ThinApp'd Excel 2003 file association opens several games

Hello

We have Thinstalled (v3.0) Office 2003 & ThingReg used in the file include all types of Office 2003 files to it.

A user complains that when they use the Explorer to open Excel multiple files, it opens up several copies of Excel. This is the default behavior of a fully installed copy of Excel 2003, but each workbook is also tiled in each shell of Excel.  In Thinstall, this isn't; There is only one workbook in each Excel.

Any ideas how we can make Thinstall open several Excel workbooks in the same copy of Excel?

Thank you very much

This problem is fixed in the latest version of ThinApp, so upgrade and you should be fine.

  • 5 - file already opened it occurs without open instance of Excel.

    Questions about my particular problem have been published several times and I've studied all.  But this problem is slightly different from what I found on the forum.  This issue I'm fighting for the past two weeks and I can't seem to find a solution for this; Therefore, I turn to you in the hope that someone with more experience can point me in the right direction.

    I get the error code 5 - file already open in my application.  I know that the most common answer, a reference has not been closed, but I checked and all references seem to be closed.  The attached error code.VI is not my request, but a simple file that I created after that error code 5 came the routine I/O.  The screenshot shows Manager tack;  even if you do not see the entire list, Excel appears in it, but it shows that the particular .xls document I am trying to open is already open.  This is where my problem differs from anything else I've read.  Here is the head of scrather, I still get this error even after killing Excel using the Exec.VI system.  The instance of Excel is clearly removed from the task list, but still the error gets generated by writing in the File.VI worksheet.  The second channel indicator shows the content of the list of tasks for your viewing.  I can't find an instance open Excel anywhere, so I don't know why LV thinks that the file is already open when it is not.  There must be a reference open so he can think about it, but why does it not appear in Manager tasks?  The .zip file contains my VI as well as screws.

    Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

    Reese

    I found the problem.  The narrow reference does not work with attachments in .NET objects.  In the Invoke to AttachmentCollection node, a method called "Features" that kills the reference created with the purpose of file name there. I've also attached the VI.

  • ThinApp - I can't install Excel 2003 and Access 2003 on the same machine

    Hi all

    I have a problem and I can not solve. I have two packages of creatud:

    • Excel 2003
    • Access 2003

    When I install a package, it's the work of weel but when I try to install the second, I got this error message:

    A version identical or newer Microsoft Office Access 2003 (VMware ThinApp) is already installed

    Can you help me please ?

    Miluge

    The reason for the same GUID (MSIPackagecode, MSIUpgradecode) is the capture of the individual components of a single configuration. In your case, you could have captured Access 2003 and Excel 2003 in a single Office 2003 configuration. Thus, ThinApp share the same GUID of the original configuration.

    To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

    1. open one of the package.ini and uncomment the code MSIProductCode and MSIUpgrade (by removing ';' at the beginning)

    2. change code both MSIPackagecode and MSIUpgrade for this package. You can do it by changing just a single bit in the 32-bit key.

    For example, if your GUID looks like below,

    MSIProductCode = {2DF388F8-535F-6909-DBBA-288792F19500}

    MSIUpgradeCode = {0B400927-A236-B536-B00A-8961831A298F}
    You can change the values as below. Here I changed only the last piece

    MSIProductCode = {2DF388F8-535F-6909-DBBA-288792F19501}

    MSIUpgradeCode = {0B 400927 - A236 - B536 - B00A - 8961831A 298G}

    3. rebuild the package and test it. It should work now.

    Hi StanleyMcDowell,

    This problem occurs because of a missing or corrupted Rundll32.exe file. This problem can also be caused by a virus.

    Windows® XP file Association problems? Copyright 2003 - Doug Knox? his files work?

    It is wrong to go all that is your problem.

    I have instructions to run the Doug Knox fix as a copy/paste of my notes, I'll never have to type it once again, which means that (at least for the EXE usual file association problem), I like to use, but we don't know what your question is.  In fact, the majority of the stuff I answer here is just a copy and paste, I have fixed some things so many times...

    Here's what I have copy and paste about afflicted EXE file associations:

    Looks like your Windows file associations have to dispose. This means that XP doesn't know what to do with files by looking at the file extension (.exe for executables)., .doc for MS documents, etc.

    If you don't have it you, something done for you - most likely malware.

    Go to this site WWW by Doug Knox:

    http://www.dougknox.com/

    On the left, click on the Win XP fixes, file Association fixed and read the instructions at the top of the page.

    Download the EXE File Association Fix on your desktop, unzip the file and apply it by following the instructions at the top of the page, then to restart and test.

    Run the following scans for malware, and then fix any problems:

    Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs:

    Malwarebytes (MMFA): http://malwarebytes.org/
    SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/

    They can be uninstalled later if you wish.

  • Box "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" is grayed out out__cant change file association for any type of file

    I'm not allowed to change any combination of files for any type of file... If I try to associate a file type with a program that I can't the box is grayed out to always open the file with this program, for example, if I try to open .py (programming in python language file) with python from another program whenever I have to right click and open with python, but if I want to choose the "always use". the selected program to open this type of file"is grayed on I can not change it... pls help

    Hi VikkHckrz,

    1. you remember to make changes to the computer recently?

    Method 1:

    You can consult the following KB article and run the fix it tool available and check if you can assign file association.

    When you run an .exe on a Windows Vista-based or Windows 7 computer file, the file may start another program

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/950505

    Also check out the link:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/change-which-programs-Windows-uses-by-default

    After running the fixit so check the option is grayed out or not.

    Method 2:

    If you're still having problems, then you can try to change the settings in the registry only if it is present on your computer and check if it helps.

    a. Click Start, type regedit in the search box and press ENTER.

    b. navigate to the

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer

    (c) in the right side of the screen, double click on "NoFileAssociate".

    d. change the value of "NoFileAssociate" from 1 to 0.

    e. exit the registry editor and restart the computer and check.

    Important: The above mentioned steps show you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.

    For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, follow the steps from the link below:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/back-up-the-registry
