Thunderbird unplug prior auth TLS in IMAP

I have a laptop running Thunderbird on Windows 10 38.2.0. I have an identical, as far as I know, the installation program on a stationary machine on the same LAN. The laptop still fails connection because he chooses to terminate it. A short snapshot of Wireshark goes like this:

laptop-> server SYN

computer laptop SYN, ACK <-Server

laptop-> server ACK

computer laptop ACK, PUSH <-Server

   Line: * OK [CAPABILITY IMAP4rev1 LITERAL+ ID ENABLE STARTTLS LOGINDISABLED AUTH=GSSAPI AUTH=DIGEST-MD5 AUTH=CRAM-MD5 SASL-IR] imap.fahller.se Cyrus IMAP v2.4.17 server ready\r\n

laptop-> receipt, press Server
Line: 1 STARTTLS\r\n

laptop ACK <-Server

computer laptop ACK, PUSH <-Server
Line: 1 OK begin TLS negotiation now\r\n

laptop-> ACK, authenticates END server # here the work stoppage, but the laptop ends the session instead

computer laptop ACK, PUSH <-Server
Line: No. 1, Starttls negotiation failed\r\n

laptop ACK, END <-Server

laptop-> ACK, RST-> server

I'm at my wits end with this. I have no idea as to how to continue or even where the error can be. Windows is not my OS of choice, so I am a little confused about its configurations.

The capture is attached.

Well, for what it's worth it works now.

Given that the laptop was very new and rarely used at all, there was little loss by going back to the whole installation windows 10 and reinstall programs lost. Thunderbird has worked on the first attempt.

What was the problem will be not discovered, I guess.

Thank you for your attention and good questions.

It seems that the sync IMAP of Thunderbird (31.1.2) is somewhat in conflict with CalDAV Lightning (3.3.1) synchronization, in my case with ownCloud (5.0.17) server.

Whenever I'm * online * AND the lightning is * activated * Thunderbird freezes.

Seen lightning * disabled *, sync IMAP works just fine as it should - and has done in the past.

Be * off *, lightning and even just CalDAV synchronization to work very well.

It seems to be the combination of the two that makes it ununsable.

I run THAT TLS secure IMAP on port 143 and self-signed HTTPS on port 443, with the same certificate.

I was able to reproduce this on a second housing with a nearly identical configuration.

  • Having multiple computers using the server POPS via Thunderbird. A new computer has IMAP server and cannot send or receive emails via Thunderbird. Help

With the help of Mozilla Thunderbird - multiple computers use the POP server, but a new computer uses the IMAP server. Mail or back does not work
Can we change the IMAP POP server to make it easier. All my other computers POP and mail is perfect.
    What can I do?

First question is your email provider does support IMAP protocol?
If this isn't the case, that is why it does not work.
If they do, IMAP is a protocol much better use to check email from multiple devices.
There are a lot of good tutorials on the differences between POP and IMAP if you can do your own research on this.

You don't change an account from one protocol to another.
You delete the account and add back with the correct protocol.
Thunderbird has a tendency to select IMAP as a default value. You need to stop right there and make the POP changes if that's what you want or need.

  • Thunderbird can recover emails on a private server?

I have a private server, dovecot, set up and I am trying to configure Thunderbird to retrieve her email via IMAP on port 143. I intend to set up TLS encryption at some point, but for now I just try to get the two to talk. I don't have a domain name, so when you create account I enter the IP address of the server to tuberculosis [TB02.png]. This audit has never ends by the way no matter what I put in the password field, but I don't know if TB is in contact with the ISP database mentioned here (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/automatic-account-configuration) or if it's the mark actually provided IP address. Now I can bypass this check by clicking on the Advanced Settings button (once I manually configured the SMTP options), but when TB tries to retrieve the mail from the server, I get the "Failed to connect to server" notification [TB03.png] as if dovecot is not yet running.
I checked that server-side works by using an email client different (Mail Simple extension for Firefox) and the dovecot logs indicate that he received these authentication attempts (and the server will listen on port 143, so that rules out TB and simple mail using different protocols or ports). The server also running exim4 to handle SMTP connections, but he only listen on the loopback interface, so TB won't be able to use it as outgoing server. I do not know if that plays a role in the creation of an account or not, so I thought I should mention.
So my main problem is that I don't know what Thunderbird did and I could not find any documentation that deals with private messaging servers, everything I found said something to the effect of "just put your email address and it will take care of everything for you!
Thanks to anyone who decides to try to offer some insight.

Why the main points on the domain name server?

Your user name must the full email address including the domain? I'm not familiar with loft.

  • Thunderbird, re - download messages from gmail years!

I got the email sending problems (see other thread) with gmail/thunderbird 38.4.0, and I must have changed something in my get parameters, because now Thunderbird is re - download all messages from July 2013. I use POP because I like to be able to delete my Gmail server messages when they are downloaded to Thunderbird. I activated the disabled IMAP and POP. I don't know where these messages come from because when I connect to gmail in my browser, it doesn't seem to be any messages it except in my "sent" folder. I am that they were removing all this time after downloaded Thunderbird, but apparently not because they are all coming in again. I'm getting flooded by mail now. Funny is that this isn't to attract new messages in my Inbox when they arrive in gmail in the browser (or maybe I'll just be for them after she did it download 2013, 2014 and 2015!) Can anyone help?

I thought about it. The messages were apparently only deleted from the Inbox of Google and always resided in other folders in GMail. I changed something in my settings in Gmail and Thunderbird which caused everything to be downloaded by Thunderbird. I saw what was happening and stopped. I closed Thunderbird before it could do more, then entered with GMail and all that had been removed from the folder all deleted messages. So I ran Thunderbird and everything was fine, after that I cleaned up the previous duplicate messages. Gmail is trying to cling to your email, so it can be analysed for commercial purposes!

  • Thunderbird 38.3 won't open Inbox

Updated Thunderbird to 38.3 38.2. Thunderbird 38.3 does not open Inbox for accounts that have been in Thunderbird 38.2. Uninstalled Thunderbird 38.3 and re-downloaded and reinstalled from the Web of Thunderbird site. Recreated email accounts (imap of Gmail and Hotmail). Thunderbird 38.3 still will not open them.

uninstalled and reinstalled Thunderbird 38.3 38.2 Thunderbird from the ftp site. Recreated e-mail accounts, Thunderbird 38.2 opened. Received message that Lightning 4.0.3 was not compatible with Thunderbird 38.2, re-uploaded 4.0.2.1 Lightning and installed it.

Through out all this Thunderbird or Windows gave me error messages. Just Thunderbird 38.3 would not open any mail account. He created and I could see the account settings, but I couldn't see the emails, contacts, calendar info, it's like Thunderbird 38.3 was open, but nothing doing. Currently have 38.2 Thunderbird running, without loss of data and updates turned off.

  • My server type must be an IMAP e-mail server, but both the standard Wizard and custom wizard to make a type of pop server. Nothing works.

The first time I tried to install thunderbird, he automatically gave me an IMAP setting. I had the opportunity to change setting of pop. I couldn't do that. It was just the first time. Then I went into the settings of the server and passed under the name of the POP server to imap.fsu.edu. However, the words above the area, who say "Server Type: POP ' do not change. When I try to open Thunderbird I get the error message "error on POP3.

I deleted Thunderbird 3 times and reinstalled three times, twice by using the custom setting. I have never yet to choose IMAP instead of POP, and every time I get the message when the Thunderbird open POP3 error was given.

If the installation wizard does not get the account of the installation of work settings and do a manual install.

  • Problem adding second e-mail in Thunderbird

I have two emails, both from Gmail. I was able to add one successfully but when I try to add the other one can't. I get the message 'user name' or invalid password. I know that I entered both correctly, as I went to Gmail and connected with success here.

Thunderbird is already configured as an IMAP and as I said I have a Gmail address that is successfully installed.

    Can anyone help?

    Tisha

@Matt I found the only solution that seems to work so far. Which has been turn off a feature (sorry can't think what it name) which makes it safer. I did this because I have received emails from Gmail, saying they were blocking access to the account as Thunderbird was not a "secure messaging software. Why I had this problem only with my second email is beyond me. At least it is now resolved. Thanks for your quick response and willingness to help.

  • I'm able to sync Thunderbird with my gmail. So if I delete an email from Thunderbird, it removes them turn off all devices (Gmail Web site, telephone, etc.).

My Gmail has IMAP enabled automatically, and I followed the steps presented by one of the help topics, even if this does not work. What I am doing wrong? I really want to be able to sync everything that's going to be a lot more convenient.

"POP server". There you go. Make sure that IMAP is enabled on this account on the Gmail settings web page. Set up the account in Thunderbird again but this time select IMAP.

When you have this second account upwards and running in Thunderbird, you can move messages you want to keep FRO the POP account on the IMAP account, then delete the pop account.

  • FastMail is sent to the folder does not appear on IMAP

Hi, I have just install Thunderbird to connect to Fastmail via IMAP. The Inbox syncs, but TB does not recognize records sent from Fastmail. If I send a message from tuberculosis, it creates its own sent folder which then appears in Fastmail, giving actually this last two files sent (one for messages sent from the web interface, one for tuberculosis). I tried to change the "directory of the IMAP server" to "INBOX", (by default, it is empty), but it does not seem to have an effect.

right-click on the account in the folders tree.
    Choose Subscribe.
Make sure that the folder sent to fastmail is subscribed.
Now, go back to the position given by Fabian and champagne again for the right folder.

The problem you describe is almost always a matter of Linguistics. The server calls it "sent mail" and calls of "sent" Thunderbird, or in the case of Thunderbird version of the localized server can be configured in another language to Thunderbird. However, once the folder is to subscribe and manually corrected everything should be good.

  • Very close to the dumping of Mozilla Thunderbird. The slow is simply not worth the hassle and support sucks.

I have been using Mozilla Thunderbird for many years. It has always been a good system. Now, I get so when I hit delete, it takes a minute or two to delete the e-mail message. I tried to follow all the instructions on the help system and have turned off Mcafee whenever I try to read my mail.

I'm not an expert in computers, but can generally follow directions well enough. The help of this system Mazilla fact dependent on questions of a group doesn't make any easier these problems. I see the same questions asked by many people without clear answers to why this is happening.

Unfortunately, if this problem is not resolved soon, I'll have to drop Mozilla for another system...

Saying suck it support is not exactly being polite towards those which expect free aid. I prefer to think that you are just frustrated and the offensive remark was not intentional.

It would be useful that you could provide some information about your situation, etc.

You have McAfee and you say stop reading emails, do not turn off completely, just stop it analyzes e-mails. This will mean that you don't have to keep it work and stop.
Here are the instructions to do this.

Please provide the following information, so that it is possible to get an understanding of your situation and the installation program:

    • What operating system do you use?
    • What version of Thunderbird?
    • It's an IMAP or POP e-mail account, that has the problem?
    • If IMAP - is it a gmail account?
    • You have one or more e-mail accounts?
    • How frequently you compact your folders?
    • When did finally empty and compact your deleted folder?
    • You have several folders?
    re: the Inbox

    • This file used as an Inbox for mail entering with only a few mails is inside or used to store a load of emails?
    • Have you set up archiving Options to archive by month and keep the folder structure?
    • Do you have emails Archive more of for example: one month, two months?

Please answer the queries above, if the forum includes your current situation.

  • Is it possible to retrieve messages after they have been moved to local folders to an IMAP account that deleted them once they have been moved?

I tried to get Thunderbird to access my Hotmail via IMAP instead of POP account, so I moved all my messages from the account in "Local Folders", then I deleted the POP account and created the new IMAP one. After that I started to move messages on the IMAP account, but I came across some problems when the server wouldn't want to accept all messages I download and it stops.

So, I decided to everything from "Local Folders" on the account IMAP while Thunderbird has been disconnected, once finished, I went online and he decided instead to download the messages newly found in my IMAP account on the server, delete messages. I guess because the real online account contained no file so he wanted to synchronize and make my folder in offline mode also contain no files.

In short, never try it. It's a disaster. And I know I should have done a back up before you try this, it's just that Thunderbird is generally very reliable, it never occurred to me.
I still have the files MBOX and MSF, but even if they contain information, without extension can retrieve it.

    Could someone, please, help me?

I have two computers and a smart phone, I use sometimes to check my email. I had messages download and see on a device and not on the other. I thought since it's an account they go on all messaging devices.

Depends on the question of if you have set up your Thunderbird e-mail accounts to use IMAP or pop.

If POP, then Thunderbird can only access and download from the server Inbox. It is normal to remove the copy from the server after download.
So this means that if you access this account on another device or via webmail address, then the e-mails that you have downloaded will not be on the server, so you don't see them.

Stop this is to make sure the email POP account to leave a copy on the server after download.
Tools > account settings > server for pop e-mail account settings
    or
Right-click on mailaccount pop in the folders pane, and then select "settings".
then select "Server settings" for the pop email account.
Select 'leave messages on the server.
    Click OK

Please note that all emails you send will be only stored in Thunderbird, so you can not see the server. E-mails deleted in thunderbird has no effect on the e-mails still on the server, except if you have enabled this option in the server settings.

Alternative, is to create email IMAP accounts.
IMAP e-mail accounts show a remote view of the files on the server.
you subscribe to view these folders.
If you delete an email in a Thunderbird imap email account, then it is deleted on the server that the files are indeed, a same. Thus, other devices to connect to the server will not see email which has been deleted.

  • How to restore or at least analyze emails from account deleted when the server no longer exists

I have emails from an email address @domain.com that are saved in my Local folder. I would like to follow the instructions to restore this account here: _ http://kb.mozillazine.org/Thunderbird: _FAQs_:_Recover_Deleted_Account

The problem is that the server that hosted email no longer exists, so I can't add it back again. Is it possible to import in Thunderbird yet, so I can always analyze them? Or someone has a suggestion on how I can access these emails in a simple way? I need to be able to search through them, as I already do in Thunderbird.

In general, in IMAP, all your messages are stored on the server and Thunderbird downloads the temporary copies in order to accelerate the search and navigation. Since there are parameters for the amount of content in the message to download, or only the headers, there is no guarantee that you will have messages in their entirety.

For future use, if you have an IMAP account that is connected and the desire to preserve the independent messages from the server, you must copy them to a place outside of the IMAP account folders connected, such as local folders.

  • Error message about the folder drafts ("mailbox does not exist")

Hi, after having added a third account to my office of Thunderbird, I receive the Error Message after 30 seconds or more:
"the current operation on the drafts did not. "the e-mail server for account [email protected] replied: there is no mailbox.
Can anyone help solve this? Sending and receiving mail seem to work perfectly.
    Thank you very much
    Eli

The current path to store such projects as configured in Thunderbird may not correspond to your IMAP server folders.

Check first if you subscribe or if the folder exists on the server, then check if it is correctly configured in your account settings, as shown in the attached two screenshots.

There are several people who might want to use Thunderbird on a work computer, but I don't like how all the e-mail files are open to the public view. It looks like anyone can see the emails without having to log on the account of others.
