Thumbnail of Mac in the Finder desaturated compared to open Image

I have worked with a few photos and have a problem with what is probably something related to color profiles.

When I edit a photo and save it (same results for .psd, .jpg, and .png), the sticker I see when you search for files in the Finder on Mac looks very desaturated compared to what the image looks like when opened in Photoshop or preview.

If I send the picture to me and look at this topic on my iPhone, the same problem persists. The image seems desaturated by looking at a picture that has been received, until I opened the full image, and color is then "restored", so to speak.

The thumbnail looks like what the image looks like to in Photoshop, if I have to 'check' display > proof colors option. However, I still want pictures to look the same on any device, whether it is a miniature of the Finder or open in Preview/Photoshop.

You have any suggestions to solve this problem so that the image looks consistent across all viewings of it? Because the image seems to always watch says when it is open, I don't think there will be problems printing. However, it is certainly a problem annoying having. Thanks in advanced for any help you can provide.

When you proof in monitor RGB, you disable display color management chain temporarily. That's what it's for.

IOW, the document RGB values are not converted in your monitor profile, according to the guidelines of behavior PS normal, but are instead sent directly to your screen without any correction. That is how to manage without color applications behave, and Photoshop mimics this behavior in evidence in Monitor mode.

In other words, again, this is how you can tell if an application/environment is color managed or not.

All this assuming that you have a valid Photoshop monitor profile to use, installed on your system. A valid profile is one that accurately describes the actual response of the screen - such as one made with a good Stallion. Generic/manufacturer profiles are still few reliable.

Unfortunately the only way to do it is either off the States in the world (System Preferences > general) or if you google around you will find the terminal code to disable the States registered for a particular program.

  • Color casts in the nuances of light on open images from Lightroom CC to CC PS.

I notice strange color casts in the nuances of light on the images, I open Lightroom cc to CC PS.

My monitor is calibrated, and two color management applications on. The files are RAW of Nikon since a D810.

I get a separate green/blue dominant showing on paper background (grey seals) in the shade, and where the main light goes off around the subject. When I with the pipette sample there is a small amount of extra blue in RGB but not otherwise in other parts of the backdrop - so I think (hope), is a display problem only.

When I choose to test in sRGB, the casting, disappear when I choose to work in CMYK, it persists. I wonder if the PS may be using labour CMYK to display my image on the screen - if so, how to spend it to sRGB or is there an alternative?

OK, as long as you can trust what you see, it's good.

In all cases, the fundamental problem is the same: somewhere along the chain of (the conversion of source in display profile profile) display color management, something breaks down and does not have the right result on the screen. It is usually the profile, but it could also be the conversion of profile itself, such as calculated by the GPU.

Turn off travel, the logic of color management back to the CPU, GPU, which is much more robust and reliable.

  • files, .xmp appearing in my SD card to access RAW files in the Finder... Very weird!

    Hello

I'm having a very strange problem...  I use a 4 GB Scandisk SD and turn my RAW on a Canon Rebel 2ti photos.  I use a Macbook Pro, 2011 2.3 Ghz i5, 4 GB Ram, with Lion c. 10.7.2 and to access the RAW files of the SD through Finder.  I am side by clicking on the image file or by double clicking on them, as the PS is my default opening program for RAW files.  When I hit the 'Done' button on any of the Photoshop files, a new .xmp file appears in the Finder.  When I open it, it's a Microsoft Messenger for Mac 8 license agreement...

I installed Microsoft Office 11 and have never used Messenger.  It's not a huge deal, but it drives me crazy and it's totally weird!

    Thank you

    -Dave

There are a lot of separate, unrelated to what is happening to you in a long chain, but each step is normal and understandable.

You open the raw directly from card files in Photoshop. Photoshop will open in Camera Raw. Camera Raw preferences are set to save the changes to the XMP sidecar files. You're clicking on done, that applies by default Camera Raw processing, and that change generates an XMP file to store the new settings. That's why a XMP file appears in the same folder. On a computer, that's fine. But write back to a camera with one another camera card that the camera is not recommended. This more that is recommended is to use another, fast way to preview the raw map files without modifying (Adobe Bridge, Lightroom, Apple Aperture, Photo Mechanic, etc.), so that the left of the map intact as it should be.

If you don't want the XMP file to build, you have to do one of the following:

    • In Camera Raw preferences, change the option "save image settings in ' to 'Camera Raw database', not 'Sidecar XMP of files.
    • Instead of clicking every time, which applies to any changes, click Cancel instead, if you were to research and not editing.
    • Something other than Photoshop can preview raw files. Most of the other ways are faster than their opening in Photoshop. The recommended workflow is to use a camera download utility to browse all images on the card at a time (rather than one by one as you do), then select only the ones you want to make to your computer. Bridge (via file > get Photos from camera, not navigation), Lightroom, iPhoto and Aperture all have this ability.

License as to why double-clicking on an XMP file opens a Messenger: as you probably know, the system must understand which program should open a file with a given file name extension. Looks maybe like Adobe and Microsoft have used the XMP extension, and the installer probably associated with certain file type MS Messenger Office. So when you double-click an XMP file, Mac OS X Open Messenger. Since you have not used before Messenger, is show you "first-run" screen for Messenger, and Microsoft has put in place so that you have to click on I accept on the license agreement before using it. If you never click OK, it will always be the "first run" next time you open Messenger, if you like it or not. You can use Get Info in the Mac Finder to reassign XMP to open in another program.

You were probably expecting many things just happen to open raw on a map, but this is how it worked.

  • Images seem fine in the bridge, but way off opening in Photoshop

Don't know what I did to my system, but am now having some color management headaches. I use Photoshop and Bridge CS5.1 and for some reason, the color management is not consistent between bridge and PS... Although it was until recently. I'm on a Mac Pro Tower, with a properly calibrated screen (using an Eye One Pro) and all my other color management applications are performing very well, but I have this divergence now in Adobe where if I find an image in Bridge, it seems OK, but when I open the image in Photoshop, it is way too desaturated and slightly upward. I checked that a correct profile is embeded in each picture, but regardless of the source file. I opened images in grayscale with a gain of point or on-board gamma profile, images without embedded profile, sRGB and Adobe 1998 images appeared, and they are all open too bright. Looks like some sort of conversion must be the case, but I do not understand what it is. Color settings is set to integrated reserve and ask at the opening of the incompatibilities, but it's the same as it has always been on my system. I understand without an installation "suite," I can not access the dialog box color settings Creative Suite to synchronize color between several Adobe applications, but things have been fine for the years between my PS & the bridge, so I did something wrong. It is also interesting to note that images RAW in Bridge open the same search in the dialog of processing RAW in Photoshop, so somehow it is more related to PSD, TIFF and JPEG files.

I have used the soft of Cocktail for the maintenance of the General system on my Mac, and in the dialog box, remove the old files cahce I remember there was an option to clear cache Color Sync (with a bunch of other caches), then maybe that 'clean up' dirsupted somehow my color matching capabilities?

I've been on CS5 when I noticed this problem, so I tried to uninstall, download the slightly more recent CS5.1 and re - install, but the problem persists. Perhaps the application uninstall program won't get rid of all the hidden support files, or maybe it's something else entirely? Have trashed prefs files and restarted, still the same problem.

    Screen shot 2011-11-12 at 3.33.56 PM.jpg

Note how the image on the right is much lighter, shadows starts to look like Posterize, colors lose saturation. Left is bridge and right is Photoshop. Screenshot made on the calibrated monitor.

  • Why saving thumbnails in the Finder?

After you import photos from a memory card from my camera in the Photos, I have file copy, paste file in a specific host in the Finder folder.  Recently, the images are automatically save as "thumbnails" in a file size smaller than the originals.  I never had this problem before.  I am recording in the original format. Is there a setting that I need to check?

Do not copy and paste to save to the folder.  Using "file > export > export original unmodified...» »

Copy and paste or drag-and - d├⌐poser will save the smaller versions, not the original.  And it depends on the size of the preview, if you will see the difference. Drag and Drop will give a reasonable forecast, and copy and paste will save a thumbnail.

See this document on the export of Photos: Photos for OS x: Export the photos, videos and slideshows

If you prefer to store your photos in custom folders, you can use Image Capture to import instead of importing the first photos.  Or do you use Photos to edit photos before you drop them into folders?

Image capture can import files directly from your card.

Where the photos are normally stored on a Mac computer? In the folder images in the Finder on my Mac, I have a file named "Library.photoslibrary Photos" i.e. 28.52 gb and another folder called 'iPhoto Library.migratedphotolibrary' i.e. 4.95 GB, but then I have also on the 160 other photo and video files in the same folder. But in my Photos app, it says that I have 6 260 'elements '.

The pictures that you have imported into the photo library are, by default, stored inside the package (not file) "Library.photoslibrary Photos" in your pictures folder. The 'iPhoto Library.migratedphotolibrary' package would contain photos that have been stored in your library, iPhoto at the time of the migration.

The other files in the pictures folder are that: other files. Also, they can be in libraries if you imported and has not deleted the copies lying around in the images.

  • MAC - impossible to find "Pictures folder" / Iphoto photo library and open the Iphoto Application at all

    Hi all

I have Apple devices for a few years now, but I still find it difficult to understand the system. I want to put an end to that, so I finally registered.

I try to look at the tutorials and read the forums, but I can't find concrete answers to my situation.

First of all, in my application of Photos of my MacBook, I remove hundreds of photos and videos, then I go to recently deleted screen and I delete them all permanently.

However my disk space is the same before under 'Storage' summary when I check "to about this Mac". I restarted the Mac and waited for days, the space does not release upward.

Then I read in a forum and found the following answer:

Your photos has not deleted because they still exist in iPhoto or Aperture, whatever you use. Photos saves disk space by creating links to the already existing files in iPhoto/Aperture, rather than duplicate. This means that if you want to delete a file, you must make sure that it has deleted all.

If you can live without ever using iPhoto/Aperture once again, go to your Pictures folder and delete iPhoto Library and Aperture Library . In this way, the only copies of your photos will be those photos, and removing free space on your computer.

    The questions are the following:

    (1) after reading this, I decided to look it up in my pictures folder in the Finder to locate the iPhoto library, however it is not there on the left side, after reading the forums, I still cannot locate the iPhoto library anywhere.

    (2) in case I finally find my iPhoto library and delete it, are the images that I see now in the deleted Application Photos?

    (3) another curiosity, when I try to open IPHOTO, the following message appears:

And then after trying the 'search App Store':

I did not need to actually use my iPhoto or App Photos in particular, I do not yet fully understand the difference. I want to just my photos to be stored in ONE place and when I take hours to remove them permanently, get my rear space and do not learn, they still exist elsewhere (iPhoto library).

Also please help me understand what am I supposed to do with the iPhoto application now that gives me these error messages.

    Thank you very much!

The images folder must be manually added to the sidebar.

    Open the Finder preferences:

    • Click anywhere on the empty office to bring the Finder to the front, then go to the Finder menu in the main menu bar, open "Preferences".
Click the tab of the sidebar and add all the items to the sidebar, you want to see.

Now, open the images in the sidebar folder in the Finder.  Is your photo library in iPhoto there?

Then drag it to an external drive to make a backup copy, then delete it and empty the trash.  Accidentally delete the photo library.

    (2) in case I finally find my iPhoto library and delete it, are the images that I see now in the deleted Application Photos?

No, the photos in your library of Photos and the iPhoto library are separate files.  It was created by hard links.

Hard links are new files, which use the same entry in the table. They store the contents in blocks of same on the disks, so the entries are not duplicated, but if you remove one of the linked files, the others will remain. The storage will be released, when the last linked file has been deleted.

See this link: Six colors: the (hard) link between iPhoto and photo

  • Is it possible to search for text in an Illustrator file from an external source like the Finder (Mac)?

I'm trying to find some similar text strings on hundreds of files.  Specifically, I'm looking for dimensions.  4.50 "for example.  I want to see how many files have this dimension within them so that I can group them for production purposes.

Is there a way to search for text in Illustrator (I use CS5) files from Finder?  Or another program of research?  I use a Mac.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated and would help save me a lot of time.

Yes. While the Finder cannot find the content of .ai files, it can do it with .pdf files. If you change the extension of a .ai in .pdf file, you can use Spotlight to search by content.

This fact, combined with a file rename utility as A Better Finder Rename, you can leave temporarily rename all of your .ai files so they end up in something like 'RENAMED.pdf '. Then, once you have performed your search, find all files ending in RENAMED.pdf, to delete the word "RENAMED" and change the end for .ai again.

Of course, this isn't something you want to get into the habit of doing.
