Time Machine impossible to restore backups

Hello

I had to restore my entire machine (because I am stupid) and when I went to access my Visual readers of Parallels, missing 2. It seems they were always absent (I went back I can. I'm not saying TM to ignore readers, and I see no reason why they have not been backed up. Any ideas. I was so very loud already.

  • is it better to restore from time machine or from a backup cloned

I just got my replaced Mac hard drive. Of course, I did a backup first - two, in fact. One is my Time Machine stored on my Time Capsule backup. The other is a backup cloned, made with SuperDuper!, stored on an external hard drive.

Now, the mac is back with it's all new hard drive, and I was wondering: is there an advantage to restoring from a backup vs the other? Is "Restore from Time Machine backup" a better option than with SuperDuper! to restore the clone bootable? Or vice versa? Or does really make any difference at all?

Additional info: the TM and Clone were both looking at the same time (give or take a few minutes) and the Mac, at the time where it has been saved, ran the Mavericks. I also asked Apple to install the Mavericks on the new hard drive instead of El Capitan.

    Display?

    Thanks in advance.

It really makes no difference that you are restoring from.

I am running OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 Can anyone who thinks that the reason for what I fear not having a reliable backup. The problem with the new hard drive external or is - a problem with EL Capitan?

    Hello Arnaud,.

Thank you for using communities of Apple Support. It is my understanding that Time Machine was not back up as expected. I certainly understand how it is important to be able to back up your content. I'm happy to help you.

There are several factors that could influence the automatic backup. Please follow the steps in the link below to fix this problem:

If you cannot back up or restore your Mac with Time Machine

In addition to these measures, hourly backups could be affected by your sleep Macs and power Nap settings, depending on which Mac you use. To ensure that your hourly backups are finished, set your Mac sleep to a longer period time. For testing purposes, try to set the duration of sleep at least 1 hour. You can do this in system preferences > energy saver.

In addition, if you use a portable Mac, make sure that it is connected to power during the tests to see if hourly backups work. See the link below to view information on how Power Nap works and how it can affect Time Machine.

How Power Nap works on your Mac

Keep in mind, that Time Machine backs up only files that have changed since the last backup.

    Have an amazing day!

  • Time Machine - how to restore the files it deleted?

I used Time Machine to restore your desktop earlier. In doing so he erased the current Office - which I had not saved. I know, I know. But is it possible to get the most recent desktop and its folders and files again?

You cannot recover the files that you do not backup.

NEVER start a major change to a computer without backup in progress...

In any case... you are where you are now...

    How did you restore?

If you have used assistant migration did you use the same usernames... If so, the old office went and wiped on... but if get it has used an audit of different username for users on the computer and the connection with the old name. Also, make sure that the name is not incremented. Recover can operate with two users with the same name... the existing and recovered... so it can rename one... for example, aickind (1) can exist with aickind (regardless of your user name on the computer).

In the Finder, see the list of users. Open them directly from the main boot disk... not your usual list of Finder.

If you use the wizard to configure the recovery partition... As far as I know you have wiped the computer from the recovery date... After all, it's what you asked to do.

  • Weird Time Machine question after restoration

    Hi all

First post here so go easy on me

I'll try and make this as brief as possible.

I've been running an iMac 27 "2010 end (still running Lion 10.7.5, but it is stable so I have not found the need to modernize) and NAS from Synology DS212j with TB 2 * 3 disks for the last 3 years. I've set up time service Machine through DSM on the Synology with a quota of 1 200 GB for my iMac which worked perfectly while all the time, during which I restored the weird file without problem.

Recently, for a number of reasons, I felt the need to update the OS of El Capitan to provide specific features that only there, so I made sure that my last backup was not serious and went through the upgrade process. It took a while but seems fine, but in the end, I became artifacts of the screen during the exchange between the office computers and for the worse, completely locked Mail machine as soon as you have clicked on an email. A lot of research on Google and all the patches applied but no joy, I decided to restore Lion and watch a clean install of El Crappo thereafter.

At through the process of full restoration without problem and he has restored from the DS212j without a single question (took about 14 hours but again, it worked) and my Mac was back as if nothing ever happened. Happy days!

Shortly after that, although the problem started with Time Machine backups do not tell me that there is not enough space on the destination to save my machine...

    1. I look into my quota on the NAS (the bit you set to ensure that backups are not the entire disk) and it tells me that there are 820 used GB which I guess is my backups Time Machine original that nothing should have changed on the NAS.

    2. I don't seem to be able to see the Time Capsule shared queue Station disk even after display in shared folders, it should he appear?

    3. I unhid it and he could ride through cmd & k and using smb / / nom_lecteur/Time Capsule so I can now see the volume in the Finder.

    4. I can see there are 2 * sparsebundle files, one for my iMac and the other for Macbook Air my wife. The file for mine displays a last updated date/time of a few minutes ago, but no size of file. The woman shows well, last time/date and file size (he stayed very well throughout this btw).

    5. when I enter Time Machine on the iMac all my historical incremental backups have disappeared and the only backup who shows also available is the date to which I restored from, nothing before and obviously nothing after because there is no space.

I have not a clue what going on here, but it seems to me like it after restoring my sparsebundle file (which is always on the NAS and must be intact) is there, but for some reason the iMac cannot see/index / register or see one of the backups that are contained in.

Apple support tried to help but actually said that they don't support anything other than an official time Capsule and Synology must implement the Time Machine in a different way because he could not find the sparesebundle file, only the tf volume content when it is mounted by trying to start the backup.  From what I read and checked the forums of Synology and the sheets, they don't do anything outside the norm with regard to the Time Machine application, it's literally just a network volume that stores the sparesebundle in the same Apple so designed, then why on Earth after restoring my iMac do not see the content of this sparsebundle file , and why it consumes disk space?

So, what I'm looking for help, is this (or questions):

    A. How do I look inside the time Capsule (this is what I call the Time Machine shared disk) to see how many files is there and if there is a GB 820 that contains all the data from my legacy?

    B. someone at - it an idea how the iMac see and recognize the original file should be here?

    C. If I were to remove the rare bundle that I peut see, will that potentially be old and will be that free space that is held open and allow me to perform a full backup from scratch?

    D. If C is not the original file remains hidden, no idea how I can find...?

    E. do I have other options that you can think of...?

Sorry, that was supposed to be brief, but I wanted to make sure I had all the info there to allow people to understand what has happened and what I did to try to resolve so far.

    Thanks in advance

    See you soon

  • Time Machine preferences shows no backup

Very strange problem. I have not saved for a while, and when I attach my drive of Thunderbolt containing backups and go into the preferences panel, it shows no dates more old/last backup.

However, if I run the Time Machine application, I get the full history of the backups and can browse and restore files as usual.

If I turn YOU backup automatic, he said his will perform a first backup

First question is: if I let it, that, is it the problem or composed it?

How can second question, I get the preferences panel to see the history?

    Thanks in advance

This simple procedure will erase your settings of the time Machine, including the list of excluded items. The backups themselves will not be affected. If you have a long exclusion list that cannot be easily re-created, you may prefer a procedure more complicated that maintains the list. In this case, ask for instructions. If not, see below.

Please triple - click anywhere in the line below on this page to select:

    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist

Right-click or Ctrl-click on the highlighted line and select

Services ▹ reveal in Finder (or just to reveal)

of the menu.* contextual A Finder window should open with a selected file. Copy the file to the desktop. Bring the original (not copy) to the trash. You will be asked for your administrator password.

Restart the computer and re-create your settings in the Time Machine preferences window. Falsely, it will show that you have no backups. Don't worry; your backups have not been affected.

Perform a backup to test. The backup can take much longer than usual. If TM now works as expected, delete the file that you copied to the desktop.

    * If you do not see the item context menu copy the selected text in the Clipboard by pressing combinationcommand-C. In the Finder, select

Go ▹ go to the folder...

from the menu bar and paste it into the box that opens by pressing command + V. You won't see what you pasted a newline being included. Press return.

  • Time machine often create new backup to improve confiability

    Hi friends.

I have a MacBook Air (11 inch, early 2014), with 256 GB. My Time Machine backups run to a central unit of Seagate NAS (2 TB) mounted inside my home network wifi. Thus, every night his running and to protect me.

Two months ago I run out of space in the macbook, so I didn't uninstall some software and move some video files to my central seagate. I get about 50 Gb and macbook becomes used 190 GB space.

Then comes a message/dialog box saying he checked my backups, and improve confiability I have to start a new Time Machine backup. I run it and do as suggested. After that I do, in July 18, 2016, apple launches the version OS X 10.11.6 (15 G 31). After I installed the new os x version, it asks me again to start the backup time machine to zero. I think it was because a few new features and/or adaptation of system and made as required. Then just web browsing, mail check and some work til today worksheet. Today (August 7, 2016), he asks again create a new backup on my mac.

    Paludo,

I've never seen a message of this type.

I suggest that you do not click on anything in this message!

If you want to do something with Time Machine, select SystemPreferences-> TimeMachine and do what you want to do.

  • Time Machine: cannot find restored by email

I'm trying to restore a simple email from time machine (El Capitan).  No problem, he is, by highlighting and pressing on restore.  However, it goes immediately to the post, but I get a message saying it restores and I can't find the email anywhere restored.  I restored other files from time to time, but this is my first attempts to restore an email.

I understand that email should go in a mailbox in "on my Mac", but this mailbox isn't here.  My boy, I would be grateful for the help... Thank you.

If you do not see the recovered messages, place the cursor on the title on my Mac in the mailbox list. An element, see the or the skin will appear to the right of the header. If this is the show, click it.

According to the mailbox store how much you have, you may need to scroll the list of mailboxes upwards or downwards to see the new entry.

According to some information, you will need to restart Mail or maybe wait a bit for the database to be reindexed before it manifests. I can not confirm these reports.

  • Time Machine 'clean up older backups' takes too long

I see that Time machine for my iMac does daily backups. Recently, he completed a backup in an hour or two. Then it does «clean up older backups...» ». Unexpectedly, it takes a lot of time, up to 6 hours. Sometimes, I need to close and stop without completing the cleaning.

    Syslog says:

05/07/16 9:32:35.518 AM com.apple.backupd [207]: deleted the backup of the Volumes/time Machine Backups/Backups.backupdb/dk/2016-03-07-072332 containing 6.51 GB; Now available, 251.2 GB 529,85 GB required

05/07/16 9:32:35.537 AM com.apple.backupd [207]: removed 11 expired backups so far more space is needed - delete older backups to make room

When I run the diagnostic tool EtreCheck, he said:

    myData [network]

    Total size: 997,71 GB

    Total number of backups: 25

    An older backup: 02/08/16, 08:50

    Last backup: 29/06/16, 09:50

    Backup disk size: too small

    997,71 GB backup size < (disc 664,27 GB X 3)

The questions of the community are:

    Why cleaning taking so long?

    and

If she tries to delete older backups can just go in there (/ Volumes/Time Machine Backups/Backups.backupdb/) myself to remove older archives?

NO, stay away from the database of Time Machine. Cleaning of files may take a while, but you don't have to wait until it finishes. Just stop your Mac when you want, she can continue to clean later.

  • Can I use Time Machine for several different backups?

I have my 500 Gb HD Macintosh that saves on two external hard drives (two 500 GB), so I always have two backups! But I have another external hard drive (1 TB) with a lot of footage on it I want backe up on top of a new external drive (1 TB)! It is possible to configure Time machine to do it automatically for me, also two different backups?

TM can run a backup plan. You can include the other external drive backup on the backup TM drive or the existing disks as well as your Mac HD drive. You can save all the new 1 TB disk readers (or readers if you want to add others). 500 Gig drives are not big enough for all readers of backup too.

What you might consider is use SuperDuper or CCC to back up the other disk to the new 1 TB drive.

  • Time Machine - an exclusion different backup for the backup drives different time machine

I hope someone can help me.

For these past years, I used 2 Time Machine backups to keep all safe. I have 1 backup x who lives at home and is 3 times the size of my disk. I also have a second drive of laptop that I travel with, which is partitioned to give a little time machine backup, more than 1.5 TB of "overflow storage (for movies, video files, etc).

Recently however, I realized that my "storage of listening" actually contains a large amount of data I wouldn't lose (especially the photos of my children because they were born), so now I want to save this drive as well.

If my ideal situation is to have a huge drive I leave at home. This contains backups of the computer AND 'excess of storage' backup. It's pretty simple to implement.

But can someone tell me if my trip backup, will try also to the other partition of the backup drive? And if so, is there anyway to give different time machine backups different exclusions.

Hope that makes sense and hope that someone can help me.

    Thank you
    John

You will need to manually change the exclusions when you going on a trip. There isn't a way to change automatically.
