Thunderbird finds no default email

I have Outlook 2010 as the default mail client (trust me; it is - using 'send' open Outlook, all the boxes are checked in Outlook under "default programs)
Yet, when I try to import, I get;

"There is no default mail or the current e-mail clientcannot to complete the application mail. If please run Microst Outlook and set it as your default e-mail client"

Well I have, several times and I still have the same error message.

Help, please!

your outlook has a default PST file? What version of outlook are you using? You use the compatibility mode for each program?

This happens when you click on a mailto link in your browser? You should maybe define TB as default, for example, for Firefox, see these instructions:

A similar approach applies to the IE, Chrome etc.

  • How can I find and read emails that Thunderbird has downloaded on my computer?

I read that Thunderbird puts copies of emails in the folder profiles. To find the folder, I see what looks like the names of folders, I did in Thunderbird and don't see yet any individual emails. When I try to open Thunderbird wants to make an attachment in an outgoing e-mail message. Also, now Thunderbird doesn't want to connect to the ISP and open the mails it.

Wow. All files in the local folders / Archives returned. It is very good, thanks.

I should try that for other folders not in the / Archive. Most top of the tree?

  • How can I change my default email to Comcast email?

On my laptop, I changed my Yahoo mail Internet Explorer browser and my browser Firefox in Gmail.  I believe that the default value of the operating system Outlook but I never activated it... instead, I set each browser.    Now, I would change my browsers and use my Comcast XFinity email as my email to send the link and "mailto" or e-mail link on a web page.   Google chrome looked promising at first, but I couldn't find a way.  I have a private account with Comcast and a Comcast Business at my work desk account, and use an Outlook 2007 e-mail.

I can get my e-mail through their Web site, but I could never put it as default. I use Thunderbird on my machine Win7 to catch my Cox e-mail and I can do by default.

    (Act!) requires a default e-mail.

Thank you for all your help.

Ah! You should mention the law! in your first post.
It is possible that Act! requires a fully compatible client MAPI messaging, which is not as far as I KNOW Windows Live Mail.
Thunderbird is fully compatible MAPI, as I don't know, but you might have problems to access Hotmail in it. There are / were several add-ins which would allow you to do, but they still work after the reconfiguration of September to access Hotmail I can't say.
The only other option that I know would be Outlook, because I don't know any other free MAPI compliant e-mail clients.

  • I discovered today that Thunderbird is 'read' my emails.

I see that thunderbird is scanning my emails for hot - of words as 'attachment' so that it can remind me if I have not actually attached a file. There is nothing I can think of who says or shows me that this would be takes place or otherwise I would not have opted to use this program.

I made the swtich to thunderbird to GET AWAY for my scanned... incoming or outgoing emails, it is completely unnaceptable. I wouldn't even bother to download the program much less spent the last month using the / configuration it if I had
known that Thunderbird would do that.

I don't want someone or something sweeping, watching, reading or interacting with my personal communications somehow.

I don't need software to 'think' for me. I don't need my hand that took place when sending emails.

I need to know how to stop this behavior, if not I'll need to uninstall and find a new alternative. I'll never be able to recommend Thunderbird again if this cannot be summarily and completely disabled.

Scanning is internal and private. None of the outside agencies or third parties are involved.

The feature can be disabled with: tools | Options | Composition | General

Of course Thunderbird "scans" them your messages. It can check the spelling. It can convert your text to encoded in mime format, or base-64. When displaying text. It 'scanning' for decorations.

  • Thunderbird collapsed download / sending emails (Virgin), it's the same thing for my hotmail account!

Looks intact Thunderbird that all previous emails are there two accounts! If you open tbird looks like it connects to accounts - then just stops! nothing is downloaded, I checked the account details and reinstalled but nothing has fixed the fault it worked fine 2 days ago!

Many thanks Matt, who pointed me in the right direction. It worked fine in safe mode with network so I tried to uninstall the software, including Windows updates. Zero I remembered suddenly as id recently updated Avast Anti-virus time that t/bird has stopped working.
I turned of the shields Avast and, TA DA - work!
Reduced to Avast mail shield, but is not a great situation to have one of your same disabled shields just because you're tapped icon-wise.
    So I tracked down this patch;
    http://www.Warriorforum.com/main-Internet-marketing-discussion-forum/187513-avast-blocking-your-email-heres-fix.html
Now this isn't for the latest version, but if you follow the instructions and find matching locations to your version, it should work?
It did for me and I have no aggro with the Avast icon!

    Kind regards.

  • 31.1.2 Thunderbird will not download emails, nor completely closed

Recently updated Thunderbird updated to 31.1.2. Soon, I noticed that it would not download email. With the help of "Getmail" caused his departure (green progress bar goes above all to the end), but the stalls. He did not get to ask the password (as before).

Thunderbird pick up my email on a Comcast account (or did). Incoming mail is on the Comcast server, readable, but it is not downloaded by Thunderbird.

Thunderbird, sends an e-mail more or less OK, but delayed for a long time (maybe 15 sec) before requesting the password for outgoing, whereas before, it took less than a sec to request the password.

Read the other comments, I suspect that Norton Internet Security (NIS) may be involved. I don't know if NIS also updated recently, but there are many updates of Windows 7 at the same time as the update to Thunderbird. In addition to this problem, restart the PC hangs the computer on each second test, something that so far has been very rare with Win 7 on this PC.

Running in safe MODE has none of these problems. But then, NIS does not work at that time, or a lot of Windows.

From other postings here, I disabled analysis of the NIS emails. This enabled an electronic download about three times, then it stopped working (e-mail scanning is always off, much to the annoyance of NIS).

I noticed too (using Process Explorer) that when a turn off of Thunderbird, he doesn't stop if he got there to download requests. When I restart Thunderbird, I get a new instance of the program in memory.

As another attempt at correction suggested by another assignment, I also added address e-mail accounts to the list "does not parse" in NIS, addresses similar to:

    "C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\[randomstring].default\Mail\mail.comcast - 1 .net'.

    It was no help.

    Advice would be appreciated.

You must exclude the ' C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\[randomstring].default file at least. "

Look in NIS to a setting that asks to analyze this only the documents and programs. Recent developments in the AV world see their analysis all files and only bog things down. Thunderbird opens to an index of 4 GB and NIS it scans for the next 10 minutes. (that's about how long it takes to scan a file of 4 GB)
If the machine is older, there may be pending hardware problems. Control (one night) a lot of your time is to defragment the drive. This check for errors and check the integrity of the material supports reading and writing of a large part of it.

There is not much on the page of wiki for anti virus https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird: test: Antivirus_Related_Performance_Issues but it might be worth checking your not not using the proxy for windows mentioned it.

  • Launch the default email client?

Is there a library feature to have a CVI application launch the default email client?  I can get pretty close to what I want using InetLaunchDefaultWebBrowser(), as below:

    InetLaunchDefaultWebBrowser ("mailto:[email protected]");

But it would be nice if I didn't have to launch the web browser of the user as an intermediate step.  Thank you.

You can try ShellExecute (Shell32.Lib must be included in your project CVI)
