion 3 snapshots, but if she did, removed at 100%).

IMPORTANT: If you use the former FileVault 1 (which is what came with 10.6.8), you MUST disable it before upgrading.  Check system preferences/security/filevault.  If it was turned on, make another clone after deactivation.

    3) upgrade your host operating system.  That will turn off a lot of your software (including Fusion), as incompatible.

    (4) upgrade of all other software including Fusion to the current version.

    (5) start the virtual computer and upgrade the virtual hardware and VMWare tools when you are prompted.

    (6) make sure that the virtual machine has only 1 GB of RAM and 1 core assigned to it if you can.

    Hello, everyone!

I have several questions about upgrading to vCenter 5 foundation:

    (1) is editing Foundation vCenter is frowned upon in vSphere 6?

    (2) If a client vCenter Foundation 5 license and valid SnS, can it move its vCenter server to vCenter 6 Foundation?

    (3) if the customer has vCenter Foundation 5 license and SnS validates that lisenses must purchase for upgrade to vsphere 6?
