Time Capsule as a secondary backup location

I have six computers on a network, each with its own hard drive dedicated to the Time Machine backups. Could I, on each of my computers, precise Time Capsule as a secondary backup in addition to the hard disk location dedicated to the computer?

Yes, you can.  But 6 Macs backup on a single Capsule of time begins to push the limits.  For a secondary backup, you should be OK.

  • Time Capsule - problem with the backup

    Hej!

I get the message "an error occurred during the file copying. The problem may be temporary. If the problem persists, use disk utility to repair the backup drive. "A bit of research on Google, it seems that to restart the time capsule actually perform a repair disk. So I did it. The problem comes back, and sometimes she disappears, if I restart the backup, which confuses me. Is it possible to view the error logs and check what is the problem? I'm afraid that the backup drive may have hardware problems. I bought time capsule airport little for more than a year (in Sweden).

Someone else has encountered this, and what was your solution?

    Johannes

Most of the questions is network... and the error messages may not clearly identify between a network and disk problem problem.

I bought time capsule airport little for more than a year (in Sweden).

How long this problem has been going since then?

In Europe the warranty period may be 2 or 3 years by law.

Certainly if you have AppleCare on a supported product... computer, ipad, or apple TV the TC will be replaced by Apple under warranty. Just explain your problem to them.

If you do not have access to the warranty or replacement.

I highly recommend that you check your drive TC if there is nothing on what you need... then do a single pass low level format. It's utilitarian airport disk tab Archive is here... then the clear operation.

    Erase use the single-pass option.

It is a low level disk format. (Don't bother with 7 and never even dream of using 35).

If the problem persists when you restart the backup I suspect network problems... or the TC is a failure... mine (a 3rd in 3 years) comes from the same way... I pulled the drive and replaced it with a better brand than the basic model known problem seagate used Apple.

  • The fastest way to remove a sparsebundle on a Time Capsule with two top backups

I have a time Capsule 2 TB that I currently use to save an iMac and a MacBook Pro.  I recently bought a new iMac and I decided to go back on this new computer. I moved all the files I need and installed all the apps that I used on the other.  After spending a day and a half, make a backup of the sparsebundle on my old iMac (just in case), I am now ready to get rid of this sparsebundle out of my Time Capsule, so I can start back up my new iMac to it.

Because I also backup my MBP on it, erasing everything simply is not an option at this point. I need to be able to just remove this a sparsebundle, which, of course, must be huge... I think that it is about 890 concerts at this stage.

I have been looking online for the best way to delete the sparsebundle, but don't know which method is the best and most of the answers are from 2011 or 2012, so I want to be sure there is not something new, I should try.

Here are the options that I've seen, and I hope someone can point me to one that suits, or give me another suggestion. If it happens that the best, it takes days to complete, so be it, but it would be good to know that the time goes in.

    1. Change the extension of the sparsebundle and then delete this file. This seems little risk to me, but maybe I'm overthinking it. One person said they changed from iMacbackup.sparsebundle to just iMacbackup.s and was able to remove it.  It would actually remove faster? Do not change the size, so I don't know how it works.
    2. Mount the sparsebundle by using the IP address and then delete the sparsebundle like that. This was part of a post that said in fact the best way to remove first had to access it through Windows Explorer, and then delete it. This isn't an option for me, so in the comments I post, I saw someone say to connect via SMB and delete this one. Someone said he worked within a minute for them, but I see not a lot more answers.
    3. Display content of the sparsebundle, then delete the contents of the folder-Band 5, 000-8, 000 at the same time. I just watched showed a guy do that but it took something like 4 days to remove them, and he had to reload between each 5 000 videos a YouTube it deleted. Currently I have about 102 000 items in my folder of bands, so if it takes a day to remove 10,000 of them (according to, I'm looking for both ridiculously long to remove these.)

Alternative suggestions that someone has more would be welcome.  I just want to be able to get this old one deleted and start backup to my new one, without losing my MBP backup.

I also found this link, which speaks by using Terminal Server.

In Time Machine preferences, I have two 2 options for a backup drive, both called 'Data' but showing different icons:

    and

I am pretty confused at this point and don't know what to do.  I searched a lot of things, but can not find someone with this issue says .

    Any help would be appreciated!

You have massively changed the network.

So it is little surprise that TM has lost connection. TB is no longer in the same place.

-Time Machine wants to do a backup complete of any HD on MBP; shows some previous backups, but shows used the Time Capsule disk storage:

That's okay... because of the new configuration TM cannot detect the old backup, until she starts again. Apple never indicate anywhere... but TM can never find older backups on a network when they moved the place. It is a fact of how works the beastie TM.

What you need to do, is to be very brave. Feeling brave?

Select the data... the dancing men would probably be best. (Which means a network of road... wireless icon means a disk on the wireless... and will most likely also work... After all, it's the same thing).

And TM will say that it will start a new backup in 120 sec (I never understood the timed fuse 2 min. time to clear the building?)

When TM begins... She will discover that the old backup is always there... Check for fingerprints... I own it... Check it against your current hard drive... If all extracted TM will then make an incremental backup... You are reconnected to your backups... woo hoo!

In case of failure... you will have a new backup and an old... It's also very well... wait a few weeks or a month or two... and then you can remove the old backup of the TC. Or store it on a USB key if the atmosphere is for old things.

Apple documentation for most things is now seriously lacking. All the technical aspects are hidden from the great unwashed.

  • How to encrypt time capsule after being 1st backups have clear?

    Hello world

If I backed up my data on my Time Capsule form decrypted and changed my mind, can I I now encrypt the Capsule of time without having to format it and do it again?

    Thank you very much!

If you are still using the OS X Mavericks (10.9.x)... as you enter... so you can have Time existing Machine to encrypt the backup file that you already have. It will take a long time... probably 3 or 4 times longer that it took to execute the first backup without encryption. Once this has been done, all future backups will be encrypted.

However, if you have a newer OS on your Mac as El Capitan and Yosemite, Apple removed the ability to encrypt existing backups in these systems, so you will need to start over, wipe the drive, and then choose the option to encrypt your backups, then rerun the first backup with active encryption.

If possible, connect your Mac directly on the Time Capsule using a wired Ethernet connection... (and turn off the WiFi on Mac)... for the first backup help to speed things along. Even in this case, you should expect the first backup to take at least 2 - 3 times longer than a backup not encrypted.

  • How to make a Time Capsule external hard drive backup

Hi I just got a time capsule airport which I backed up on my iMac.  I have an external seagate HD plugged on my mac via USB.  I have a catalog photo large library and adobe lightroom on the external hard drive I use and change almost every day. These files are NOT stored on my computer because they take so much space that I would like to keep the separate external disk.  It was my hope to keep a backup on my time capsule on a regular basis with my backup of the iMac.  I have time machine configured to backup from my mac, and then under options, I have seen the drive seagate showing as excluded.  I removed excluded readers and click Save. However I don't think during backup that he actually saved these files because the capsule still shows as have plenty of available disk space.  When I opened the options again shows seagate always excluded.

so question is can I save the iMac and the external hard drive at the same time?

If this is not the case, what is the work around for this thing saved?

    thnx

The Seagate disk should be in Mac Mac OS extended (journaled)format, also known as HFS +, if you want that Time Machine to back up your Mac.

Do you know how the Seagate drive is formatted?  If it isn't... . Right click on on the icon of the Seagate drive which is mounted on the Mac desktop, and then click read the information. In the window that appears, look for the Format.

What do you see when you check the Format?

  • Can I use the Time Capsule wireless for multiple computers without using it as a router?

I am looking for an external backup for 2 computers drive.  I have a desktop iMac and MacBook Air.  I like the idea of being able to back up my MacBook Air wireless, but I need to make sure that it will work the way I need to.

I already have a wireless router that works well for me, I don't need the time Capsule to act as a router. I'm just needing a wireless backup drive.  So, the question is, can I use the only time Capsule as a storage device for backup of wifi or do I also have to use it as a wifi router?  My fear is that the router service is not as good as the router, I currently have.  I live in a big House of 2 floors, making it very difficult to receive a strong signal throughout the House.

can I use time Capsule only as a backup wireless storage device or do I also have to use it as a wifi router?

Time Capsule need to connect to your router/modem existing using wired Ethernet wired, permanent.

If you plan to use the time Capsule to back up your Mac with the help of the application Time Machine on every Mac, the Mac will have to save on the wireless signal Time Capsule for the process to be officially supported by Apple.

While it is possible to turn off wireless on the Time Capsule and try to save it to your existing wireless network... and it pourrait work... but there will be no Apple support backup problems... so it would be a good idea to plan to use Time Capsule wireless backup purposes.

  • Suddenly, MB Pro can not save on Time Capsule

A month earlier, out of nowhere, I get a time error message:

    "Backup failed."

Time Machine could not save in "XXX Time Capsule."   Then in details:

"Time Machine could not complete the backup for"XXX Time Capsule".

"The backup disk image" / Volumes/XXX of MacBook Pro (4) .sparsebundle of the Time Capsule/XXX ' could not be found (error (null)) "." "

Have restarted the T.C. and just updated the firmware - no help.  OS X version is up-to-date.  Nothing has changed I know. Full to 98% of the time Machine, but it has been like this for a long time and just deletes old entries, as it should.

Any thoughts?  I was able to empty the contents of the time capsule, I suppose, if being near capacity could be the culprit.   ???

    Thank you!

Being near capacity should not be the problem, but of course, everything is possible.

If Time Machine backups are essential for you, I suggest that you check first of all in existing ones to another drive. Then erase the time Capsule drive and start a new Time Machine backup.

You can do both archive and delete measures directly from AirPort Utility, as follows:

    • Run the AirPort Utility and then select the time Capsule.
    • Select Edit.
    • Select the disks tab.
    • For the process of archiving, select Archive disk...
    • For the delete process, select erase disc...

I have my MacPro & iMac saved to Time Machine. It works very well to find a lost file.

BUT, when HD 2 TB recently completed, he ceased to backup and I had to wipe the HD & start over.

I thought that Time Machine would sequentially remove oldest files, once that it filled to the top.

I have check the disk (Option - Menu TM) & it checked OK

Is there a setting that I missed?

    Thanks for the tips!

    ... John

Time Machine has no problem deleting old incremental files to make room for the new files in incremental backups.  The keyword here is 'extra', which are small files that take up very little space.

But... and this is a big BUT... If the Time Capsule disk is full, and you try to save a large amount of data that normal... What can happen if you have recently updated the operating system on your Mac, or added large files from media or other types of files for the beams of Mac... then Time Machine, because it can not remove enough files to make room for the new more normal backup.

In this case, you have a few options:

    (1) add an another Time Capsule and start new backups to go

    (2) add a USB key to the current time Capsule and start new backups to go

    (3) clear the Time Capsule disk and start over again with new backups

If you don't mind clear on the Time Capsule backup history and start all over again, it is of course the most economical way to continue. If you want to keep your old backups intact, then go with option 1 or 2.

  • Full time Capsule

TIme Capsule 2 TB is almost full and doesen't work properly.

Is there a way to reset?

Not sure what you mean by "reset" here.

When the Capsule is full and cannot continue the backups, you have 3 options to base... in order of most expensive on toward the bottom.

    (1) add an another Time Capsule and start backups to go.

    (2) add a USB key to the Time Capsule, copy the backups on the Time Capsule on the USB key, then erase the time Capsule and start new backups.

    (3) clear the Time Capsule disk and start over. Of course, the disadvantage of this method is that you lose your old backups.

Alternatively, "reset" means something else. If so, please provide details.

  • Apple airport time capsule 2 TB HD Wireless with encryption?

Hello I know that the time capsule is intended for backup and knows he can have external hard drive but I heard that it can be a wireless file server.

Now, my questions are: 1: what methods are there for this (without hard drive)

2: is there encryption or some form of protection (password)

3: is it a good idea for home storage or too far and sending files (I have things I want to store)

4: and as an internet router it'll work itself flawless

    Thank you

1: what methods are there for this (without external hard drive)

The TC may function as a file server... It is not designed for it... but it can.

You don't need any special method... He is, by nature, a network file server.

2: is there encryption or some form of protection (password)

There is password protection of disk... you can also use several names of users and passwords, but if use you it you have to use an empty disk because it completely blocks one user of another.

Note... There is no protection if someone has physical access to the TC and press reset... any protection blows away at this moment.

If you want encryption then using an encrypted DMG file. How to create an image (encrypted) disc protected by password - Apple support

3: is it a good idea for home storage or too far and sending files (I have things I want to store)

Good idea... Hmmm. compared to what? I have a synology NAS, and it's at least 2 x if it is 3 x faster... It is reliable, it is able to repair, it can save itself,

TC is not designed for this... it can not save... so all files you use on TC will must be backed up manually or by using a tool such as the CCC... TM doesn't help... It can use the TC as a target, but not source.

However, it is an inexpensive way in wireless storage... If you're careful.

You can remotely using the MWAC... only from a Mac so.

4: and as an internet router it'll work itself flawless

It's the home router of quality... for some people, it's fine... for others it will not work... apple not allowing complex configurations... who can predict how to find you. As a network, router, there are better support out there. However if you already have an it could work ok.

  • Time Capsule backup disabled on Bridge mode

    Hi all...

I have a 3rd generation (A1355) Time Capsule and I connected on a D-Link DSL-2520U router which is connected to my DSL via PPPoE internet connection. In order to get my setup working, I had to put the network on the bridge mode settings. Since my backup Time Capsule does not work, and when I try to manually force the backup system, it is said: "the backup drive is not found. Make sure that the backup disk is connected, or select a different backup disk. »

When I try to put the time Capsule to DHCP, it is said: "the DHCP range you have entered conflicts with your base station WAN IP address."

Now, what can I do to get it working again?

Bridge mode is the correct setting of the time Capsule, but you changed the 'path' that has been using Time Machine to locate your Time Capsule on the network, so that it can not find the time Capsule.

(Gear on the dock icon)... open Mac system preferences

    Open Time Machine

    Click Add or remove disks

Under the backup disks, click to select the current backup drive

Click on remove the disc at the bottom right of the window

    Close the windows

    Restart the Mac.

Then, go to time Machine again as above, click select disk and select the backup drive that you want to use, and then click on using the drive.

Wait a few minutes for a backup start, or if you do not want to wait... click on the "clock" icon Time machine at the top of the screen of the Mac, and then click Backup now.

  • Time Capsule will only restore the disc that it took the backup from?

I use Time capsule to back up a stick of memory, among other things. I would like to do a restore on a different memory stick. Time capsule doesn't want to do this?

It will do so if you use the Restore To option in the interface of Time Machine, and then navigate to the location where you want the data to be restored.

    Open Time Machine

Go in time to a date you choose... a recent backup date or otherwise

    Locate the file you want

Click the file or folder to select

Click the "gear" above the window

    Click on restore to...

Navigate to the location where you want the data to restore

Click on restore... or it might say choose
