The WiFi function of the speed signal strength

Several cities around the world to offer free WIFI services.  For example, Sunnyvale, California and Jerusalem (Israel), are two cities that are completely compatible WIFI.  WIFI also became ubiquitous regularly in several small towns and suburbs; but, alas, not yet in rural remote.  With the exception of safety and security, how the following services would compare (all things being equal) with each other in terms of web-surfing faster and more efficient?

WIFI (Protocol N) with very good (four of the five green bars) resistance and quality of the Signal and 18 MB/s speed.
WIFI (Protocol N) with good (three of the five green bars) quality & strength of the Signal and to 36 Mbps speed.
WIFI (Protocol N) with fair (two of the five green bars) quality & strength of the Signal and 54 Mbps speed.
Yet once, whose one of the three above strength & Signal quality and speed combinations would be the best for surfing the Internet and also watch videos on YouTube?  In general, which of the two is more important to speed or Signal strength/quality?
Thank you very much
Joe.

The 36 Mbps would be the best and the fastest.  Low signal strength will cause too many retransmissions of data occur, so the effective speed would be reduced. The 36 Mbps with good signal strenght has speed and signal strength that few or no packets are lost so easily outperforming the 18 Mbps connection.

Something in that you have no account is this interference from nearby devices or people walking past a table where your laptop is can sometimes slow down thigs.

  • The low signal strength WET610N

My WET610N is on a 5 GHz wireless network and is located about 30 feet from my router (Netgear C3700) with a line of direct sight.  The 5 GHz network uses channel 11 operation up to 145Mbs.  The WET610N shows a signal strength of 28%.  My laptop wireless, running "WiFi channel Scanner" is positioned near the WET610N and shows the signal strength 85% on the same 5 GHz network.

A Speedtest.net test on the laptop computer watch ~ 60Mbs speeds on a connection from Time Warner ISP download 100Mbs.  The WET610N, running the same test of Speedtest.net shows only the 5Gbs of download speeds.

The intensity of the signal would be the cause for the lower results of speedtest?  Wireless Setup is not that many configuration options.  Which parameters can affect the intensity of the WET610N signal?

BTW, I tried the same tests on the network wireless 2.4 GHz, with similar results.

OK, I just made a major discovery, but I'm still not sure on how to correct what I discovered.

On a whim, I unplugged my desktop computer, which is a system 8.1 of Windows, the WET610N and plugged my laptop, which is still under Windows 7.  When I ran the test, Speedtest.net, my laptop registered 97Mbps download speeds!

Thus, it seems that the WET610N works beautifully and it's something on my desktop does not work properly.  I recently upgraded to the Windows 7 Desktop to Windows 8.1, and I remember very well that the network provided quickly enough before the upgrade.  Maybe it's the network on Windows 8.1 driver.

Anyway, I guess I should mark this issue as resolved, since this is obviously not a problem with the WET610N.  If anyone has any advice about network speed using Windows 8.1, your answer would be approciated.

  • The low signal strength with Ralink RT5390 on HP Dv6

I have two other laptops HP which connect to my wireless router, both have a signal strength 3-4 bar using Intel 5100 and 5300 AGN wireless cards.

My dv6-6145dx has a Ralink RT5390 and gets only 2-3 bars, but mostly just 2.  I use the laptop in the same place as the others and even tried to move get a signal louder, but nothing has worked.

I googled and it seems that the RT5390 had some problems like this.  I'm now thinking that maybe I should buy a wireless card replacement.  Intel made half wireless pci-e cards, but I have no idea if they are supported. Should I get the Atheros?

EDIT: for anyone suffering from slow response of Ralink RT5390 in their computer HP laptop, definitely try the latest pack of driver software from the HP Business Center.  I installed it on my computer and it has greatly improved responsiveness.  It is still not a great card, but at least I'm able to use it now without feeling like I'm on a dial-up connection!

    Hello:

Have you tried the latest version of the Ralink driver (5.0.15.0 - March 26, 2013) for your current card?

  • WRT610N new firmware - capped at 150 Mbps with the excellent signal strength?

I've just updated to firmware 1.00.02.10, had no problem to upgrade.  I have reset the router default settings after update (via the user interface, not via the button on the back) and even he restarted for good measure.  It is covering the same way I got it before the upgrade, but my 5 GHz channel set up to 150 Mbit/s for some reason any.  I am less than 5 feet between the router and am fluctuating between excellent and very good signal strength.

Actually, the fact that it is even fluctuating force signal very good this distance is weird also, but I am especially interested in the 150 Mbps.

    Any thoughts?

Do not take account of this issue, I knew that I should have tried this before posting here...

I restarted my computer, and it is now pulling between 270 and 300 Mbps.

  • BlackBerry Z10 Z10 and the carrier Signal strength

I don't know if this is related to the question of appeals Z10 has dropped, but I noticed that my carrier signal strength jumps from full bars to (say) 2 shelves for the big X red for no reason my phone is just sitting there.

This may be related, but I also calls recently, and my quality of phone (although normally I would say great) was virtually zero as if I had to drive into a tunnel (you know, that jerky digitized sound).  Actually, I was sitting in front of one of my rounds of carriers.

I would appreciate ideas... I'm on OS 10.1.0.1720 official on Telus.

I have the same problem on Rogers and my father done to MTS. We are in Manitoba. Very strange how it fluctuates constantly. Found in Toronto it was stable, and the LTE with Rogers.

  • Aironet 1200 series - power of the weak signal near AP

I recently bought an access point of the Aironet 1200 (AIR-AP1231G-A-K9) series and the initial setup - IP configuration on the AP, the installer does a SSID and turn on the radio.

I used my laptop to connect to the SSID that I created, but to my surprise the signal strength of my SSID was only 2 bars and sometimes 1 bar and I'm within 2 feet of the access point. However, the speed of connection/signal quality was varying between 24 Mbps and 36 Mbps.

Why is the signal strength so low?

Is is because I did not buy them with external antennas?

I missed something during the initial Setup?

Y at - it an option that I have change/fine adjust in the GUI to get the best signal strength?

    Help, please.

"Is is because I did not buy them with external antennas?

Yes, that's correct. There is no internal antennas on this model of AP.

You need at least one, preferably two antennas of the same type for each radio. If you have the old 'A' radio with the paddle antenna, then you only need one or two antennas of radio 2.4 G.

    Good luck

  • Latitude C640 with 1470 mini pci wifi has very low signal strength

I just installed 1470 broadcom mini pci card with the 4.10.40.0 (from decompression R115321.exe) on a Dell Latitude C640 driver version.

The card sees the network and connects, but I must be withinn 5 feet from the router, and even in this case the signal is 'Very low' (an or maybe 2 bars). I can communicate with various other wireless cards on other laptops with the full signal strength during the major part of the House.

Why the intensity of the signal would be so bad?

Is the 1470 is not very sensitive? the driver is bad for my setup? is there an INCOMPATIBILITY between the 1470 and the DLink DI-524 router? Is this an indication that the antenna on my wifi card is damaged? (I got it on ebay)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Low House Wireless Signal strength

I am now able to see my home wireless network, but unable to connect! I'm only on the 6% signal strength when I'm right next to him. I don't understand why the signal is so weak when I used this home network for 3 years with no aging. I'm sure that it is linked to all other issues I had with... I must not be implemented this correction properly... any suggestions?

    Thank you

  • Improve the speed of the wifi at the bottom

I have an Apple AirPort Extreme in my office upstairs. I get 200 Mbps wireless download in my office. A flight down, almost directly below my router, I have only 30-40 MB/s download. What is the best way to increase my download speed?

You can download the app on your iPad AirPort Utility and the WiFi scanner allows to check the signal strength of your network and all competitors.

You could do better if you have set up separate systems 2.4 and 5 GHz, and connected to the 5 GHz for 802.11ac performance, assuming that your device can support. What are we talking about here?

  • How to test the signal strength of an Airport Express, which extends a network?

I am trying to understand how my Airport Express is actually help to expand my network, and if I should move somewhere different. Any help would be appreciated!

Current situation: my base station is an AirPort Extreme in our apartment computer room; for the internet, which is plugged into the wall. The wifi network is extended in the living room via an AirPort Express (version 7.6.4). There are on the same cabinet as the AirPort Express to Apple TV. The Airport Express has an optical cable connecting to a sound bar (which has an additional HDMI connection to the TV).

I don't really know if the AirPort Express Terminal, he does something useful. The network is set to be extended, best I can tell: Airport Extreme network Mode is "Create a wireless network", and network Mode of the AirPort Express is "extend a wireless network. But still, the wifi on my iPad and iPhone signal strength seem to fall much in the living room. Apple TV usually broadcasts music from my desktop computer (in the computer room) well enough, but if I try to play music from my computer via the Apple Express at the soundbar, the connection is terrible and fall. (Which could be a problem with wifi, or could be an aging Airport Express question, could be a cable problem or might be a sound bar problem...)

An example of what worries me: if I go to the Airport utility on my iPhone and a glance at the Airport Extreme, it has 4 Wireless, including Apple TV clients. But if I look at the AirPort Express, there sometimes a client wireless (iPhone), but never shows the Apple TV: even if the Apple TV is about 30 cm of the Airport Express. It's as if the 30cm distant to the Airport Express connection is weaker than the connection of two-rooms-distant Airport Extreme, but I am probably wrong that.

In any case, is there a way to test what speed is through the AirPort Express, compared to through the extreme? I tried to use applications like CloudCheck on my iOS devices, but those only measure the speed of my network, and it is unclear whether or not he uses the Extreme or Express.

Thanks in advance and all apologies if I used (almost inevitably) 'Express' when I should have used "Extreme", or vice versa, somewhere at the top.

One way to see the strength of the signal is the Alt (option) key while clicking on the WiFi icon in the menu bar.

But you see not directly related to the airport of arrival. Also the Airport utility does not give much information.

You can see a lot more with the free app (Appstore) called "WiFi Scanner".

The problem could be that the place you have chosen for the Airport Express can be better: it should be somewhere in halfway (in force) between the Real and where you sit with the iPad/iPhone.

  • App to determine the "Signal strength" airport

I have 1 Airport Extreme Base Station (5th generation) in my house.

I have a 2nd Airport Extreme Base Station (also 5th generation) in a separate building in my back yard.

The 2nd airport is connected to the airport 1 via an Ethernet Cable that runs through an underground conduit.

I'm sure I used to have an App on my iPhone that would check the 'intensity of the airport Signal' as opposed to the 'speed '.

Maybe it was on my old iPhone 4S & it was never transferred to the iPhone 6 Plus?

Whatever it is, I can't seem to find the app anywhere.

Does anyone have an idea on what this app can have been called or who made it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

iOS does not allow access to the wifi signal measures last I checked...

However, I can recommend the app Netspot (PC/Mac friendly) to measure the signal wireless throughout your home.

  • Unable to connect to the internet with the new computer, the signal strength is excellent

    Bought a refurbished Dell D630

from Newegg ($300 w / 30 day return) because navigation software, I run on the boat (Nobeltec 9) can only work on 32 bit laptops. I followed the instructions for activation. Windows XP Professional is preinstalled. Although, according to the icon in the right screen below, the signal strength of my wireless connection is strong ('excellent' signal, speed strength is 54.0 Mbps), I can't connect to the internet. Other laptops in the House go online without problem. What I am doing wrong? Chris

    Hi yakobi,.

    1. what happens when you try to connect to the internet?

    2. do you have security software installed on the computer?

It is possible to push the signal strength somehow? There is an amplifier of signal to the Bay, or something?

    Hello

    Laughing out loud
Why do you want to receive the signal of your neighborhood?

Unfortunately, you can boost the signal t. This is possible on the router directly and there is no improvement for the wireless network adapter.
